"A license violation has been detected" with an evaluation license

Issue A warning banner is displayed at the top of the Workstation window that states "A license violation has been detected." even though a valid evaluation license has been activated on the machine or site. The user will also find another warning message on the LicenseManager screen, under the System folder, that provides greater detail. This message will state specifically what is missing, for example "An additional X automation server license(s) are required. Please purchase the required licenses." Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment EBO Enterprise Server 2.X and newer EBO Workstation 2.x and newer Cause The new scalable licensing structure established in version 2.0 requires licenses for each automation server device (and field devices if the system is a new database). The evaluation (demo) license will account for the required licenses as long as it is valid but sometimes can be stuck in a state where it has not been validated.  Resolution In the majority of situations, simply rebooting or performing a warm start of the Enterprise Server will clear this warning as long as there is a valid evaluation (temporary) license hosted in the license administrator the ES is referencing. Troubleshooting Steps: Restart the Enterprise Server. Restart the License Server (if on a different machine as the ES). If required, restart the ES again. Check for any errors in the License Server and verify that the Vendor Daemon is up and running. See Unable to log into WorkStation due to license error codes -12, -15, -18 or -97 for more details around this troubleshooting step. If these steps have not resolved the issue, then open a support case with your local country support organization.  For more information about the enforcement of licenses see the EcoStruxure Building Management WebHelp article, Licensing Enforcement.

TC300 Modbus bias, termination and number of devices

Issue What is the unit load of a TC300 thermostat and what are the bias and termination requirements when used with a SmartX Server. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, Field Devices Environment TC303-3A2LM TC303-3A4LM TC303-3A2DLMS TC303-3A4DLMS SmartX Server Cause Documentation does not state the RS-485 transceiver type for the TC300 range, making it unclear how many devices can exist under a SmartX servers RS-485 serial port ComA or ComB. Resolution The answers to the transceiver interface attributes below can be applied with to the Worksheet for Configuration of RS-485 Bus with generic RS-485 devices on Webhelp Q1 Failsafe Receiver The TC300 does not use an RS-485 transceiver with an integrated idle-state failsafe receiver. Q2 Data Transmission Speed TC300 thermostats manufactured from November 2018 onward can be configured to communicate at 9600 or 4800 bps. TC-300 thermostats manufactured before this date can only communicate at 4800 bps. Q4 Isolated Interface The TC300 does not provide an isolated RS-485 interface. Q6a Measured Resistance With no electrical connections to the TC300, the measured resistance between the RS-485 low-side (-) signal and the communications common is 10K ohms. Based on this the unit load of the TC300 is 1.2 (12.000/10,000) Bias requirements and number of devices If the length of the RS-485 bus is less than 150M (500ft) then Generic RS-485 Device Configuration 3 from Webhelp can be applied. Using this configuration the recommended 3300 bias resistors present a unit load of 3.6 (12,000 / 3,300). The SmartX server adds 0.5UL. The remaining node budget is calculated as: 32 - 3.6 - 0.5 = 27.9UL. Since the TC300 has a unit load of 1.2 the maximum number of devices that can be placed under each comm port using this configuration is 27.9 / 1.2 = 23.25 If the length of the RS-485 bus is greater than 150M (500ft) then Generic RS-485 Device Configuration 7 from Webhelp can be applied. Using this configuration the dual end-point bias configuration presents a unit load of 24UL (12,000 / (1,000 / 2) = 24). The SmartX server adds 0.5UL. The remaining node budget is calculated as: 32 - 24 - 0.5 = 7.5UL. Since the TC300 has a unit load of 1.2 the maximum number of devices that can be placed under each comm port using this configuration is 7.5 / 1.2 = 6.25 Also check out the SmartStruxure-RS485-Controller Unit Load Quick-Help video on the Exchange.  h

Unwanted 'Pan and Zoom' on TGML Graphics when using Webstation

Issue When editing an EBO graphic in Webstation rather than Workstation, there is an inherent feature which allows a user to zoom in and out of the graphic using the mouse scroll. They can also pan around the page by holding down the left mouse button as they move. In many cases however, this feature is not wanted and makes the graphic more difficult to use. Image Zoomed Out  Image Zoomed In and Panned Right Product Line Building Operation Webstation Environment Graphics Cause Pan and Zoom in Webstation are features that are enabled by default in all TGML Graphics Resolution Edit the graphic object and select the top TGML root of the page properties. There is a 'Disable Pan and Zoom' option which by default is set to False.  Setting this option to True and then saving turns off the Pan and Zoom functions for that graphic

