TAC Xenta servers are going offline in TAC Vista

Issue Windows update KB4519976 causes all Xenta servers to go offline in TAC Vista every few minutes. Product Line TAC Vista Environment TAC Vista Server Microsoft Windows 7 or Microsoft Windows 2008 Server Xenta 500 Xenta 700 Xenta 900 Cause After the Windows update, KB4519976 is installed, the SSL handshake behavior is changed. This affects TAC Vista and its communication with the TAC Xenta server. Resolution There are two workarounds available at the moment. Solution 1: Uninstall Windows update KB4519976 Solution 2: Turn off SSL for the communication between TAC Vista and the TAC Xenta server using the registry setting shown below. This means that only the login will be encrypted when TAC Vista is communicating with the TAC Xenta servers. Run the utility TacosTweak.exe, located in the program folder where TAC Vista is installed. Set "Only use SSL for login to TAC Xenta Servers(5xx/7xx)" to 1 to run the communication between TAC Vista and TAC Xenta servers without SSL. Restart the TAC Vista server for the changes to take effect.

Values are indicating [??787] in Workstation.

Issue Point values are not displayed in Vista Workstation.  Instead, all of them say [??787]. Product Line TAC Vista Environment Vista Workstation Cause The most common cause of the ??787 error message is a mismatch in the XIF between the device and the Vista database.  It may also be duplicate SNVT names in the XIF. Resolution There are a few common troubleshooting techniques that have been applied successfully to the ??787 error and resolved the issue.  The first is to upload parameters from the device.  The second is to browse the correct XIF to the device to eliminate any mismatch. Upload parameters Right-click on the device in Vista Workstation. Select Upload Parameters. Shut down Vista and restart. Make certain you are using the correct XIF The only way to be absolutely certain that the XIF in the device matches the one in the database is to upload the XIF from the device.  You may need to create a dummy LNS database to do so.  Add a generic device and commission with the option to upload the XIF from the device. Update the Vista database.  Again, this may need to be a dummy Vista database. To obtain that XIF, right-click on the device in Workstation and select Properties.  The XIF File tab lists the database copy of the XIF file (hexadecimal file name) that can be found in the Vista database directory in the $thisfil folder. Browse the correct XIF into the Vista Workstation If you are certain you have the correct XIF, right-click on the device in Vista Workstation.  Select the XIF File tab. At the bottom under Source File, click the "..." button and browse to the XIF file. Click okay.  Log out of Workstation and log back in to see the changes take effect. It may then be necessary to right-click on the controller and select Commission and Download. Remove duplicate SNVTs Open the XIF in a word editor (Notepad, Wordpad) Find the duplicate SNVT name using the Find feature Rename one of the SNVTs to a unique name. Use the above steps to browse this new XIF into Vista Workstation. XIF file contains internal variables Open the XIF in a word editor (Notepad, Wordpad) Search for the variable whose value displayed as [??787] If the variable is not listed in the XIF file, it is possible that this is an internal variable which Vista cannot read a value from Contact the manufacture of this device and ask if they can expose the value with a network variable in order for Vista to read it.

TAC Xenta I/O modules as LonWorks device indicates offline after power restore

Issue TAC Xenta I/O modules working as LonWorks device, indicates offline, flashes fast after power restore. Product Line TAC Vista, EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment XENTA421A XENTA451A Cause When the TAC Xenta I/O modules are used as Lonworks devices, this is indicated by the LED that flash once every tenth second. After a power failure, the device will indicate offline by 5 flashes per second.   The device will indicate offline until it gets an update to any nvi or nci variable. Resolution As soon as the device gets an update on any nvi or nci, it will again start to flash once every tenth second. This means, that if you only read variables from the device, that is, only uses its inputs, it may indicate offline until the next time the configuration is changed.   A workaround for this issue could be to just use a dummy output, that is updated regularly.

Error at generation of the MTA file

Issue When EcoStruxure Building Operation (EBO) is installed after TAC Vista on the same PC, changes to the national character set in the OP Configuration Tool in Menta cause an error preventing the generation of the MTA file. The error appears when the Generate command is selected in Menta. Depending on the combination of versions of EBO and TAC Vista, the error message is: "National character set not selected" "Cannot open file: struxureware path\ national.dec" (where struxureware path is the location of the Schneider Electric StruxureWare\ Building Operation 1.x installation folder) "ERROR! Failed to create OLE dispatcher: GraphOP.Application.320, GraphOP.Application.NSP" Product Line TAC Vista, EcoStruxure Building Operation   Environment Building Operation Workstation Vista Workstation Cause The installation of EBO overwrites settings in Menta regarding character sets. When Menta is opened with normal user rights, changes to character sets in the OP Configuration Tool are not saved due to the OS user security settings. Resolution Right-click on Menta in the program list and select "run as administrator". Then select your required character set in the OP Configuration Tool ("Formats | Character set file"). The changes can now be saved and Menta will generate successfully. This procedure is only required the first time you run Menta after installing EcoStruxure Building Operation. Normal user rights can be used for subsequent editing sessions.

