Change the firmware version in a Continuum controller

Issue How to change the firmware version in a controller. Product Line Andover Continuum Environment All flash-upgradeable controllers: CX9900, CX9940, ACX5720, ACX5740, all i2, b3, and bCX controllers.  Cause Controller firmware needs to be changed. Resolution Locate the firmware version that you need for each controller you want to change. The Continuum firmware files can be downloaded from the Schneider Electric Ecobuilding Exchange. The downloaded files are often a zip file which includes the release notes in PDF format and the flash file (UPD file). Note: You may need to upgrade or downgrade firmware (see also Is a controller shipped from the factory with the latest firmware revision supported in older versions of Continuum?) Make sure you check the document Andover Continuum Software and Firmware Compatibility Matrix for the appropriate firmware version for your system.   Copy the file to a disk drive accessible to your CyberStation workstation. Edit the controller object in ContinuumExplorer and click on the "Update OS" button. Browse to the file location in step 2 and click "Open". A progress box "Updating Controller OS..." will appear. During this time the controller is reset and not functional.  Once complete, and if successful, you will get  a dialog box indicating that the upload was successful and the controller will return On-Line momentarily. Click OK. Click the refresh button in the controller editor. Once the controller is on-line the version field should indicate the new version. At this point some controllers may need a reload, others will be reloaded from flash memory. This depends on the controller type. For example, the CX9900 has no flash memory and therefore will need to be reloaded. This procedure also applies to upgrading controller options such as adding Xdriver support. In this case a UPD file will be provided by the Repair Dept. In the case of added Xdriver support, after doing the Update OS procedure the version will not change. Look at the controller Options tab after it comes back online following the upgrade. The information here, such as a non-zero entry in the numbers next to the appropriate Xdriver Commport will be changed. The above procedure was based on an IP level controller such as the CX, bCX and ACX II. Infinet and MSTP controllers are done in a similar manner. IOU models are also upgraded similarly via the "Update IOU" button in the IOUModule editor. However, the files are .IOU files instead of .UPD files and the versions are in the fourth pair of characters in the Program ID field.

Cannot learn in B3 controllers

Issue Trying to add B3 controllers to BCX and they are not coming online. Product Line Andover Continuum Environment BCX 4040 Continuum 1.9X B3XXX  controllers Cause BacNet wiring can not be in a star configuration. There can not be more than two terminating 120 Ohm resistors. Resolution The Bus must be wired in series with end line 120 Ohm resistors. Install a B-Link if the bus path cannot be wired in series. Please see the BacNet Technical Reference manual for wiring examples.

Can the xPBA4 module support a 4-20 mA output with the addition of a resistor circuit?

Issue Have a device that requires a 4-20 mA current signal to drive it but only have a 0-10Vdc output available. Can this be accomplished with a resistor bridge on the 0-10Vdc output?  Environment xpBA4 Cause The xPBA4 does not support driving a current output by default. Resolution It does not look like those outputs will be able to support a 20mA signal. The datasheet does not specify this but looking at another controller with a similar output, the i2867, we can see that the output rating for the 0-10Vdc output is 5mA maximum, 2Kohm minimum impedance. This would not be enough to drive a 4-20mA device. It may be possible to get a third party voltage to current convertor but then again it may just be easier to use one of the xPAO4's that already supports a 4-20mA output. I suggest using an xPAO4. The xPAO4 module can output current as well as voltage. The module has three pins on each output terminal; current (I), voltage (V), and ground (GND). It can output both 0-10VDC as well as 4-20mA. Connect your device that needs 4-20mA to the I and GND terminal and create your output with an ElecType set to Current. See datasheet Andover Continuum xP Expansion I/O Family for details on each available module.

Can a schedule in a bCX1-CR be changed by another BACnet/IP Workstation such as Citec SCADA?

Issue Need to be able to change any schedule inside a bCX1-CR from another BacNet/IP workstation like Citec SCADA. Environment BACnet bCX1-CR Citec SCADA Cause It is a project requirement to change schedules in a bCX-CR1 from a third party BACnet workstation. Is this possible? Resolution The answer to your question is not a simple yes/no. Please see page 8 of Product Implementation Conformance Statement bCX1-CR It describes the "writable" properties of the schedule objects in the bCX1-CR v4.5. Make sure that the BACnet workstation (B-OWS) that you wish to use to edit schedules in the bCX1-CR v4.5 supports (in its PICS) the properties that your customer needs to be able to edit. For example, from the linked PICS, it appears the Next_Transition_Time is not writable in the bCX1-CR v4.5. If this is a property that your customer requires the Citec SCADA to edit in the bCX1-CR v4.5 then there may be a problem. Since we do not provide support for Citec SCADA we cannot say whether or not it will work. You will need to talk to Citec or make a judgment based on their PICS.

Can LONMark Devices be used with Continuum?

