PCT 1.x Connection Issue Error: "Get System State Command: 'Could not connect' "

Issue This condition will arise after successfully installing and running Project Configuration Tool for some time. PCT 1.x can no longer initialize the virtual host adapter as a result of the adapter being deleted or removed. The errors may be a result of but not limited to: Introducing a new VPN software package to your PC/Laptop. Manually removing or modifying the Virtual Box Host Only - Network Adapter. Malware or Antivirus platforms that have removed or disabled the adapter. Example: PCT Version - 1.1.2.57 Local mode was set up on a physical laptop and used to offline engineer a project. The job was completed and PCT was not used again for roughly a month. A new project was sold and required PCT for offline engineering. The laptop was booted up and PCT failed to open. The user was presented with the following errors: "Get System State Command: 'Could not connect' " "Get predefined properties command: 'Could not connect' " "GetDashboardErrors Command: 'Could not connect' " "Get System Memory info Command: 'Could not connect' " Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Windows Client versions (64 Bit Only) Windows Server versions (64 Bit Only) PCT SERVER versions (64 Bit OS Only) Project Configuration Tool 1.x Cause PCT 1.x can no longer initialize the virtual host adapter as a result of the Vbox adapter being deleted or removed. Resolution Reinstall PCT 1.x on top of your current installation. Your projects will not be modified in the process. Locate the installer. Run the installer, it will ask you to remove the previous version. Press ok. Progress will show as uninstalling. PCT will prompt for installation. Click Next. Select default installation paths. Click Next. Select desired PCT mode. Click next. Ready to Install selected mode. Click Next. PCT software installed. Click Finish. Now PCT will set up the Virtual Host Adapter. Press Ok. Status bar. Compted setup dialog. Click Ok. Run PCT. If successful you will see the template sets getting installed via the top right of the window. Open a project and test an AS/AS-P. If the above steps do not work, here are a few more to try:   Restart the machine after the PCT software finishes re-installing Right-click and select “Run as Administrator” Uninstall PCT software and Oracle VirtualBox and re-install once more   If PCT 1.x still will not work, please open a support case with your local Product Support Group.

Creating Windows Firewall rules to allow StruxureWare Building Operation to communicate on the TCP port

Issue Unable to establish communication between the enterprise and automation servers through the TCP Port 4444. Values are not being passed between the enterprise to the automation servers or between automation server to automation server. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Enterprise Server Building Operation Automation Server Premium Building Operation Workstation Cause Windows Firewall is not allowing inbound or outbound information from passing through the TCP port 4444. Resolution First download and run TCP View. With TCP View running, sort the list by the Local Port and find all devices that are talking on port 4444. If the automation servers are in a state of LISTENING then rules must be created to allow communication. Copy the file path of SE.EnterpriseServer.exe in order to create the rules. This can be found by right clicking on one of the SE.EnterpriseServer.exe process > Process Properties... (C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\StruxureWare 1.2\Enterprise Server\bin\SE.EnterpriseServer.exe) If the automation servers are in the state of ESTABLISHED, then take a look at Binding between ES and AS or two AS shows Unresolved and "Communication Failed" Alarm occurs when Adding an AS. Source: /Server 1/Servers/ASL/System/Server Communications/Models/2deef04c-05d1-41ae-9c3f-f84a9f7e0b41 for more troubleshooting help.   Change Windows Firewall Settings to Allow Programs Go to Start > Control Panel. Click on Windows Firewall. Click on "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall" on the left hand side of the window. Find "StruxureWare Building Operation" in the list of programs and make sure Home/Work and Public networks are selected.  Note: If you do not have permission rights to make changes in this area of Windows, move on to the next section where you can set up inbound and outbound firewall rules.   Creating Inbound and Outbound Windows Firewall Rules Go to Start > Control Panel.  Click on Windows Firewall. Click "Advanced settings" on the left side of the window. Select Inbound Rules on the left side of the window and then click New Rule... on the right side of the window. On the first screen of the New Rule Wizard, choose Program. Click Next. In "This program path:" either browse to SE.EnterpriseServer.exe or paste the file path that was copied earlier from the TCP View into the box. Click Next. Select the option to "Allow the connection". Click Next. Leave Domain, Private, and Public checked unless otherwise desired. Click Next. Name the rule StruxureWare. Click Finish. Select Outbound Rules on the left side of the window and then click New Rule... on the right side of the window. Follow steps 5 through 9 to create the Outbound Rule. Note that the SBO Firewall Config tool on the community can be used to automatically create the required firewall rules.

What are termination resistors and why use them?