BACnet Interface polling interval settings and usage

Issue How are the 'Advanced Polling Configuration' settings under the BACnet interface to be used? Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Enterprise Server (ES) Automation Server (AS) Cause These settings can be used to reduce traffic on the BACnet networks that can overload both the EBO server as well as the devices being polled. Resolution The settings are used to specify an amount of time (in milliseconds) that the server should wait after completing a polling cycle on the applicable BACnet network before starting the next cycle. A polling cycle is the set of point being polled on a particular network interface. For example, lets assume that the Minimum polling interval for MSTPA network has been set to 1000 ms, if you are polling 30 points on MSTP port A then the BACnet plug in will do synchronous ReadProperty requests to poll each of the 30 points one at a time. Once the 30 points are polled, (one polling cycle) the BACnet plug-in will delay 1000ms before polling the 30 points again. (next polling cycle) NOTE: The settings apply to polling ONLY and do not affect communications done via change of value (COV) To find a proper value to use, it is recommended that you start with 1000 ms and then adjust the value up or down based on polling performance. If the polled values update fast enough, increase the minimum polling interval to reduce CPU usage. If the polled values become too sluggish, reduce the minimum polling interval until performance returns to satisfactory levels. It may take some trial and error to find the optimum balance.

Preparing and importing a signed CA certificate

Issue There is no information on how to create and prepare signed certificates for import in Building Operation. PEM file format has to be used. If another format is used or the certificate files are not correct, you get a message like this when importing SAXParseException: Reference to invalid character number in line X column Y Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Certificates Cause There is no information on how to create signed certificates in Building Operation. Resolution Make sure that when preparing the pfx file that the full chain of trust is included in the pfx file. You have various options when preparing a pfx certificate export file, and the private keys and chain of trust are options that must be selected. Otherwise, you won't extract the intermediate certificate or the private key if not included. Complete a Certificate Request and then request a certificate in PEM format in a .pfx file "container".  Extract the CA certificate, Intermediate certificate, and private key using the following OpenSSL commands. After executing each command, enter the password if prompted. Make sure you reference the right pfx file. Below filename.pfx is used as an example Make sure you enter the commands manually and do not copy/paste from this article Download OpenSSL tool here or use OpenSSL installed with EBO  openssl pkcs12 -in filename.pfx -out host.pem -nodes -clcerts -nokeys openssl pkcs12 -in filename.pfx -out inter.pem -nodes -cacerts -nokeys openssl pkcs12 -in filename.pfx -out privkey.prv -nodes -nocerts The three files produced must then be parsed of any characters that aren't in the part of the certificate/key and in PEM format (or PRV if private key) - basically all the characters before "-----Begin Certificate-----" or after "-----End Certificate-----". Ensure each file ends with a blank line and that a blank line separates each section. This can be done in any text editor; however, this example uses Notepad++ with the "Show All Characters" button selected.  Import the files into SBO using the certificate manager in the Control panel. File type conversion If the host and intermediate certificate are in crt, cer or der format, you can convert them to pem format using the following method/command: openssl x509 -outform der -in certificate.cer -out certificate.der openssl x509 -inform der -in certificate.der -out certificate.pem Replace "certificate.cer" with the name of your file Determining certificate file type To determine which filetype a given certificate file has (PEM, DER, or pkcs12/pfx), you can use the following commands (replace "cert.crt" with the name of your file). A valid output will confirm the file type. PEM openssl x509 -in cert.crt -text DER openssl x509 -in cert.crt -inform DER -text pkcs12/pfx openssl pkcs12 -in cert.crt -info

Differences between EcoStruxure Energy Expert and EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert

