Configuring inputs on Xenta 421A or 451A when using the controller as a stand alone Lonworks node

Issue Using the Xenta 421A, 422A, 451A or 452A I/O modules as a stand alone Lonworks node and all values are reading the default 0. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, Field Devices, TAC Vista Environment Xenta I/O Modules Xenta 400, 421A, 422A, 451A, 452A as stand alone LON nodes Cause The Xenta 421A and Xenta 451A as stand alone Lonworks node require the UCPTConfiguration to be set to the necessary integer value for the required input. Resolution Please see the supporting documentation for the TAC Xenta 421A/422A and TAC Xenta 451A/452A that gives each nci value for the needed input type. To configure each input to the correct type please follow these steps: Navigate to the node in your Lonworks network management software (Lonmaker, NL220, Tridium, Etc.) Browse / Edit the controller to view all of the inputs, outputs, and configuration properties. Find the Universal Input module for the input you need to configure, and locate the UCPTConfigInput variable within that module Set this UCPTConfigInput variable to one of the following: 1 = 1.8 kohm thermistor 2 = DI with green indication 3 = 0-10 vdc 4 = 0-20 mA 5 = 10 kohm thermistor 6 = DI with red indication 7 = DI with green inverted indication 8 = DI with red inverted indication NOTE: This is normally done in Menta when you are using these controllers as I/O modules to a Xenta 401, Xenta 301, Xenta 302 base unit.  The scan time of all inputs is (200ms * number of inputs used).  So if there are 3 inputs, the complete module will have been scanned every 600ms.

Configuring a Current Input

Issue How to connect and configure current inputs to a UI module? Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation I/O Module 16 Ch UI (UI-16) Building Operation I/O Module 8 Ch UI/4 Ch DO (Form C) (UI8-DO-FC-4) Building Operation I/O Module 8 Ch UI/4 Ch AO (UI8-AO-4, UI-8/AO-V-4) Building Operation MP-C, MP-V, RP-C, IP-IO Cause How are Current inputs connected and configured? Resolution To connect and configure a current input to a SmartX device no additional external resistors are required, the internal resistor in the SmartX device is automatically put into the circuit by selecting "Current Input" when creating the input object, there are no DIP switches to change as in some other products. An external Power supply will be required to provide the current in the circuit through the sensor and into the UI input. 24V DC supplies are usually used to power the sensor & provide the current drive. Further information regarding the SmartX device's internal resistor can be found in the Hardware Reference Guide. Example Circuit: The input point configuration allows you to define the top and bottom or the current scale (usually 4-20mA or 0-20mA) and the engineering units this corresponds to i.e. 0-100% or 0 - 400 DegC. Configuring Security Expert Readers

Issue Configuring Security Expert Readers Product Line EcoStruxure Security Expert Environment Security Expert Smart Card Readers Cause Security Expert Smart Card Readers have options such as Mifare Reading Mode, LED colors, etc. that can be configured. How the readers are configured will depend on the reader's firmware. Resolution The method used to configure a Security Expert Smart Card Reader depends on the firmware version it is using. There is no way to visually determine the firmware version. To identify what firmware the reader was shipped with from the factory refer to Knowledge Base article Identifying Security Expert Smart Card Readers Firmware. 1. Smart Card Readers with firmware below build 200 - (I.e. 1.04.64) These are older readers which were configured with a serial terminal program by connecting to the reader using a USB-RS485 converter. Please refer to the 'Installer Programming' section of the attached Smart Card Reader Installation Manual - Feb 2017. This has been replaced by a newer version of the manual on Exchange which no longer includes this information. 2. Smart Card Readers with firmware build 200 or above (I.e. 1.04.229) These newer readers do not have a serial interface and will require a configuration card to change reader options. The configuration card (SX-ISO-CONFIG) is ordered from Schneider Electric, see the Security Expert Credentials Order Form for details.