Issue What are termination (end of line) resistors and why use them? A LAN of any type has a node or two somewhere in the middle having problems but the rest seem stable Product Line TAC INET Environment I/NET Site Controller LAN 7808 Repeater Cause Termination resistors (also called clamping or end-of line resistors) are to be installed between lan+ and lan -, not to ground. Their purpose is to prevent the characteristic impedance of the wire from increasing to infinity at the end of the cable. Resolution Since most wire's characteristic impedance is between 80 and 150 ohms, use 100 to 120 ohms on an unbiased controller or host lan. This will "clamp" reflections from the end of the wire which are seen as noise by the controllers. If a 7808 repeater is used, it requires bias. Using 100 ohm termination resistors would kill that lan's communication; therefore, use 620 ohms instead. As cheap as resistors are and as easy as this installation is, they can only help. Typically they help more on a longer LAN, so anything longer than 1000 feet (about 300 meters) should definitely have terminations.

Project Configuration Tool (PCT) fails to open on Schneider Electric computer, four “could not connect” error messages are shown

Issue PCT fails to open, presenting four 'could not connect' error messages.   Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Project Configuration Tool Windows 10 version 1909 Windows 10 version 2004 Cause The cause maybe a firewall, scripts or group policy not allowing PCT to install correctly. Resolution First: check the VirtualBox Host-Only Network has the correct IP address. This can be found under: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections\VirtualBox Host-Only Network #?\Properties\Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).   Raise a case with your region's IT2929 (UK = 020 7660 2747), requesting IT install the patch to correct the issue. IT2929 have a knowledge base article on the IT2929 system to help their representatives with this issue (KB0014074).   IT2929 will advise you to take a backup of your PCT projects, uninstall PCT and Oracle VM VirtualBox. IT2929 will then install the patch. Re-boot the laptop. Install PCT and Oracle VM VirtualBox (run as administrator). Restore your PCT projects. Re-boot the computer. If PCT still does not work after this, update the CCC case you have or create a new case with Product Support, providing your IT2929 KSR number is you do not have a case.

BACnet Interface - Contains Unresolved BACnet Reference

Issue The BACnet Interface Contains a Yellow Exclamation Icon and when you hover over to read the tooltip it states, “Contains Unresolved BACnet Reference”. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment EcoStruxure Building Operation Building Operation Multi-Purpose Controller Building Operation Multi-purpose VAV Building Operation Room Controller Building Operation IP-IO Cause There is a reference misconfiguration within the “Time Synchronization Recipients” under the BACnet Interface. Resolution Select and highlight the BACnet Interface then select the Time Synchronization Recipients TAB Compare the list Names with the list to the left under the IP Network Tree. In this example, we can see that MPV-9A is not a controller within my database under the IP Network_2. Highlight/Select the controller under Time Synchronization recipients and edit the details by clicking on the pencil icon. Within the Time Synchronization Recipient screen, we want to adjust this device to match the ACTUAL device located under our IP Network_2 named MP-9A_Roof. Click on the “three dots|ellipsis “to browse to the correct Recipient device identifier. In this example: Select the BACnet Interface > IP Network_2 > MPV-9A_Roof as this is the correct path for this device. At this point, we have the correct path under the Recipient device object reference. Adjust the Recipient name to match the BACnet name you configured for that device. In this example, it was set to MPV-9A_Roof. TIP: Click the BACnet button to fill in the recipient name field with the BACnet name of the device referenced in the recipient device object reference field. Click OK. If this is the only device you need to modify then you can click the SAVE icon. If you have more devices to adjust, then you will repeat the process until you're done with all the devices. You have now resolved the reference errors against the BACnet Interface.

Unable to upgrade AS-P to V3.2.x using USB

Issue AS-B/P is unable to upgrade to the EcoStruxure Building Operation V3.2.x from out-of-the-box or DFU mode. When checking the upgrade progress file, you receive the following error: Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Automation Server Premium Building Operation Automation Server Bundled Cause In V3.2.1, the change was made to use IP-over-USB as a way to communicate faster through the USB. Due to this, IPv4 and IPv6 need to be enabled on the connected device running Device Administrator. Resolution Check to make sure IPv6 is enabled on your machine. Open a Command Prompt window and run the "route print -6" command If it only shows two IPv6 addresses then IPv6 is disabled and you will need to enable it To enable IPv6 Open Registry Editor on your Windows Machine Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\ Double-click on DisabledComponents to edit Change value from "FF" (IPv6 disabled) to "00" (IPv6 enabled) Note: The Disabled Components registry value does not affect the state of the check box. Therefore, even if the Disabled Components registry key is set to disable IPv6, the check box in the Networking tab for each interface can still be checked. This is the expected behavior. Note: You must restart your computer for these changes to take effect.