Issue If it is possible, what is the best way to integrate LONMark devices to Continuum? Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Continuum Netcontroller CX9900, CX9940, Netcontroller II CX9680 Echelon LON X Driver, XDriver, X-Driver LONMark, SNVTs, Bridge, Gateway Cause Clarification required on LON compatibility. Resolution FTT Versions of both the Netcontroller and Netcontroller II can be configured to communicate with 3rd party LONMark devices. You need to use the 1 st generation or 2 nd generation X Driver file respectively for these controllers. The FTT-10 port Comm16 has to be selected to be in LONMark X Driver mode, this is done in the Web page or the HyperTerminal Window connection. Once in LONMark mode you can not connect any IO Modules to the controller. The LONMark X Driver allows data to be mapped between the Continuum system and a LONMark Network. You create X Driver points in the Netcontroller II defining the SNVTs they will be seen as in the LON system. You then will need to design a LON Network that will consist of the NCII LON port (Comm16) and the other LON Devices to be connected. This network will need to be designed using the correct LON cabling and terminations. You will need a PC with appropriate NIC card to run the Lonmaker 3.2 software or the NL220 software to design your LON network and create all of the bindings between the different devices. The LON X Driver will act as a bridge between the LON and the Continuum networks. Both Lonmaker 3.2 and NL220 can be ordered through Schneider Electric along with any LON routing devices that may be required in the LON network design, these parts will be in the Vista product catalogues and price lists. Details of the configuration of the X Driver points are detailed in the LONMark X Driver User Guide. The Latest Echelon LonMark X Driver software for the FTT Netcontrollers can be downloaded from The Exchange Download Center. Note: Unlike other X Drivers, the LONMark driver does not require a port to be X Driver enabled to operate.

64-bit operating systems with the Andover Continuum product line

Issue Are 64-bit operating systems supported on the Andover Continuum product line? Product Line Andover Continuum Environment CyberStation webClient Cause Compatibility requirements for Andover Continuum with 64-bit operating systems Resolution Release 1.93 and earlier: For all machines with CyberStation or webClient software installed, only operating systems running in 32-bit environments are supported. 64-bit environments are not supported.  However, for the Database Server on a LAN system where no Cyberstation or webClient software is installed, a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 (SP2) or Windows Server 2008 R2 may be used on systems running V1.92 and above. These will also require Microsoft SQL 2008 running in 64-bit mode. Release 1.94 and later: Release 1.94 supports 64-bit Operating Systems, however, Microsoft recommends the 32-bit version of Office 2010 because it prevents potential compatibility issues with other 32-bit applications, specifically third-party add-ins that are available only for 32-bit operating systems. Please refer to the release notes for compatibility notes in specific versions.

Working principle of the Bond Sensor Input

Issue Will the Bond Sensor Input Channel contribute to the Door Forced and Door Ajar alarms? If so, does it have to be in conjunction with the Door Switch Input Channel? Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Continuum Access Control Products CX9900 CX9680 Continuum AC-1 IO Module  AC1A, AC1Plus ACX5720, ACX5740 CX9702 ACX781 Cause Not sure how the Bond Sensor works in relation to the Door Switch and the various Door Alarm states. Resolution BondFailure is an attribute of the Door object that represents a fault with the Bond Sensor. The way this works is if Valid Access = True and the Door Switch = Open and the Bond Sensor = Open, then BondFailure = False. If Valid Access = False or the system sees the Door Switch = Closed but the Bond Sensor = Open then you will get a BondFailure = True. This is another attribute (BondFailure) that can be monitored with an AlarmEnrollment in addition to the DoorForced and DoorAjar attributes. A Door Switch needs to be used for the Bond Sensor to operate correctly, otherwise BondFailure will always be False after a ValidAccess if there is no Door Switch value. Note: The actual value of the BondSensor attribute in the Door object may not seem to update properly if monitoring with a ListView. For this to show the correct BondSensor value make sure that the attribute Source is set to "Live" instead of the default "Database". Note2: A bond senor (usually an output from a maglock) should not be used as an alternative to a door switch, as it does not give indication of the door position.

Information about the number of socket connections Modbus TCP/IP uses to interface with other gateway / devices

Issue Does Modbus TCP/IP xDriver opens socket connection per each device or the gateway of the devices? Product Line Andover Continuum Environment NetController - CX9900, CX9940, CX9680. Continuum bCX9640 (Infinet) Continuum bCX4040 (BACnet) Cause As some Modbus TCP/IP gateways have the limitation of maximum TCP/IP connections, if Modbus TCP/IP xDriver opens a socket per modbus device and keeps it open, the gateway might run into a problem due to the limited number of socket connections. Resolution The Modbus TCP/IP xDriver opens one(1) socket connection per server not device. So for a gateway that has a number of devices, the Modbus TCP/IP xDriver only uses one(1) socket connection.

Error on login to the webClient: "Max user connections has been reached"

Issue Error on login to the webClient: "Max user connections has been reached" Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Continuum webClient Cause webClient support up to 5 users simultaneously. Resolution Make sure the key is enabled for webClient. Make sure all the DCom settings are set correctly. Make sure the IIS and WebClient software was not installed through a remote terminal service type of software. If this was done they will need to uninstall the IIS, WebClient, etc… and then go directly on the server and re-install the software. Make sure the IIS server was not rebooted through a remote terminal service application and then subsequently logged on through remote a terminal service. If this is done they will need to go directly on the IIS server and reboot it while physically on the machine. Verify how many users are actually logged on. Should not display something like 5 / 5. In this case you “have” exceeded the maximum and one user must log off. Users typically run into this on standalone systems where the key is configured for two users and the person shuts down the browser and neglects to log off. Users are NOT disconnected in this case until the 20 minute session timeout occurs. In this state the administrator can close the ACWebServerProxy dialog to disconnect ALL users with one click.
