Download an .MOT file into a Xenta Programmable controller

Issue Instructions on how to download an .MOT file into a Xenta Programmable controller Product Line TAC Vista, EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Xenta Programmable Controllers Xenta 280, 281, 282, 283, 300, 301, 302, 401, 401:B Download Wizard Cause To reinstall or upgrade the firmware of a Xenta programmable controller, a .MOT file must be loaded using the Download Wizard. Resolution Get the latest (or desired) .MOT version onto the PC's hard drive. Download the appropriate .MOT for the controller requiring new firmware. To find the version of firmware in a controller, see How to view the current firmware version on a Xenta controller using the RS-232 cable. Go to the The Exchange Download Center and view the MOT files Locate the proper version and controller combination in the asset title. Download the desired .MOT version   Download the .MOT file into the controller Start the Download Wizard. Note: The download wizard is installed when Menta or EcoStruxure Building Operation Workstation is installed on the machine. Start > Programs > Schneider Electric > TAC Tools X.X.X > Download Wizard (For versions prior to 5.1.4, the path will be "TAC" instead of "Schneider Electric.") Follow instructions on the Download Wizard. System Choose to Retain Current .MOT or Download new.  Typically the choice will be to download a new .MOT. Ensure the device type is correct and matches the controller and .MOT file. Browse to the .MOT file downloaded from the Buildings Business Extranet. Application Choose to Retain Current, Clear memory, or Download New.  Typically the choice will be to clear memory. This is referring to the Menta application inside the controller.  If the application is cleared, the controller will be "applicationless" and cannot be downloaded through the Vista System Plug-in.  Some Menta application will need to be loaded through a Menta direct download before the controller can function again in a network. If you choose to load a Menta application through the Download Wizard, browse to the desired .MTA file.  Configuration If the application is set to clear memory, the configuration section will be grayed out.  No selections are necessary. This refers to the network description files.  The typical selection if the option is available is to retain current. Press Apply Download status is shown in % finished.  Do not interrupt this process! When the dialog states that the download has completed, close Download Wizard.  Load a Menta application if necessary through Menta direct download. For more information on Menta Cable needed to download, see Schematic for the RS-232 cable used to direct download Menta applications and system files.

