Do you need a Field Device license for Xenta IO modules

Issue Do the Xenta IO modules, when used under a programable Xenta device, need to have a Field Device license added? Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Licensing Cause No clear information is provided on if the Xenta IO model needs a Field Device license. Resolution No Field License is needed for IO modules if they are set up under a Xenta programable device like a Xenta 400 or 300 series device. Only the devices that communicate to a Building Operation server require a license (Enterprise or Automation Servers). The Xenta IO modules only communicate with the Xenta programable device using LACNET communication and not the Building Operation servers.

How to run DWiz (Download Wizard) in EBO environment

Issue Detailing configuration and starting DWiz on a computer running EcoStruxure for Buildings Operation. Product Line EcoStruxure Buildings Operation Environment Building Operation Workstation Xenta 281 Xenta 301 Xenta 401 Cause DWiz (Download Wizard) was a part of the TAC Vista installation, but not so commonly used in EcoStruxure Buildings Operation, and therefore no longer included in the Start menu. It is however still installed and could be started from Windows File Explorer. Resolution   Verify the Com port used. If your computer does have a serial port, this is normally Com1 or Com2. If you are using a USB to RS232 adapter (like Aten), you could get a much higher number. The program requires a port number between 1 and 9. You may need to change the port number. This could be done via Windows Device Manager. In Windows File Manager, go to the directory where EcoStruxure Buildings Operation Workstation is installed. Here you will find DWiz.exe as well as MentaSetup.exe. Start MentaSetup.exe, adjust Com Port, select Apply and Close. MentaSetup        5.  Now it should be possible to start DWiz.exe located in the same directory.

Reading registers and temperature unit conversion on SpaceLogic TH90x sensors

Issue When setting up the TH90x series thermostats there are communication limitations.  Unable to pull multiple registers.  Some registers are only in Celsius, regardless of the display setting. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, Field Devices Environment SpaceLogic TH903 Series Thermostat SpaceLogic TH907 Series Thermostat Cause The TH903/TH907 does not support multiple/block register reads in Modbus.    The following parameters will show their value in Celsius only via Modbus communication regardless of whether the display is showing values in Celsius or Fahrenheit:   All SpaceLogic Series TH9xx thermostats Register 30 - Function Code 3/6 - Room Temperature (from the remote Modbus Controller) Register 1 - Function Code 4 - Actual Room Temperature 7 Day Programming Versions of TH900: Register 26 - Function Code 3/6 - 7 Day program schedule, heat set-point Register 27 - Function Code 3/6 - 7 Day program schedule, cool set-point Register 30 is used by the customer to override the current temperature. This register expects a value to be written to it every 15 seconds. If no values are written to it every 15 seconds, then it will populate with our internal temperature sensor value. Resolution Registers must be read one at a time rather than in groups. When using Modbus write the set-point values in Celsius.

AS-P with infinet devices crashes during Spring time-change

Issue AS-P that has infinet devices connected to it, crashes during the Spring time-change of daylight savings. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Automation Server Andover Continuum, infinet devices Cause Infinet schedules are sent down to the controller on a weekly basis. Having changed from default to be on Sunday between the time of 2:00 AM and 2:59 AM causes issues during daylight savings time "spring forward" due to that hour time span not existing. This causes the AS-P to crash. Resolution If you have schedules being download differently from the default time interval, ensure that they are not being done on Sundays, between the time of 2:00 AM and 2:59 AM. If they are, update them forward or back an hour to avoid further issues.

