No license after reboot when TAC Vista Server (TACOS) runs as a service

Issue After rebooting the PC, TAC Vista Server (TACOS) doesn't get a license. You need to restart TACOS after each reboot to get a license. Product Line TAC Vista Environment TAC Vista License Server TAC Vista Server Cause TAC Vista Server (TACOS) starts up before the license system is ready to serve licenses, and therefore everything is offline until you restart TACOS. Resolution Download these tools TAC Vista Run Mode TACLicenseServer Settings (only for TAC Vista 5.1.8 and later) First of all, make sure that you have a system that is working normally and has the appropriate default settings. For more information, watch this video on YouTube Make the following setting in TACLicenseServer Settings [1] Set the startup type to "Automatic" and the taclic port to 2170 [2] Click the "License Setup" button, and write the name or IP address of the local PC. Don't use "localhost" or 127.0.0.1 but the actual name or IP.   [3] Click the "License Files" button, and check that only valid license file(s) is present in the license files folder - no other files can be in this folder. [4] Start the license server Make the following setting in TAC Vista Run Mode [1] Enter the username and password of a user with local administrator rights that have at some point been logged in on the PC. LocalSystem can be used, but it is not recommended. [2] Set TACOS to run as a service [3] In "Service Tools" set the service to start type "Automatic Delayed" [4] Start the service Now reboot the PC If TACOS still doesn't get a license after a reboot, try making this additional setting in TAC Vista Run Mode [1] Stop the service [2] Make the service depend on the license server, and also the Loytec driver if it is used in the system. Now reboot the PC If TACOS still doesn't get a license after a reboot, try adding this environment variable to Windows [1] Open the properties for the computer (Click the Windows start button, right-click "Computer", click "Properties") [2] Click on "Advanced system settings" [3] Add a new system variable called "TCP_NODELAY" and give it the value 1 Now reboot the PC If TACOS still doesn't get a license after a reboot, contact Product Support Services and reference this article Now reboot the PC If TACOS still doesn't get a license try making this additional setting in TAC Vista Run Mode Now reboot the PC If TACOS still doesn't get a license try making this additional setting in TAC Vista Run Mode

Differentiating Continuum LON IOU Modules. 485 vs FTT, Motorola vs Toshiba. Which file to use when upreving

Issue In the download center there are up to four files for the same version of the IOU modules firmware, how do I know which is the right file for my IOU module? Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Continuum IOU Module Cause The Neuron chip used in the Continuum IOU modules can support two different transceivers which are FTT-10A and RS-485, each type requires a different FW file. Additionally, the IOU module originally used a Motorola Neuron Chip ***, in 2001 the Motorola Neuron chip had to be replaced with a Toshiba chip when Motorola ceased production of their Neuron chips. A 3rd chip was used after, the Cypress chip. *** The AC-1 Plus, VT-1, Infistat, and LC-1 were not affected by the chip change as they did not use the Motorola Neuron chip. So you will only find 2 FW files for the same version and model these modules. Resolution 1. When up revving Continuum IOU modules first determine if the module is FTT-10A or RS-485. To determine the type lift the door cover of the IOU module and check the model written on the label. FT appended at the end of the model is for FTT-10A, RS-485 will either have 485 appended or only the model name with nothing appended at the end. If the door cover is missing then remove the inner cover and take a look at the label on the chip itself. The picture below shows an AC1-Plus FTT-10A module indicated by the FT on the label. If the label is missing you can easily identify FTT versus 485 by removing the upper part of the enclosure and inspecting the components populated in the communication section of the circuit. On the Net Controller itself (99xx or 9680) there will be an ECHELON FT component similar to the one in the picture below located in the upper right corner of the board, the Net Controller's cover will need to be removed to see the component.  2. Verify which Neuron chip (Motorola or Toshiba) is installed in the IOU module. 3. Get the appropriate FW file from the download center. R&D had to recompile for the Toshiba chip. The 20 version is the same as the 10 version and the 21 version is the same as the 11 version. Download the IO module firmware Note:  Version 10,11 are the Motorola processors  Version 20 is the Toshiba processor  Version 21 is the Cypress processor