StruxureWare Building Operation LNS plug-in support

Issue LNS plug-ins are needed in order to configure certain application specific controllers. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Workstation Open LNS Server Cause Many application specific controllers can be configured through Workstation but this can be very time consuming. Starting with Version 1.4.0, SmartStruxure is now able to support LNS plug-ins. Key points and features Click SBO v1.4 Activation Key for OpenLNS Server - SmartStruxure solution - PA-00285 to download the StruxureWare Building Operation v1.4 - Activation key for OpenLNS Server product announcement. Echelon OpenLNS Server must be installed on the computer that plug-ins will be used. LNS Server plug-ins can be used at the workstation to configure TAC Xenta devices using TAC STR 350 plug-in 5.1.9 or later. (earlier versions won't work) LNS Server plug-ins can be used at the workstation to configure TAC Xenta devices using TAC 100 plug-in 5.1.9 or later. (earlier versions won't work) LNS Server plug-ins can be used at the workstation to configure third party LON devices. The LNS plug-in capability will only work if the device does not require to be online to configure. If the manufacturer's plug-in requires active communication with the device then the plug-in implementation will not work. StruxureWare Building Operation database is automatically updated to any changes created with the plug-in. Resolution For LNS plug-ins to work in SmartStruxure, Echelon OpenLNS Server must be purchased and installed on the computer where plug-ins will be used. Purchasing Echelon OpenLNS Server An activation key must be purchased in order to install Echelon OpenLNS Server. The activation key is available to purchase through Schneider Electric using the part number SXWSWLNSX00001. The activation key can be purchased through standard product ordering procedures. After ordering, the activation key will be sent to you via email within a few days. Installing Echelon OpenLNS Server WARNING: You can not install OpenLNS Server on the same computer as TurboLNS without upgrading Turbo to Open. You will now be converting any TurboLNS databases to OpenLNS if they are opened on this computer. Once you have purchased the OpenLNS activation key and received it via email from Schneider Electric then you can now install Echelon OpenLNS. Double click on the executable to start the OpenLNS install wizard. Click Next. Select 'I accept the terms in the license agreement' and click Next. Fill out the information and enter you activation key. Click Next. Click Install. Click Next. Click Finish. NOTE - At step 7 above, if the PC is not connected to the internet, the registration may require an email to be send manually to Echelon to register the licence code.  Uninstalling Echelon OpenLNS Server Make sure you reference the OpenLNS Server License Guide here for information on how to return the OpenLNS license in order to use it again.   Registering LNS Plug-ins Note: Before registering LNS plug-ins, they must be installed on the computer first. If working with TAC Vista Xenta 100 and TAC STR 350 controllers, the plug-ins must be version 5.1.9 or greater. ZBuilder is included in the TAC Vista 100 download. These can be downloaded off of the Extranet in the same place as the SmartStruxure software. See LNS plugins for SmartStruxure 1.4 are not included in the release, but downloaded separately for more information. In SmartStruxure Workstation, go to the Control Panel. Click on 'LNS Plug-in Registration'. In the 'Available LNS Plug-ins' field, select the plug-ins you want to register and then click the right arrow to move to the 'Registered LNS Plug-ins" field. Click the save icon on the System tab. Note: If registering the TAC Xenta 100 plug-in, you will be prompted to select the devices you want to register. Then click OK.   Using the LNS Plug-ins Note: All changes made in the LNS plug-ins are offline configuration changes. The LNS plug-in support in SmartStruxure will not support devices that are required to be online for plug-in use.  Right click on the controller, click Configure... The LNS server is checked for a matching device template and the current device configuration is saved to the LNS server. Click Next. Double click on the plug-in listed in the window. This will launch the LNS plug-in. Make configuration changes to the controller and then save or exit the plug-in. Click Next. Click Next. The configuration changes that have been made will be listed in the window while they are being saved to the LNS server. Click Finish. Now the configuration changes that were made in the LNS server need to be downloaded to the controller. Right click on the controller in Workstation and select 'Download device configuration'.

The difference between getTarget() and getCurrentTarget() in TGML Scripting

Issue Every item shown in the Objects window of the TGML editor can be considered a Node. In the figure shown below, this relatively simple TGML page has 14 nodes. Nodes are hierarchical with parent and children nodes. One important concept when scripting in TGML is finding the desired node. Examples of this are: Changing the color of a rectangle when a bound signal is offline Writing a new value to a text box every time the database value updates Opening a new page when the user left clicks on a component Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, TAC Vista Environment StruxureWare Building Operation TAC Vista TGML Graphics Editor Cause Within a script, there are two functions that will pinpoint a specific node, but have very different applications. These are: getTarget() getCurrentTarget() An example function of how to use these functions is: function click(evt){ target = evt.getTarget(); } Resolution getTarget() - returns where an event is coming from getCurrentTarget() - returns the parent of the script Both examples below chart the differences between the two functions using the screen capture below. If the bind object in the figure above changes its value, here is what getTarget() and getCurrentTarget() would each return if they were a part of each script (A, B, C). Script getTarget() getCurrentTarget() A Bind Component B Bind Rectangle C Bind Bind If the user clicks on the rectangle in the figure above, here is what getTarget() and getCurrentTarget() would each return if they were a part of each script (A, B, C). License troubleshooting in Vista 5.1.8 or greater