Seeing license message when attempting to login

Issue Prevented from logging in to Security Expert due to client licenses being available. See message "Licensed number of connections exceeded" when attempting to login. Login Message Product Line EcoStruxure Security Expert Environment Security Expert Client Cause The Concurrent client connections are being used up by active Security Expert clients or clients that have not been properly logged out.   Available licenses can be confirmed by checking under About | License. The Concurrent client connections feature will show the number of used connections out of the total available for use.  Consumed Connection Licenses Resolution 1 - Log out unused Security Expert clients. Currently logged in Operators can be determined by checking the Windows application event logs Security Expert Data Service events for "New Operator Logon" and "Remove Operator by Disconnect". These contain the record id and name of the operator identifying who has logged in. Those Operators are still logged in if there is no reciprocal disconnect message seen. If it can't be determined from the Operator which machine is being logged into this can be identified by viewing currently open ports to the server using Wireshark.   2 - Correctly close the Security Expert client to release the client license Closing the Security Expert client by clicking the "x" on the windows taskbar can close the application without first logging out the current Operator. This can result in the concurrent client license not being released. To then release the consumed licenses the Security Expert server must be restarted. Taskbar Log out the Operator before closing the Security Expert client or close the Security Expert client by clicking the "x" at the top right of the client window. Close Client   3 - Operator timeout This setting is disabled by default. Set the "Enable operator timeout" setting on Operators for an appropriate time. After this amount of time with no activity the Operator will be automatically logged out releasing the client license. Operator timeout

EWS / Smart Connector Duplicate Hosted Objects and Binding Issues

Issue When hosting objects from EWS/Smart Connector, such as Security Expert, into EcoStruxure Building Operation (EBO), additional or mismatched object names can result in unresolved bindings and duplicate EWS IDs. Common symptoms include:  - Duplicate EWS IDs with different names - Unresolved or broken bindings - Binding loss after deleting containers   Duplicate EWS IDs with different namesDuplicate EWS IDs with different names Unresolved or broken bindingsUnresolved or broken bindings     Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, EcoStruxure Security Expert. Environment EcoStruxure Building Operation Enterprise Server (ES) Security Expert Smart Connector Integration EcoStruxure Web Service (EWS) Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support for assistance. Cause Typical reasons for this to occur: Hosted object names do not match those in Security Expert. Deleting containers without proper renaming can cause binding loss. Resolution   Best Practices for Future Hosting Always rename the hosted object in EBO before rehosting from the hardware folder. This ensures that existing bindings are preserved. Avoid hosting the entire `SecurityExpertServer` container—only host changed or new objects. For Unbound or Irrelevant Objects: - If objects have no bindings, naming is not critical from an EBO perspective - Delete the container and rehost the object from the **Hardware folder**.   To Retain Existing Bindings  Identify the correct object name in the Hosted Containers folder  Copy the name to avoid typos. Delete the duplicate object with the correct name. Rename the existing EWS ID to match the copied name. Save the rename Verify bindings: Right-click the renamed object Select Delete Click Show References Confirm bindings are still valid. Click No to cancel deletion. Repeat this process for each object (inputs, outputs, doors, etc.) that has existing bindings.

Jace 9000 and NRIO Failures

Issue This issue is described in Tridium's internal case NCCB-71360. Users will notice that the default Nrio Device Manager view (Ux/web media) of the NrioNetwork driver in N4.14 looks identical to the previously existing workbench AX view; however, due to this defect, devices discovered and added through the web view will not function as expected.  Product Line TAC IA Series Environment I/A Series N4 Jace 9000 I/A Series N4.14 Framework Version Cause With the release of the Jace 9000, users may notice that the IO-R-16 and IO-R-34 devices will not function properly when discovery and configuration are performed through the web views. Resolution To tell if the device was added through the correct view, there are a few indicators. Malfunctioning devices will not show up with an Installed Version or a Sec version in either view: Working devices will display these values with no issue in either view: The malfunctioning devices' health section will read 'fail' even with a status of ok: Users in N4.14 should only use the Workbench AX Nrio Device Manager view to discover and add devices to a station. This use case is currently not supported in the browser for N4.14. All other use cases function in the UX Web Views, such as viewing devices, adding points, and commanding points.