Issue There can be confusion on the differences between EcoStruxure Energy Expert (formerly Power Manager) and EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert (PME)  Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, Other Environment EcoStruxure Building Operation  EcoStruxure Energy Expert (formerly Power Manager) EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert Cause Power Monitoring Expert (PME) is a long-established product in the Schneider Power (EMS) offer and so its place in the market is well known and its support path is very clear. Energy Expert is a much newer offering that intentionally sits nearer to EcoStruxure Building Operation (EBO) in the BMS community, while still remaining an EMS product and so its place in the market and support path is more easily confused. Resolution Definitions   EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert (PME) Schneider Electric's supervisory software dedicated to power monitoring that enables you to maximize operational efficiency, optimize your power distribution system, and improve bottom-line performance   EcoStruxure Building Operation (EBO)  Schneider Electric's premier building management system (BMS) providing integrated monitoring, control, and management of energy, lighting, HVAC, and fire safety.   EcoStruxure Energy Expert (EE)                                                    Designed to offer Power Monitoring Expert (PME) features to new and existing EcoStruxure Building Operation (EBO) projects, giving extra capabilities to manage power utilization in a BMS environment.   It utilizes EcoStruxure Web Services (EWS) to be able it to share data between the two EcoStruxure software platforms. (EBO and EE) and applications such as the ETL Tool and the Integration Utility in the integration process.   EcoStruxure Web Services (EWS) The Schneider Electric standard for sharing data among various Schneider software platforms to facilitate the creation of EcoStruxure Solutions. Based on conventional Web Services technology (SOAP, WSDL)   ETL Tool The function of the ETL is to extract select historical data (Trend logs) from EBO, and load that data into the Energy Expert SQL database for use in Dashboard and Reports etc.   Integration Utility The function of the Integration Utility is to export Energy Expert Dashboards, Reports and Alarms for import into EBO to enhance its Power Offer to the customer   Product Support Path: PME, Energy Expert, ETL and the Integration Utility are are all fundamentally Power Products and so should always be raised through your local Product Support Team (via your Customer Care Center (CCC)) under an EMS commercial reference. However in cases where an Energy Expert project needs specific assistance with the EBO side of the integration then a BMS commercial reference should be used instead.

Variable Status Alarms do not operate on a BACnet point.

Issue If a Variable status alarm is setup on a BACnet point it never triggers. Environment Workstation V1.8.1  and earlier Cause The reason is that the 3 available triggers (Forced, Overridden and Offline) do not apply to the BACnet protocol. If you open up the bindings page for a BACnet point you will see that none of the BACnet point attributes are the same as these 3 trigger statuses. Resolution Although from the SBO side you can force a point, what actually happens is that the value becomes commanded at "Command priority 8" (by default). The BACnet protocol does not have a Forced attribute. There is also no attribute listed for Overridden and Offline point in the BACnet standard. Because of this the Variable Status Alarm does not apply to a BACnet point.

Transferring Security Expert licenses from one PC to another

Issue Can licenses be transferred in Security Expert? Product Line EcoStruxure Security Expert Environment Security Expert Cause Unsure if a single SSN can be authenticated on multiple PC's or if licenses can be transferred or moved. Resolution Each PC requires a separate SSN. These licenses can be transferred between PC's. As part of the licensing process, the hardware details of the computer are recorded against each SSN, so any hardware changes require re-licensing, this also means SSNs cannot be shared across computers, and if used on a virtual machine – it must be assigned a static MAC address. Licenses can be transferred between machines without issue, Product Support will add a registration onto the license and clear the hardware profile after receiving a request. The installer will then do a License Update from the Security Expert server.

Issue Users may want to know how to perform the online activation of an embedded license  Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Automation Server Premium (AS-P) Building Operation Automation Server Bundled (AS-B) Cause From Building Operation 2022, the Automation Server (Classic/Secure boot AS-B or AS-P) and features like Smart Drivers, SNMP notifications, Personalized dashboards, TimescaleDB, MQTT Publish/Subscribe, Modbus, Serial MS/TP, ES Connection, Server I/O, Field Devices, SAML Authentication, Zoning, and BACnet IP require a license. Customers need to know how to activate their embedded licenses to enable these features. Resolution This video will demonstrate how to Find the list of supported features by each activation ID. Activate an embedded license on an Automation Server Verify the embedded license status via the Device Administrator, Workstation, and the Flexnet operation license portal. Notes Check each activation ID's supported features using the part number or license description through the Features and Licensed Products Table.  The Flexnet operation license portal is a public FlexNet Login (flexnetoperations.com) accessible from anywhere with an Internet connection.  The Automation Server and the PC running the Device Administrator must have outbound connectivity to the license activation server over the Internet. Check the resolution section of this article Could not establish contact with License Server using SmartX Server - Communities to verify if the Automation Server has access to the Flexnet license activation server. For troubleshooting, refer to Embedded license activation fails. Web helps:  Assigning Licenses and Activating Licenses Online. An Embedded DEMO license is available for temporary use during project engineering and installation until you know each device's specific licensing needs. Please visit How to activate a demo license on an Automation Server at EBO 2022. If the Automation Server does not have access to the Flexnet license activation server (no Internet connection), you can perform the steps in the following article Offline activation of embedded licenses.  Please take note that starting from Building Operation 2023 version 5.0.3 and higher, Automation Servers are no longer required to be connected to the Internet. The Device Administrator can access the internet and manage communication and license activation for the 'offline' Automation Servers.   A shorter version of the Online Activation of Embedded Licenses for Automation Servers-Digital Job Book (nampss.com). is available on the NAM PSS site. (Note: Registration for access to this site may be required.)