Issue Cannot open the FlexNet License Admin, the TAC license server is not running as a service, or the vendor daemon is down. Product Line TAC Vista Environment Vista LMAdmin FlexNet License Administrator Cause If the TAC Vista Server installation option "Use the local TAC License Server" is not selected during installation, the license server will be installed but not successfully configured. When the license server is not running it will prevent the LMAdmin web interface from launching. If the license file is not in the correct location when the license server is started, then the vendor daemon must be started manually. For general information on the new license system, see LMTools Licensing Administrator program is replaced with LMAdmin in Vista 5.1.8 or greater. Resolution Remember that a valid and un-modified License File is necessary for the following troubleshooting steps to work. If the License file was manually manipulated in any way, please revert to a File specifically licensed for the machine where the License Server resides. Before proceeding, make sure the setup of the license system is made correctly following No license after reboot when TAC Vista Server (TACOS) runs as a service Check out this video about the new Vista 5 licensing system on the Community website. Check out the TAC License Server Setting tool below for the new license system. Click here to download the zip file.       Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name This is a bug in the lmadmin.exe file. Either replace the lmadmin.exe file with the newest available or install the newest version of the license system available. You can have a newer version of the license system installed than the TAC Vista version installed. E.g. TAC Vista 5.1.8 will work together with a license server version 5.1.9 Cannot Open the Flexnet License Admin Ensure that the TACLicenseServer is running as a service. Right Click on the Computer icon on the desktop and click on manage. In the system tree on the left, go to Services and Applications > Services. Scroll down and select TACLicenseServer. Click Start in the top left corner of the window. Make sure that the site license is the only file in the license server path. If there is a demo license in the file path when trying to start the license server, it will fail to start. Sometimes you will get the following Windows error. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly. Note: TAC License Server with spaces is not the correct license server. If TACLicenseServer is not found in the list then move on to the next troubleshooting section titled "Setting up the TAC License Server as a Service".   If the TAC License Server will not start then it may be due to another program using the 8080 TCP port. Use TCPView to search for programs running on local port 8080 and either stop this program or use the TACLicenseServer Settings tool at the top of this page to change the port that the TAC License Server uses. If the TACLicenseServer still does not run then continue to the next section below, Setting up the TAC License Server as a Service.    Setting up the TAC License Server as a Service LMAdmin.exe must be registered as a service. When first installing Vista the option "Use the local TAC License Server" should be selected. When this option is selected it will install the license server, register it as a service and start it. When "Use a license file" is selected it will only install the license server without configuring its settings. This can be corrected by reinstalling Vista and making the proper selection or by a manual configuration procedure. The manual procedure steps are listed below. Note: The option "Use a license file" only applies to a demo license, not a site license file. Manual Procedure to Register the License Server as a Service Start a command prompt as an administrator. To do this go to Start > All Programs >  Accessories and right-click on Command Prompt, then select Run as Administrator. In the command prompt go to path C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\License Server\ (This can be done by entering "cd" and then the directory path listed here.) For 64-bit OS go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\License Server\" Run the command: "LMAdmin.exe -InstallService TACLicenseServer".   Manually copy the license files that are to be used to the new license file folder location. 32 bit - C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\License Server\taclic\licenses 64 bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\License Server\taclic\licenses   In the command prompt type, the following command to start the license server "net start TACLicenseServer". Note: If the license files are not copied prior to starting the license server, the vendor daemon will not be started successfully and must be manually started after the license files have been copied to the new license file location. For instruction on how to do this, follow the steps in the next section Vendor Daemon is Down When the license server is installed but not configured, as mentioned above, the TAC Vista Server installer will not create a shortcut to the license administration tool in the start menu; since the shortcut will not work. A shortcut is created in the installation folder and can be used to create a shortcut in the start menu manually. The shortcut can be found here "C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\License Server\FlexNetLicenseAdmin". For 64-bit OS the shortcut is found in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\License Server". Vendor Daemon is Down   Note: If working on a 64 bit PC, replace "Program Files" with "Program Files (x86)" in the file paths below. Go to All Programs > Schneider Electric > TAC Tool 5.X.X > Flexnet License Admin. Click on Administration in the top right corner of the screen and login with admin/admin (If logging in for the first time it will prompt you to change the password). Click on the Vendor Daemon Configuration tab and then select the taclic daemon. Verify that the path in the License File or Directory field matches the location of the site license. The first half of the file path is C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\License Server\ followed by what is in the License File or Directory field. Verify that the taclic.exe is located in the path found in the Vendor Daemon Location field. The first half of the file path is C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\License Server\ followed by what is in the Vendor Daemon Location field. If changes were made then click Save and then Start. If the Vendor Daemon still does not start after checking the file paths, verify that the site license has been hosted to the correct MAC address. For help finding the MAC address, see How to locate a computer's MAC address. NOTE: Also make sure there are no other Flexnet License Servers installed on this same machine (SmartStruxure, Power Manager, etc). If there is another license server running on the same machine then this can cause a conflict. SmartStruxure license and TAC Vista license on the same PC can walk you through merging them together. If IPV6 is enabled, you may need to disable it and reboot the machine. Switching from a site license to a demo license Log into LMadmin and stop the license server Save the Demo License file in C:/Program Files/Schneider Electric/License Server/Licenses Open the desired engineering tool and point Vista to the Demo file When finished, log into LMAdmin and start the License Server.  This will tell Vista to continue using the site license. A site that has worked with the installation from a remote desktop or the different user logged in Open task manager Check for process "lmgrd" of 2 of them are running the FlexNet server might try to read from the wrong server. Shutdown down both processes and restart the FlexNet server Log in to FlexNet admin and start the vendor Reread the license file Also, check License Administrator error "EXITING DUE TO SIGNAL 28 Exit reason 5"