Queue Full Exception in Niagara

Issue Encounter Queue Full Exception in context of "Error writing BACnet point" Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, TAC IA Series Environment I/A Series N4 Jace 8000 I/A Series N4 Jace 9000 Niagara Station running as SoftJace or 3rd Party Jace Cause If you notice queue overflow messages in the station dialog, it is essential to know which queue is overflowing. There are many different communications mechanisms in BACnet, and they use different queues. Resolution The canonical reference article is located on Niagara Community: BACnet Tuning Suggestions I have excerpted the following as a Rule of Thumb for the recommended starting configuration: Configure your tuning policies so that write-on-start is not enabled on some of the points - otherwise, the JACE may start with a to-do list that is larger than the queue can handle. The recommended configuration from Tridium is to set BACnet WriteWorker queues to 1.5 times the number of writable points. However, as initial configuration, Product Support has found these values to perform better than the defaults, so change the following values from 1000 to 3000. View the BacnetNetwork Property Sheet Expand Bacnet Comm Expand BACnet Comm -> Server -> Worker and Confirmed Worker Expand BACnet Comm -> Transport Change the various Queue Sizes from 1000 to 3000. Please consult PSS if a change to a value higher than 3000, as that has been found to adversely affect performance.

Common Modbus error codes seen in trace logs

Issue Understanding common Modbus error codes that appear in Building Operation trace logs. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Automation Server Building Operation Enterprise Server Modbus Cause Modbus protocol errors are seen when looking at Building operation trace logs. Resolution Below are common Modbus error codes observed in trace logs, their meanings, and example log entries. Error Code 4 – Server Device Failure Message: RESP_DATA_MISMATCH Meaning: This error indicates that the Modbus slave device encountered an unrecoverable internal error while attempting to execute the requested command. This is a problem within the slave device itself, not a communication error on the client side. Possible Causes: Attempting to write to a protected memory area Device in an unsuitable state for the command Example Log Entry: Dec 27 08:15:01 AS-P-18E4A6 nsp_servers[1151]: 2024-12-27 08:15:01.767 [1654641088] nsp.pin.modbus.SerTransport Flush buffer. Protocol error code = 4 Error Code 10 – Illegal Data Value Message: Flush buffer. Protocol error code = 10 Meaning: This error suggests the slave device rejected a data value sent by the master. Possible Causes: Value out of acceptable range Attempt to write to a read-only address Example Log Entry: Dec 27 08:15:01 AS-P-18E4A6 nsp_servers[1151]: 2024-12-27 08:15:01.774 [1654641088] nsp.pin.modbus.SerTransport Flush buffer. Niagara N4.15 does not support JACE 8000 WiFi radio

Issue JACE 8000 WiFi radio Product Line  TAC IA Series Environment I/A Series N4 Jace 8000 I/A Series N4.15 Software Cause Niagara Framework, Niagara 4.15, includes an update to the QNX operating system that no longer supports the WiFi chipset in the JACE 8000. Resolution Customers who have deployed JACE 8000 devices with the WiFi connectivity option will not be able to activate or configure the WiFi radio under Niagara 4.15.  Blackberry QNX has dropped support for the WiFi chipset used in the JACE 8000. This change was effective with the latest release of its QNX 7.1 Software Development Platform (SDP) in November of 2024. Niagara 4.15 includes this QNX 7.1 SDP update and will install based on the current setting of the JACE 8000 WiFi radio.   What should the Jace 8000 WiFi customer expect When upgrading a JACE 8000-WiFi unit to Niagara 4.15, switch the WiFi radio to the DISABLED setting before attempting to install. In this configuration, 4.15 will install normally. Note that after commissioning, you will no longer see the WiFi Configuration option on the platform menu, and you will not be able to connect via WiFi. Also, note that Niagara 4.15 will not install if the WiFi radio is set to ENABLED.     What to do in situations where WiFi connectivity is needed A factory reset will restore Niagara 4.9, and the JACE will regain its WiFi functionality. You can then commission the JACE 8000-WiFi unit with Niagara 4.14.