Web Service addition Simple XML Web Service

Issue How to add Web Service and create Simple XML Web Service with Graphic Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment StruxureWare Building Operation site with release 1.2 or later Cause What are Web Services and how to add to my existing StruxureWare Building Operation site. How to add XML files and how to add to a project or site How to create values from the XML Files added How to make a graphic that uses the values from XML Service Resolution Wikipedia: A Web Service is a method of communication between two electronic devices over the web (internet). W3C: A "Web Service" as "a software system designed to support interoperable machine-to-machine interaction over a network." Web Services: Are hardware, programming language, and operating system independent Applications written in different programming languages and running on different platforms can seamlessly exchange data over intranet or the internet using Web Services Web Service interfaces are supported in both the AS and ES(does not support connection over a ProxyServer) Like BACnet, Lon, and Modbus, you can create a Web Service interface. EWS Interface - EcoStruxure Web Services Script Web Service - Generic Consume via Script (Web Service addition Script Web Service) Simple XML Web Service - Rest Generic Consume via Binding Tool SOAP Web Service - SOAP Generic Consume via Binding Tool (Web Service addition SOAP Web Service) This article explains adding Weather for a particular location data using Simple XML: Select New > Interface > Web Service > Simple XML Specify the URL for this data (to find the weather for your area, Google XML data Make changes to polling, alarm, retry interval Choose Create Now you can Create a value from that Simple XML Web Service by highlighting and select New > Value > and type of value. Select Analog for temperature, String Value for wind direction and so forth. One can add as many of the values as desired. The Simple XML List View would look like the below screen capture. MP-V/RP-V Air Flow reading 0 CFM

Issue MP-V Air Flow is reading zero flow despite the Velocity Pressure having a positive value. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment MP-V-7A, MP-V-9A, RP-V-4A, RP-V-5A Variable Air Volume Data Cause The Air Flow value is an internally calculated value based on the Velocity Pressure. There are a number of values involved in that calculation that could result in no flow. Resolution Validate Variable Air Volume Data > Flow Balance Data > Rated box flow. The rated box flow defaults to 0 ft³/min in a new controller and must be replaced with the rated flow at 1.0inH₂O (provided by the box manufacturer). Compare Variable Air Volume Data > Velocity Pressure > Value to the Zero flow threshold. Any Velocity Pressure below the threshold will result in no flow. This threshold defaults to 0.008inH₂O. Check Variable Air Volume Data > Properties > Balanced k-factor and Balanced flow correction factor. If either of these values are at 0, there will be no flow. These values cannot be directly written to and are only the result of a flow balance calculation. To get them to update: Go to Variable Air Volume Data > Flow Balance Data and record all balancing data (you will need to manually re-enter it later). Set all 7 balancing values to 0 - Rated box flow, Box/Hood measured maximum/intermediate/minimum Right-click on Variable Air Volume Data and Download Re-enter the valid balancing data. The balanced k-factor should now show a value close to the rated box flow and the balanced flow correction factor should show a multiplier ideally between 0.5 and 2. If the box has not been balanced and no valid balancing data is available, leave the minimum flow readings at 0 and enter the same value into both the hood and box maximums (for example, 1000 and 1000). This will result in a balanced k-factor equal to the rated box flow and a balanced flow correction factor of 1.