Computer hardware requirements for Continuum Cyberstation

Issue What is the latest specification For a Continuum PC Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Cyberstation SQL Server Cause Computer specification required. Resolution The PC specifications for a version does not change from the time of release, so there is no "Latest Specification" as such. For all versions the hardware requirements are defined in the installation guide (Installation.PDF) on the software CD, or in the downloaded zip file from The Exchange Download Center for the version to be used. This document will contain the minimum and recommended specification required for that Cyberstation version on a typical site, if any other software is to be installed on the computer or the computer is to be heavily loaded; the requirements should be increased accordingly. The same RAM and Processor requirements will also apply to the SQL Server on a typical LAN system. You also need to check the Software and Firmware compatibility matrix for older versions of the traditional product lines for details on the compatible operating system requirements for the version to be used. For a V2.01 system the recommended hardware for servers and workstations are: Intel 8 Cores, 2 GHz or better 8Gb RAM 30Gb Available HDD space (NTFS Partition) CD ROM Drive Video resolution: 1024 x 768 pixels Parallel or USB port For larger systems and where there will be a lot of Extended logging or Alarming, the Hard drive, RAM size and processor speed should be increased.

Clear the memory of an MR

Issue How can I clear the memory of an MR? Environment MR Cause If an MR with a database is given a new address using the dip switches, the DDC, I/STAT parameters and points remain in its memory. Resolution The only way truly clear the memory is to use an I/STAT or M/STAT: Enter the service mode Re-enter the address or communication speed. Changing these parameters can work but be careful not to leave the speed at anything other than 9600. Refer to the I/STAT instructions in TCON 126 or TCON 130 for instructions on service mode operations.

Clarification on how to wire Form A and Form K Triac outputs on i2/b3 865/866-V controllers.

Issue Clarification on how to wire Form A and Form K Triac outputs on i285-V / b3865-V controllers. Environment i2865-V b3865-V i2866-V b3866-V i2865-V-S b3865-V-S i2866-V-S b3866-V-S Cause Had issues in the past with blown Triac outputs due to wiring, need to confirm how they are properly wired for Form A and Form K Triac outputs. Resolution As per 30-3001-810 i2 b3 865-866 Controller Installation Instructions (see page 5), you can configure your Triac so they switch the 24VAC (hot) or the GND (ground), but all Triac outputs must be configured the same. The difference between the Form A and the Form K is that the Form A is two digital outputs using a single triac each while the Form K is a single tristate output using both physical triacs for the one (logical) output. The Form A Triac outputs can be configured as either a hot or ground switch but the Form K must be configured as a ground switch (TRIAC REF tied to GND, Load to 24VAC).

Checklist for maintaining or servicing a typical Continuum installation

Issue Checklist to be used as a basis for Maintenance visits. Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Continuum Hardware Continuum Software Cause Having a checklist available for routine maintenance will help with service calls to ensure Continuum sites continue to run smoothly over the life of the installation. Resolution There is no official maintenance checklist but some of the things you might want to consider checking on a regular basis are the items below. Continuum Analyzer Run the tests which check the database for known issues and provides a results file. See How to run Continuum Analyzer and get a report.   Review Windows Event Logs Check the Application and System Event logs for Continuum or SQL related errors. See Viewing, Saving, Sharing Windows Event Logs for Troubleshooting Purposes.   Check the size of the ContinuumDB The Database can't be more than 2GB in MSDE, 4GB in SQL Express, and the size of available space on the drive if using full SQL Server. Continuum will always run better when the database is kept trim, as the database size grows, Continuum transactions may start to slow down. If general system slowness is observed then check the database size and SQL Server resources first.   Truncate/trim event tables in ContinuumDB Especially the ExtendedLog table which can grow very rapidly if not kept in check. See Set up a Continuum system to do automatic log truncation to save database space.   Check that the Continuum Workstation is patched and up to date Periodically service packs and hotfixes are released for different versions of Continuum to resolve identified issues. Consult The Exchange Download Center for the current updates. Service Packs | Hotfixes   Check that Controller Firmware is up to date Check that the Controller firmware versions are supported for your version of Continuum and that they are up to date. Same as service packs for Continuum, new firmware builds are released as issues are identified and resolved. You can find supported firmware for each version of Continuum in the Compatibility Matrix. See Software and Firmware compatibility matrix for older versions of I/NET, Vista, Andover Continuum, Satchwell Sigma, I/A Series, and StruxureWare Building Operation. And new firmware updates are available on Exchange Extranet.   Check battery charges On controllers that have them, check that the battery for holding up the active RAM still has a charge. How to check -> Battery life in Andover Continuum controllers that have onboard batteries Replacement batteries -> Replacement batteries for the various Continuum controllers   Run the Continuum Errors listviews to see if there are any recurring errors that may need to be investigated.   Most Importantly - Backup the ContinuumDB before leaving site! Backup and restore instructions for a single-user system are below but these also apply to full SQL Server using Management Studio. Steps 1 and 2 in the article below apply to backing up a ContinuumDB. See Move / Backup / Restore a database on a Single User SQL2005 Express system.