How to move Infinet devices from one port to another in the same Automation Server

Issue It is sometimes necessary to move a previously configured Infinet i2 device from one Infinet network to another in the same parent Automation Server. EcoStruxure Building Operation does not provide an automatic way to move an i2 device; it must be done manually. Product Line  EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Automation Server Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support for assistance. Cause Guidance on steps to move Infinet i2 device from one Infinet network to another in the same host Automation Server Resolution In this example, we are going to move multiple Infinet i2 devices from the Infinet network on COM-A to the Infinet network on COM-B.   Backup Make sure to make a backup of the Automation Server before attempting the steps below. This is in case there is a need to revert the changes for whatever reasons. Export Devices from COM-A From COM-A Infinet network, display a List View of the devices, making sure to have columns displaying the Infinet ID and Serial Number. Write down the Infinet IDs and Serial Numbers of the devices to be moved. In the List View, multi-select the devices to be moved, right click and perform an 'Export', leave the Export Reference Filter at default (Export). After successful export, right click on the selected devices again and delete them from COM-A Infinet network. Prepare COM-B for Import From COM-B Infinet network, display a List View of the devices, making sure to have columns for Infinet ID and Serial Number. Observe the Infinet ID column, and compare with the notes taken above of the moving devices' Infinet ID, for IDs that are already in use in COM-B, you will need to assign a new ID to the device moving from COM-A Infinet network to COM-B, update your notes to include an available ID on COM-B. (see example below of what the notes might look like)   Import Devices to COM-B ***  In the System Tree, select the COM-B Infinet network and perform an import of the XML file created via export above. Physically move the devices from COM-A Infinet to COM-B Infinet. When doing so, avoid introducing duplicated Infinet IDs into COM-B Infinet. Make sure to power down the devices you are moving, connect them to COM-B Infinet, and only then power up the devices. On power up, the devices perform an ID check and stay off the bus if they detect their IDs are already in use. Configure Devices in COM-B From COM-B Infinet network, display a List View of the devices making sure to have columns for Infinet ID and Serial Number. Right click each device moved from COM-A Infinet to COM-B Infinet, and select "Properties", in the "Advanced" tab, enter the appropriate Infinet ID and Serial Number for the device then click "OK". In the List View, right click the device from previous step again, select "Device->Commission", after successful commission the device should go ONLINE Final Steps After all the moved devices are online, you should download ALL (whether moved or not) the devices to have their programs recompile and rebuild their Import/Export tables. Fix any references that were lost due to devices changing Infinet network and Infinet ID *** NOTE Due to an issue that was corrected in EBO 6.x, import may fail with error "Invalid InfinetId", the workaround for this problem is to manually create the Infinet devices on the destination port using the appropriate name, serial number and Infinet ID, then do the import selecting the option to merge on conflict.

Issue How are Elsys LoRaWAN sensors configured with a smartphone using NFC Product Line EcoStruxure Building Activate Environment EcoStruxure Building Activate Flex Server EcoStruxure Building Activate Partner Portal Warning Electrostatic Discharge Required: Always discharge static electricity from your person by touching metal prior to handling any hardware. Failure to do so may result in damage to devices. Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support for assistance. Cause All Elsys sensors are equipped with NFC for easy configuration with a smartphone. There is a requirement to configure these sensors using a Smartphone or tablet using Elsys 'Sensor Settings' application. Resolution Download the ELSYS “Sensor Settings” application from Google Play or the IOS App store and install it on a smartphone or tablet.     Ensure the mobile device supports NFC. Enable NFC on the device and start the application. Position the mobile device directly on the NFC antenna of the sensor. Ensure both devices remain close and stationary to maintain optimal connectivity. Remove the mobile device. The current settings will be displayed in the application. Set the 'Timebase' to 120 seconds using the application. Remember to revert it to 600 seconds after commissioning!    Make note of the following sensor keys: DevEUI: The unique ID of the sensor, found in the blue panel at the top.