Shrink the SQLite event and trend databases

Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support for assistance. Issue In some cases the event and trend database can grow really big although not all the space in the files is used Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment SQLite Building Operation Enterprise Server Cause Frequent inserts, updates, and deletes can cause the database file to become fragmented - where data for a single table or index is scattered around the database file. Running VACUUM ensures that each table and index is largely stored contiguously within the database file. In some cases, VACUUM may also reduce the number of partially filled pages in the database, reducing the size of the database file further. Read further information here: https://www.sqlite.org/lang_vacuum.html Resolution Stop the Enterprise Server Open SQLiteStudio (link to download) Select "Databases" --> "Add database" Select the event.db or trend.db file from the "historical" folder of the SmartStruxure database folder Execute the following command: vacuum;

TAC Vista Webstation or TAC Xenta Server together with Java 8

Issue Java 8 is only supported together with TAC Vista 5.1.9 Product Line TAC Vista Environment Webstation Xenta Server web Cause The current version was developed and tested together with Java version 7, but not Java version 8 as Java 8 was released subsequently After the latest update of Java (Java 8u31) SSLv3 has been disabled by default in Java. If updating to that version of Java, the Xenta Server web (graphics and schedules) will not work, as the Xenta Server relies on SSLv3. Resolution Making the proper configurations has enabled a number of sites to use Java 8 with the TAC Vista product range. Java 8 is supported for TAC Vista 5.1.9 according to TPA-VSTA-15-0000.03 Refer to this video for settings required: Download video - View on YouTube   The proper settings in Java are: [1] Install the newest version of Java. If you are working on a 64 bit operating system, it's crucial that you install both the x86 and the x64 versions: https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp [2] Make sure all older versions are removed: https://java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp [3] Make sure Java is enabled in your browser: https://java.com/en/download/help/enable_browser.xml [4] Add all addresses to the site exception list in the "Security" tab. Both http and https addresses are needed for Xenta Servers. If a special port is used (not 80 for http and 443 for https), the port needs to be entered, e.g. http://IP_ADDRESS:81 if port 81 is used for HTTP communication. [5] Click "Restore Security Prompts" in the "Security" tab. [6] In some cases you might need to add the IP address of the PC or Xenta Server to trusted sites in Internet Explorer   TAC Xenta Server web uses SSLv3 for Java if high security is set in XBuilder. The workaround for SSLv3 being disabled in Java 8u31 and above is: (read Java's own release note) [1] Edit the following two files: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_31\lib\security\java.security C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_31\lib\security\java.security [2] Scroll down to the last line where it says: jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms=SSLv3 In both files, comment that line so it says: #jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms=SSLv3 [3] Edit the file: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties [4] Add the following line: deployment.security.SSLv3=true

Passing global between StruxureWare Building Operation and the Sigma system

Issue Sigma Transition in StruxureWare Building Operation, where the Sigma controllers and the ES are on different subnets. Globals are not being passed to or from the Sigma system. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, Satchwell Sigma Environment Globals Global values Link addressing Cause This issue is being caused because the Sigma controllers are on a different subnet to the Enterprise server. Sigma global data is passed between controllers using "Broadcast" messages, 192.168.1.255 for instance. These messages are normally stopped by network switches/routers, and are not passed between different subnets. To overcome this, Sigma employs "Link Addressing". For further information on this please review Link Addressing on a Sigma System Resolution As Sigma servers do not make use of the global broadcasts, on a current Sigma system there may not be any Link Addressing in place for the Server subnet, and this will mean that if an ES is placed on that subnet, it will not see any global broadcasts either. When carrying out a Sigma Transition consider if there is a need to pass global data to or from the Sigma system, and if so, add a DNN3 to the subnet and Link Address it..