Characteristics of priority zero (0) alarms in Vista

Issue It may be useful to have logic in Menta programs trigger an event in Vista so that it can be recorded and stored in the event log. Environment Vista Workstation Menta Cause Alarms that have the Priority parameter set to 0 are used for info purposes only and only show in the event viewer and not the alarm viewer (queue). Resolution Events can be triggered by a Menta program by creating an Alarm block in Menta and setting the Priority parameter to zero. This causes the alarm to only function as an event and keeps it from showing up in the alarm queue. The following is taken from the Menta Technical Manual: The alarm priority is specified with the Priority parameter. There are 10 levels, 1 to 9 and 0, where 1 is the highest. Events with priority 0 (Information messages) have the lowest priority. They are not placed in the alarm database of TAC Vista and do not appear in the alarm overview. An example where using a priority zero alarm might be useful is to record as an event whenever an air handler enables and disables its economizer. This would be done as follows: 1. An ALARM block is created and named EVENTS\ECONOMIZER_ENBL. The Priority parameter is set to 0. Alarm Control is set to the standard alarm control object which is $Alr_Cntrl. The Tripped Alarm text is set as "ECONOMIZER ENABLED" and the Reset Alarm text is set as "ECONOMIZER DISABLED". 2. The ALARM block is then connected to the Economizer function. Now an event will be generated each time the economizer is enabled and disabled but an alarm will never pop up in the alarm viewer. An Events Viewer object could now be created to make it easier to view just economizer events without everything else. This is done as follows: In Vista Workstation right click the Root object and select New > Object > Viewer - Events. Type in a description and enter the Object ID of the economizer event that has been created. This can be found by locating an instance of the economizer event in the standard event viewer and copying the Object ID from there. The event viewer could be set up to display all priority 0 alarms instead of one specific event type by entering a 0 in Priorities in the Alarms section under the Event Specifics tab. The amount of time displayed in the event viewer can be filtered under the Date and Time tab. It may be useful to remove unneeded columns from the new event viewer so that only the relevant information will be displayed. In this example everything is unselected except Time, Object ID and Text under the Select Column(s) tab. The event viewer will automatically update and could be used for real-time monitoring of whatever event(s) it has been configured to display.

Changing the default community password in Netcontrollers

Issue The question is sometimes is asked if the default passwords (community strings) for Public and Private can be changed in Netcontrollers Environment Netcontrollers (BCX, 9680, 99xx) Cause Sites want to change the default Community strings for better security Resolution The option to change the community string password is only available if the controller is enabled for snmp alarming. If the controller is at the default with only snmp access to be shown in a Network Management System, the ability to change the default community string name is not available. In that case, the default community strings passwords have to be used. Once the snmp alarming options is enabled on the controller then the following instructions can be used. There is a place in the configuration page of the Netcontroller called snmp alarm configuration. On that page there are options for the snmp communities (public/private) for Gets and Sets. There are fields there with the default passwords of ‘Public’ for Gets and ‘Private’ for Sets. These can be changed to an 8 character word. This password would then need to be matched within the Network Management Software (NMS) to do the gets and sets. See page 19 of Andover Continuum v1.9 SNMP Configuration Guide for information on setting these passwords.