TAC Xenta I/O modules do not come online after a download from System Plug-In

Issue TAC Xenta I/O modules do not come online after a download from System Plug-In Rapidly blinking green light on I/O modules show offline status (fast blink) Product Line TAC Vista Environment Xenta 400 series I/O modules Cause No I/O assigned to the module in the Menta file Needs a power cycle after download to associate with the base unit Resolution Verify that at least one hardware input or output is assigned to a terminal on the I/O module. If the I/O module is a spare that has been added for later expansion capabilities, it will never associate with the master or report an online status. If this is the case, assign a "dummy" input to the module temporarily if the rapidly blinking LED is a concern. Sometimes even if all of the correct information is downloaded to the TAC Xenta controller, the green light is still blinking rapidly (not configured) on the TAC Xenta I/O module. If this happens try to power cycle the TAC Xenta controller.

License Administrator error "EXITING DUE TO SIGNAL 28 Exit reason 5"

Issue The License Server is not working and may show Vendor Daemon Down errors. The LMadmin log shows the error. LicenseEngine (taclic) exited with status 28 Product Line TAC Vista EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Vista Building Operation Enterprise Server License server Cause Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is activated. Antivirus or other software can scan/use the port used by the vendor daemon. If the time drifts over two minutes and a time synch occurred, the vendor daemon can stop. https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX137111 Resolution First, check that DEP is not activated. Make sure that there is no antivirus program that has portscan activated Make sure there is no other software that uses the same port as the vendor daemon Make sure that the time does not drift too much, if the time drifts two or more minutes and then a resynch occurs the vendor daemon can stop This is more likely on VMware where time synch can occur from either the domain or VMware tool. Check Windows event log (Security) for time synch messages. NOTE: It can also appear just by stopping the server manually.

Is it possible to view web pages from an Xenta server using an iPhone or Android telephone?

Issue Is it possible to view web pages from an Xenta server using an iPhone or Android telephone? Environment Xenta Server 5.1.X Xenta 511, 527, 711, 731 Apple iPhone, iPad or Android smart phone mobile app Cause An increasing demand from customers to be able to monitor a site via a smart phone web browser. Resolution Whilst there are no official apps for iPhone or android smart phones, it is possible to create some static HTML pages which can be viewed in a smart phone web browser. There does however appear to be some restrictions is some web browsers, so try a number of different web browsers before determining if a web page works or not. The steps below outline how to create a simple variables page that can be viewed with a smart phone. An example is also attached as well as 2 copies of the HTML page that needs to be edited to increase the number of variables on the page. 1. Create a new Xbuilder project with the desired controller. 2. Create the folder structure for mobile users. a. Add a folder to the tree structure and name it "Mobile pages" or another appropriate name. b. Right-click on the page and select New\Page\HTML Variable Page. c. Select the tmpl1form.html template when prompted. d. 5 variables will be created in the folder under the HTML page. These are called SignalTag_1 - SignalTag_5. e. If more variables are required, right-click on the folder and select New\Object\Signal. Rename the signal "SignalTag_X" (in the example project SignalTag_6). f. Rename the variable page if required. g. Connect the signal tags to the appropriate signals e.g. LON/Modbus etc. 3. Generate the project. 4. Locate the Xbuilder project in windows explorer. Note the folder structure! 5. Locate the HTML variable page created under Project Name\Target Image\www\info\your folder name\your folder name\ 6. Edit the HTML variable  page that was created in Xbuilder (either notepad.exe or Microsoft front page or another appropriate HTML editor). The editing is to connect the extra variables created. In this example SignalTag_6 a. Locate the TAC_validateForm function at row 39. The original file contains 5 signals (as per the template): 'memsignal.4' to 'memsignal.8' Copy the complete text for one of the signals eg. for a boolean signal ,'memsignal.8','b','RinRange0:1' and then paste the text just before the closing bracket for the function. Rename the signal to memsignal.9 (or whatever the next number in the sequence is). b. Locate the paragraph tr bordercolor = "#000000# that contains the signal memsignal.8. c. Copy the entire paragraph and paste it in the document between the /tr of the previous paragraph and the tr bordercolor of the memsignal.8 paragraph. d. Remove the line containing "input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Submit" from the paragraph containing memsignal.8 e. Add the text: " " f. In the last paragraph containing "input type="Submit"...", change the memsignal.8 text to memsignal.9 and select the correct data type. Save the changes. 7. Copy the edited HTML page from ...\TAC XBuilder Projects\PSS Smart Phone\TargetImage\www\info\PSS Mobile Friendly Site\Mobile Pages to ...\TAC XBuilder Projects\PSS Smart Phone\UserTargetImage\www\info\PSS Mobile Friendly Site\Mobile Pages This creates the folder structure in the Xenta server when downloading the project. a. Download the project to the Xenta server (select "All files" when downloading). b. Browsing the Xenta server should result in a page similar to that shown below. 8. Configure a mobile user and grant the appropriate access levels. a. In the web interface go to Configuration\User Administration\User Administration and create a new user similar to the example below. b. Configure the user's access so they can only access the mobile folder and the pages contained within. 9. Log in with the newly created user and check that the view is similar to that shown below. The values should be able to be updated and submitted using the submit button. This is a very simple example, but this can easily be built upon with a little knowledge of HTML programming. For example, the home page can be adapted by using FTP to retrieve the intro731.html (or introXXX.html if you're using another Xenta server). Open the file and edit the following paragraph: You'll see that the text has been changed to "Mobile users, click here" and referred to a page PSS_HVAC/Mobile.html. This mobile.html page can be created and saved in the correct folder under user target image.  Link to Xbuilder project and before and after variables page.