"A license violation has been detected" with an evaluation license

Issue A warning banner is displayed at the top of the Workstation window that states "A license violation has been detected." even though a valid evaluation license has been activated on the machine or site. The user will also find another warning message on the LicenseManager screen, under the System folder, that provides greater detail. This message will state specifically what is missing, for example "An additional X automation server license(s) are required. Please purchase the required licenses." Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment EBO Enterprise Server 2.X and newer EBO Workstation 2.x and newer Cause The new scalable licensing structure established in version 2.0 requires licenses for each automation server device (and field devices if the system is a new database). The evaluation (demo) license will account for the required licenses as long as it is valid but sometimes can be stuck in a state where it has not been validated.  Resolution In the majority of situations, simply rebooting or performing a warm start of the Enterprise Server will clear this warning as long as there is a valid evaluation (temporary) license hosted in the license administrator the ES is referencing. Troubleshooting Steps: Restart the Enterprise Server. Restart the License Server (if on a different machine as the ES). If required, restart the ES again. Check for any errors in the License Server and verify that the Vendor Daemon is up and running. See Unable to log into WorkStation due to license error codes -12, -15, -18 or -97 for more details around this troubleshooting step. If these steps have not resolved the issue, then open a support case with your local country support organization.  For more information about the enforcement of licenses see the EcoStruxure Building Management WebHelp article, Licensing Enforcement.

Change the firmware version in a Continuum controller

Issue How to change the firmware version in a controller. Product Line Andover Continuum Environment All flash-upgradeable controllers: CX9900, CX9940, ACX5720, ACX5740, all i2, b3, and bCX controllers.  Cause Controller firmware needs to be changed. Resolution Locate the firmware version that you need for each controller you want to change. The Continuum firmware files can be downloaded from the Schneider Electric Ecobuilding Exchange. The downloaded files are often a zip file which includes the release notes in PDF format and the flash file (UPD file). Note: You may need to upgrade or downgrade firmware (see also Is a controller shipped from the factory with the latest firmware revision supported in older versions of Continuum?) Make sure you check the document Andover Continuum Software and Firmware Compatibility Matrix for the appropriate firmware version for your system.   Copy the file to a disk drive accessible to your CyberStation workstation. Edit the controller object in ContinuumExplorer and click on the "Update OS" button. Browse to the file location in step 2 and click "Open". A progress box "Updating Controller OS..." will appear. During this time the controller is reset and not functional.  Once complete, and if successful, you will get  a dialog box indicating that the upload was successful and the controller will return On-Line momentarily. Click OK. Click the refresh button in the controller editor. Once the controller is on-line the version field should indicate the new version. At this point some controllers may need a reload, others will be reloaded from flash memory. This depends on the controller type. For example, the CX9900 has no flash memory and therefore will need to be reloaded. This procedure also applies to upgrading controller options such as adding Xdriver support. In this case a UPD file will be provided by the Repair Dept. In the case of added Xdriver support, after doing the Update OS procedure the version will not change. Look at the controller Options tab after it comes back online following the upgrade. The information here, such as a non-zero entry in the numbers next to the appropriate Xdriver Commport will be changed. The above procedure was based on an IP level controller such as the CX, bCX and ACX II. Infinet and MSTP controllers are done in a similar manner. IOU models are also upgraded similarly via the "Update IOU" button in the IOUModule editor. However, the files are .IOU files instead of .UPD files and the versions are in the fourth pair of characters in the Program ID field.