Changing Security Expert readers from RS-485 to Wiegand

Issue A Security Expert reader that supports Wiegand and RS-485 is wired for Wiegand. It is not working. It only works on RS-485. Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Smart Card Readers which support both 125Khz and 13.56Mhz (SX-DRD-xx, SX-DRK-xx, SX-RK-xx) Warning Hazard of Electric Shock: Remove all power from all devices before removing any covers or doors of the system. Disconnect power at the device and at the power source. Electrostatic Discharge Required: Always discharge static electricity from your person by touching metal prior to handling any hardware. Failure to do so may result in damage to devices. Cause Tried to use a Smart Card Reader wired for Wiegand after it had been connected by RS-485 to the controller. Resolution Once a Security Expert Smart Card Reader is used in an RS-485 configuration it will not work in Wiegand configuration until it has been re-programmed with a configuration card designed for that purpose. The configuration card  (SX-ISO-CONFIG) must be purchased through Schneider Electric. See the Security Expert Credentials Order Form for details.   This is because RS-485 is a two-way communication, intelligent wiring protocol. Once the reader is set in this two-way communication mode there is currently no way, without the configuration card, to go back to a less intelligent one-way mode like Wiegand.   Note: Readers manufactured in 2017 or before may have a firmware version that uses a configuration mode that will not respond to a configuration card. If you contact Schneider Electric for a configuration card, supply the serial number (SN) from the back of the reader on your request.

If there were multiple Evaluation Licenses assigned to an email address, all but one of those licenses have been deleted and are no longer usable. Resolution Contact your local support channel with your known Evaluation License SSN's and email address to have the valid license identified. If the license period needs to be extended or transferred to a new machine this can also be accomplished, see Transferring Security Expert licenses from one PC to another Please note: Support cannot alter the registered email address.  A new Evaluation License Request will have to be made for each required license.

Change the firmware version in a Continuum controller

Issue How to change the firmware version in a controller. Product Line Andover Continuum Environment All flash-upgradeable controllers: CX9900, CX9940, ACX5720, ACX5740, all i2, b3, and bCX controllers.  Cause Controller firmware needs to be changed. Resolution Locate the firmware version that you need for each controller you want to change. The Continuum firmware files can be downloaded from the Schneider Electric Ecobuilding Exchange. The downloaded files are often a zip file which includes the release notes in PDF format and the flash file (UPD file). Note: You may need to upgrade or downgrade firmware (see also Is a controller shipped from the factory with the latest firmware revision supported in older versions of Continuum?) Make sure you check the document Andover Continuum Software and Firmware Compatibility Matrix for the appropriate firmware version for your system.   Copy the file to a disk drive accessible to your CyberStation workstation. Edit the controller object in ContinuumExplorer and click on the "Update OS" button. Browse to the file location in step 2 and click "Open". A progress box "Updating Controller OS..." will appear. During this time the controller is reset and not functional.  Once complete, and if successful, you will get  a dialog box indicating that the upload was successful and the controller will return On-Line momentarily. Click OK. Click the refresh button in the controller editor. Once the controller is on-line the version field should indicate the new version. At this point some controllers may need a reload, others will be reloaded from flash memory. This depends on the controller type. For example, the CX9900 has no flash memory and therefore will need to be reloaded. This procedure also applies to upgrading controller options such as adding Xdriver support. In this case a UPD file will be provided by the Repair Dept. In the case of added Xdriver support, after doing the Update OS procedure the version will not change. Look at the controller Options tab after it comes back online following the upgrade. The information here, such as a non-zero entry in the numbers next to the appropriate Xdriver Commport will be changed. The above procedure was based on an IP level controller such as the CX, bCX and ACX II. Infinet and MSTP controllers are done in a similar manner. IOU models are also upgraded similarly via the "Update IOU" button in the IOUModule editor. However, the files are .IOU files instead of .UPD files and the versions are in the fourth pair of characters in the Program ID field.