Enter the new date/time in the form YYYYMMDDhhmm[.SS].  Note that entering the seconds is optional. For example: 201801111420 for 11-Jan-2018 at 8:20am UTC or 8:20am CST. Enable SFPT The Secure FTP service is not enabled by default on a JACE.  Enable the SFPT from the menu above or the shell prompt (if required). Using menu ... the fourth item in the menu list allows you to enable SSH/SFTP.  Enable it now, using port 22. Once enabled, enter another choice, "sh" (without quotes).  This will give you the "#" or "$" prompt that you need. If you could not enable from the menu in the step above, manually start by issuing the command tsudo syssh_sshcfg at the shell prompt.   If the command fails, issue the syssh_sshcfg command.  If the command fails again, enter the following ... $ cd /sys/bin ... then enter $ ./syssh_sshcfg ... then enter Transfer the n4clean.tar.gz and OS Image Files using SFTP Client Using an SFTP client such as FileZilla, transfer the n4clean.tar.gz file previously extracted for the platform from the clean dist file to the JACE's /zip directory. If the transfer fails with a permissions error, issue the command tsudo chmod 777 /zip at the shell prompt and try it again. Next, transfer the .image file you extracted from the clean dist file to the JACE's /dev/shmem directory. Run osupdate From the login menu prompt, type sh.  This will exit the menu system and enter the shell mode.  At the "#" or "$" shell prompt, issue the command osupdate.  After a short delay, the shell prompt will return. Reboot the JACE Finally, reboot the JACE.  This can be done by issuing the command shutdown hf 0 at the shell prompt.  When the JACE restarts, the unit will automatically process the clean dist file.

Wireshark capture ring buffer for continuous capturing

Issue In order to troubleshoot random network issues, it is sometimes necessary to set up Wireshark to capture network traffic for an extended period of time. As Wireshark runs it decodes packets and its data structures grow. This causes performance issues and eventually, Wireshark may simply run out of virtual memory and stop capturing or crash. Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Wireshark Cause Need to capture network traffic using Wireshark for an extended period of time. Resolution Open Wireshark and follow these instructions: From toolbar, select Capture -> Options On the Input tab, select input adapter. If necessary set capture filter. On the Output tab, perform the following: Browse capture file location and provide a filename. A timestamp will be added to the filename as a suffix. Ensure output format = pcapng Check Create a new file automatically Check After 1 and change seconds to hours Check when time is multiple of 1 and change seconds to hour Check use a ring buffer with X files. (Recommended settings are 96 hours (4 days) or 168 hours (1 week) so can retrieve files after long weekend or 1 week, respectively).  On the Options tab, perform the following Check last selection and change to 744 hours. (Recommended to capture for 31 days without stopping).  When an event happens, gather a capture with the timestamp before and after the event. One can ZIP the .pcapng files to save space when transferring.   NOTE: More recent versions of Wireshark ( 2.4.1.21317 ) make it very easy to set up a ring buffer from the Output tab of the Capture options. For older versions of Wireshark 1.x use the steps below When capturing data, Wireshark actually uses a capture utility called DumpCap to do the actual data capture. DumpCap does not decode packets as they come in and thus has a smaller memory footprint which remains constant. The only remaining concern is the size of the capture file or files which can be specified when starting the ring buffer to keep them from growing too big. DumpCap is found at the location where the Wireshark program resides which can be seen if you go to Help\About Whireshark\Folders Determine the index to the Ethernet adapter you need to capture on. In this example, the traffic seen by the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet adapter will be captured. Index 1 is specified when starting DumpCap. Execute DumpCap with the following options dumpcap -i 1 -b files:3 -b filesize:10 -w C:]temp\abe.pcapng -i 1 specifies tp capture on the network adapter with an index of 1 -b file: 3 specifies to use a 4 file ring buffer. -b filesize:10 specifies to limit the file size to 10 KB (*** for a real life capture this number would be much bigger like say 100/200 MB) -w c:\temp\abe.pcapng specifies location and prefix for the three files In the screenshot below we can see the files in the ring buffer being used, once a file reaches the specified limit, the capture continues at the next file, files are names using the specified prefix as well as a date-time stamp that is updated each time utility dumps captured data in the file. Care should be taken to stop the capture as soon as possible once the issue under investigation takes place and before the ring buffer wraps around and overwrites the data.

Using telnet command to check for open ports

Issue Checking if a port is open Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Expert, EcoStruxure Building Operation, Field Devices, Pelco, Satchwell MicroNet, Satchwell Sigma, TAC IA Series, TAC INET, TAC Vista Environment TCP/IP Communication Command Prompt Telnet Command Cause Suspect certain network ports are blocked and need to verify Resolution It is possible to check if a port is open in a network by issuing the Telnet command. Note:- Telnet operates using the TCP protocol. UDP connectivity cannot be tested using Telnet. If a port is open, a blank screen will be seen after issuing the command: telnet [domainname or ip] [port] where [domainname or ip] is the domain name or IP address of the server being checked [port] is the port number the server application is listening on For example: telnet 192.168.0.20 9001 (to a closed port would display a connect failed message)   telnet 192.168.0.20 9003 (to an open port would display a blank screen)   To exit the Telnet session, type Ctrl + ] and then type "quit".   For how to enable Telnet in Windows 7 please see Enable Telnet Client on a Windows 7 PC