"This Connection is Untrusted" certificate error when logging in to a Xenta Server using Firefox

Issue When logging into the web server of a Xenta controller using Mozilla Firefox 4 an error message is shown stating that the website is using an invalid security certificate.  When logging into Xenta server using Firefox 4 a certificate error is displayed as displayed below: The complete error screen reads as follows: This Connection is Untrusted You have asked Firefox to connect securely to 192.168.1.152, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure. Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do? If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue. Get me out of here! Technical Details (IP Address of Xenta) uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed. The certificate is only valid for (IP Address of Xenta) (Error code: sec_error_ca_cert_invalid) I Understand the Risks If you understand what's going on, you can tell Firefox to start trusting this site's identification. Even if you trust the site, this error could mean that someone is tampering with your connection. Don't add an exception unless you know there's a good reason why this site doesn't use trusted identification. Add Exception... How to install a self signed certificate. Product Line Satchwell MicroNet, TAC INET, TAC Vista Environment Mozilla Firefox 4 Xenta 511, Xenta 527, Xenta 555, Xenta 701, Xenta 711, Xenta 721, Xenta 731, Xenta 913 SSL Cause The default certificate in the Xenta web server is a self-signed certificate. Since the certificate is not issued by a recognized Certificate Authority the web browser (in this case Firefox 4) cannot validate the authenticity of the certificate and suggests that the user not continue to the website each time the user tries to access it. Resolution There are two possible resolutions: Install the self-signed certificate using the following steps: Expand the "I Understand the Risks" bullet then click the "Add Exception" button. Firefox will automatically retrieve the certificate from the Xenta server. Make sure to check "Permanently store this exception" and then click "Confirm Security Exception" The certificate is now installed and the warning screen will no longer show up when logging into the server. It may be necessary to restart Firefox for the changes to take effect. Note: The certificate will need to be installed in each client computer that accesses the Xenta server but once this complete it does not need to be done again. The exception to this is if the web address of the Xenta server is changed or if Firefox is uninstalled then reinstalled. Update: Starting in September 2014, all major browsers will be disabling 1024-bit roots within their trusted roots stores. Any SSL certificates chained to a 1024-bit root will no longer work on any browsers that takes this action or one that relies on another's root store (the self-signed certificate is 1024-bit). This means that you will still get the security warning even if you have installed the self-signed certificate. Purchase a certificate issued by a Certificate Authority (CA): These certificates are pre-installed into the web browser and will automatically prevent certificate errors from occurring on all client computers that access the web server. Note that these can be quite expensive and unless the Xenta web server is being hosted on the internet they are not necessary. Please see TAC Xenta Server - TAC Networks - Technical Manual for more information. See "There is a problem with this website's security certificate." when logging in to Xenta web server using Internet Explorer 8 for information on installing certificates into Internet Explorer.