How to wire an Analog input to an IO Module

Issue What ground connections are required when wiring a voltage input? Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment AS/ AS-P Power Supply AS-B Universal Input Modules 0-10V, 0-5V sensors Cause The required connections are different for isolated and non isolated voltage inputs. Consideration of the system grounding is also required. Resolution If your input sensor is isolated it can be directly connected to the UI and RET terminals of the Universal Input module. An isolated sensor will have 4 terminals (2 power terminals G0 and G, 2 output terminals M and X) the power ground G0 is not directly connected to the output ground M terminal. However for non isolated sensors (usually 3 terminal devices) the signal terminal X will be wired to the UI input, but the sensors signal common G0 should be wired directly to the Signal Ground for the installation, not to the RET terminal of the IO Module. On every Input modules ensure that one RET terminal from the IO Module is wired directly to the Signal Ground. Full details of the required wiring and an example wiring drawing showing isolated and non-isolated voltage inputs can be found in "Wiring" section of the Hardware Reference Guide available on the Download Center or in WebHelp: Wiring.

Issue Upgrading the MPMs firmware through the boot loader was unsuccessful. 10.50.80.2 is pingable, but not the default IP 10.50.80.3. The LED's keep blinking in tandem (alternating one after the other), even after having the MPM powered over 10 seconds. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert Environment SmartStruxure Lite Multi-Purpose Manager Cause This can be triggered by multiple events: - MPM was interrupted (powered off) while the firmware was still being upgraded. - Database does not exist; MPM was formatted and does not have firmware installed. - Database is corrupt (for any reason) Resolution It is strongly recommended that a firmware upgrade be done via the "File Manager" tab in Building Expert. However, if this is not possible, an upgrade can be performed through the bootloader using the following steps: 1 - At the top left part of the screen, make sure "Status" says "Connected". 2 - Format the SD card clicking on the "Submit" button next to "File System Format". "Format Done" will be displayed next to the button once the format has been completed 3 - Click on the "Browse" button and Navigate to the Firmware_update_V2.XX.bp" on your computer then click on "Submit Query". 4 - The previous step will upload the firmware file to the MPM's SD card. Once the file has been transferred, the following message will appear: or 5 - The MPM Must be kept powered-up for at least 15 minutes in order to allow the MPM some time to unpack the firmware file. The best way to determine whether the MPM is back online is to ping its IP address using a "Command Prompt" window. 6 - Once the MPM replies to the ping, Building Expert can be accessible though 10.50.80.3   If the above solution does not work; meaning that every time a new firmware is pushed to the MPM, the MPM keeps coming back to the bootloader, contact technical support

Error - Upgrade using DFU mode system alarm AS status LED red

Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support Services for assistance. Issue AS status LED solid red for a few seconds followed by a quick blink. Device administrator and/or event log shows system alarm ..."Error - Upgrade using DFU mode"  Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Automation Server, AS, ASP, ASB Building Operation Device Administrator Building Operation WorkStation Cause The indication of "Error – Upgrade using DFU mode" occurs due to the fact that a possible problem with writing to the file system has been detected when booting the system. This error can be seen in WorkStation as an Alarm Event, in the Server Logs, or in Device Administrator. Nosync errors are usually seen in the system log. The configuration of the system could have been compromised as a result, although the issue is not necessarily fatal and therefore the AS is allowed to run and the situation is indicated via the red status light. A system alarm is also generated as a warning as seen in the screenshot above. Resolution Since the AS file system could have been compromised, it must be re-initialized from scratch. To clear the red light: Make sure a backup of the AS is available. Attach the Device Administrator to the AS via USB and put the AS in DFU mode (press the reset button 3 times in rapid succession) Install a new database Once the AS has had its FW and database reinstalled, restore the backup using Workstation. NOTES See Error – Upgrade Using DFU Mode  If this error occurs, especially if it occurs multiple times on the same server, check the site installation include Grounding/Earthing and power supplies and for possible EMC issues (Electromagnetic Compatibility)

Automation Server IP protection. Measures in the AS to protect the system in cases of network broadcast storm or DoS attacks.

Issue What are the measures in the AS to protect the system in cases of network broadcast storm or Denial of Service attacks? Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Automation Server Premium Building Operation Automation Server Cause Offline alarms received after excessive network traffic observed. Resolution The firmware in the AS will temporarily shut down its Ethernet connection when exposed to a broadcast storm or DoS attack in order to protect the application in terms of control programs and IO. A side effect of this is that the communication to external IP devices is temporarily unavailable during the storm/attack. The Automation Server will log the network storm event in its log journal file. (see screenshot below)