Problems installing Continuum

Issue Problems installing Continuum Continuum will not install correctly SQL Express will not install correctly Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Continuum Cause Cyberstation fails to install or run correctly Resolution Continuum Cyberstation can normally be installed very quickly (usually less than half an hour) on a normal windows installation that fits within the Software and Firmware compatibility matrix for older versions of I/NET, Vista, Andover Continuum, Satchwell Sigma, I/A Series, and StruxureWare Building Operation, this would include SQL for a stand alone (Single User) installation. The Continuum Cyberstation uses many Windows components and services, and runs many executable files and batch files within its normal operation. We do not have a published list of services that Continuum requires to run since requirements vary depending on the site configuration. We obviously use Active Directory and .NET, RPC, MSMQ, SMNP, and all DCE services. SQL Server Management Studio Express is a free down from Microsoft and is an excellent tool for checking the SQL install Up to v1.94sp1 SQL2005 https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssms/download-sql-server-management-studio-ssms?view=sql-server-2017 v2.0 and beyond SQL2012 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35579 There are a few items that can interfere with the smooth installation or running of a Continuum Cyberstation Ensure the workstation PC is within the Software and Firmware compatibility matrix for older versions of I/NET, Vista, Andover Continuum, Satchwell Sigma, I/A Series, and StruxureWare Building Operation for the version being installed, especially Windows service packs and .NET framework versions. Ensure the minimum requirement for the workstation PC, is observed, as stated in the Cyberstation installation guide. Ensure the recommended requirement is observed, if the Cyberstation will be used for video or other more intense operations.  Local administrator accounts are required for some version of installation with passwords set. See How to create a local administrator log on in Windows. Automatic updates. See the individual installation guides, however, it is normally wise or even mandatory (depending on Continuum version) to leave them off, as updates include service packs and .NET framework updates that would take the installation off the Compatibility Matrix and could compromise the installation. There have also been other updates that have caused issues. See 5 below. MSXML6 Update SQL Express install fails on MSXML 6 Firewall & Anti virus issues. These should be disabled during installation. Issues with starting Continuum after new installation (Anti-Virus and Firewalls) Error when starting Continuum 1.9: Cannot find acc video recording service Access denied errors when installing Continuum or Webclient Crash of ACCDataServices on start up or running Continuum Another example of antivirus interfering with Continuum install is getting Microsoft Visual V++ error when opening a pin point graphic, when the install is completed with AV "webRoot" enabled.  SQL2005 Express (1.82SA onwards) When creating the sa password ensure the password is tested in notepad before typing in Database Initialisation, as if the keyboard is not set up correctly, you may be using an illegal character (eg " rather than @, in this case you will need to uninstall SQL, before re-installing via Database Initialisation) Custom Windows Images - Some Windows Images installed on new PCs include modifications that interfere with the Cyberstation installation, always use a clean MS Windows if possible, as this avoid such issues. HP Protect Tools - MFC error on Continuum startup or Continuum won't start on HP PC IT tampered Windows & domains. It is important to install Continuum with local Administrator rights as item 3, above, beware of PCs locked down by IT departments, the installation can be slow and difficult Error 1001, windows event log full. Error 1001 when installing Cyberstation or Webclient Problems with MSMQ (MicroSoft Message Queue) can cause install problems MSMQ errors and Continuum fails to start MSMQ error starting Continuum. "There appears to be a problem with the configuration of this system. Please check to make sure that you have correctly installed MSMQ." MSMQ error message: "Appears to be a problem with configuration of system please check to make sure you have MSMQ correctly installed" Trying to install CyberStation 1.9x.  It completes but then pops up 6 errors saying "Access denied" "Access Denied" messages during a CyberStation 1.9x installation Microsoft Update issues see Windows updates and Continuum Continuum Version 1.93 Fails to install. IssueReceive AccDataservice errors on startup. Continuum Version 1.93 Fails to install For Windows 7 installs see Disabling administrator rights messages in Windows 7 OS and above (Also known as UAC / User Account Control) If you see a Continuum install Error -  "Error, unable to open documentation list \misc\doclist.txt" then you are running the incorrect "setup.exe", you should install using the one in the Cyberstation root directory, not the one in the Continuum sub-directory. It has be found that Microsoft "Strong" passwords are required not only for the SQL sa password but also for Andover97 password, see Password requirements for Andover97 SQL Login for details For a v1.82 Stand Alone and beyond, if the install admin user has no password, it has been seen that the tasks (CS_Minute, CS_Distn and CS_hrly) are not always created, see Getting AccDataServices error with AlmUtil.dll error when closing Continuum If a Continuum re-install, on a LAN CyberStation is required (were some part or program has broken) then uninstall Continuum, then re-install. A workstation initialization may be required. Deleting the Continuum directory and clearing out Continuum from the registry may also be required (check for any local held graphics, .mnu files, etc. before deleting the Continuum directory) Seeing "Can not change directory to Continuum" see Cannot change directory to Continuum error during installation of Cyberstation Re-Installing Continuum is sometimes required, for example, an automatic update to the Antivirus software has been seen to stop listviews from working. The only way around this was to uninstall Continuum then re-install it. There are different levels to uninstalling possible, 1.Simple uninstall. 2. Uninstalled followed by removing the Continuum Directory and other .ini files. 3. Uninstalled followed by removing the Continuum Directory and other .ini files, followed by cleaning of the registry.  In a few more recent cases where Controllers will not come online (after testing for other errors) or where persistent MSMQ errors cannot be resolved, a complete re-install of the OS may be required to ensure a "clean" Windows OS is available. Uninstalling some Continuum required programs can cause issues, especially SQL. see Problem uninstalling software. The following method has been seen to work: Stop service, uninstall, delete folders, run CCleaner (or Revo) and clean registry, reboot, run CCleaner (or Revo) and clean registry, reboot, re-install SQL Shared Memory errors seen with 32b systems and v2.0SP1, see "Shared Memory" error on startup of Continuum

Using WireShark to analyse communications on an Ethernet network

Issue General use of the Wireshark program. Product Line Access Expert, Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Expert, EcoStruxure Building Operation, Pelco, Satchwell MicroNet, Satchwell Sigma, TAC IA Series, TAC INET, TAC Vista Environment Ethernet Networks Cause General Information on using WireShark. Resolution Wireshark is an Ethernet packet analysis programme, Which can be downloaded from: Latest version available from Wireshark Locally stored version 1.0.9 Installing Wireshark If necessary, unzip the WireShark executable file to a suitable location on the PC/Laptop you wish the programme to be installed on. Run the executable file and follow the on-screen instructions. Rules for capturing LAN traffic using Wireshark: Do not use a switch or router to connect the LAN capture PC to the network as these will filter important network activity that you will need to see. You will want to capture everything that is passing over the network at the point of concern. Usually, this means tapping into the ethernet at the Controller or controllers, that is having an issue. midBit-Technologies-LLC-10-100 is an example of a device that can be used to easily tap into the network to take the capture. The monitoring PC must see all traffic from the controller's point of view. The monitoring PC can be connected in either two ways: Connected to the network at the controller The customers IT department can mirror all the network traffic from the controllers port to another port the PC can be connected to. If connected to the network at the controllers, the connection must be made through a true ethernet hub. A hub will not selectively filter important network traffic as a switch or a router will do. More information on what a "true ethernet hub" can be found at http://wiki.wireshark.org/HubReference There are however some switches that feature port mirroring, please see How to Configure a NETGEAR Prosafe Plus Switch for Mirroring. If connected to a mirrored port, the port must mirror 100% of the network traffic to and from the controller. No filtering should be done. Once a complete capture file has been obtained it can be filtered after the fact using WireShark or EtherReal. Using Wireshark Run WireShark Start a trace by choosing the "Capture" menu and then select "Interfaces" Choose the appropriate interface. Generally, this can be identified by its IP Address, but if not, then the packets increasing are an indication. Press the "Start" button. The trace will start and will be similar to the following screenshot. After an appropriate time, the trace can be stopped by selecting "Capture" menu and "Stop" To save the capture file, choose "File" menu and "Save As".

How to extract an XIF out of a Lon controller

Issue There may be a situation where the External Interface File (XIF) needs to be extracted out of the controller in order to properly set up the controller in a building automation system.  Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, TAC IA Series, TAC Vista Environment External Interface File (XIF) NodeUtil Loytec XIF Builder Cause These tools will help with the extraction of an XIF file. An XIF file is used to create a Niagara R2 shadow object, a Niagara G3 LMNL file, LonWorks device template, and a SmartStruxure device template.  Resolution The device manufacturer should provide an XIF, and in most cases, a DRF kit as well. The XIF provided by the manufacturer of the controller should be used first but if issues arise it may be required to extract the file from the controller. There are a number of tools available that will create an XIF, but the DRF kit cannot be created by any tool and must be supplied by the manufacturer. This MUST be provided along with the device. The list below covers some of the tools which are available. NodeUtil                          (header: bad,           NVs: ok,                      DMA/File-SCPTs are omitted) Vista's XIF-builder           (header: bad,           NVs: almost ok..,       DMA/File-SCPTs are omitted)  Loytec plugIn                  (does a perfect XIF from a device using Loytec's stack)   NodeUtil is available from the Echelon website (free registration is required) - The NodeUtilLauncher package attached makes it easy to use NodeUtil with Loytec interfaces. Loytec XIF Builder is available from the Loytec website (free registration is required) Using Lonmaker and the XIF Builder. Using NL220 and the XIF Builder. If the uploaded XIF still contains some detailed prompted error, refer to Error displayed when importing a device XIF into SmartStruxure.
