How to configure Modbus TCP-IP Xdriver for CLIENT or SERVER operation.

Issue  The Modbus TCP-IP XDriver can function as either a TCP Client or a TCP Server but not both at the same time. Environment Cyberstation Continuum Controllers Cause Documentation Resolution  It is the XDriver points themselves that define the mode of the driver, in every point created, Parameter 2 should be set to either “0” for Client Mode OR to “1” for Server mode. You can’t use both in one driver. ALSO, in Client mode you need to create the Remote Device Status point, one per server, but it is Parameter 2 in the points that determines the client/ Server mode. QUESTION: If the XDriver can only operate in one mode (client or server) why does each point need to be configured with the mode type? ANSWER: There is a historical reason for this, the original design envisioned the support of both client and server points simultaneously, but for reasons that are well beyond the scope of this article this was changed to support only one mode at a time.

Setting up ID Works on a Remote Client PC

Issue Setting up ID Works on a Remote Client PC Product Line TAC INET Environment I/NET Seven ID Works Windows XP Windows 7 32-bit Windows 7 64-bit Cause Configuring the I/NET System to be a “Server/Remote Client” format and the ID Works software is going to be on a Remote Client PC. Resolution The first procedure is to modify the ODBC Data Source. The steps for this are very dependent upon the PC's operating system. Reference page 2-14 through 2-23 of TCON 301, the chapter named Modifying TAC I/NET Seven's ODBC Data Source.  Once the ODBC Data Source is configured, proceed with the steps below: Go into the ID Works Administrator Editor and select the System tab. Scroll down to the Photo Path option. Direct the current path to the PC that is going to be the Server. In this example, the PCs Name and Photo location is: \\TPServer\CDrive\I7photos   Go into the ID Works Designer Editor open each of the site badge templates and modify them for the Server PC link. Open one of the templates. Highlight the Image path square and do a right mouse click. Go to the Field Properties option. Set the path to the Server PC location for the badge photos. See the example below for further information.   In this example the server PC is named TPServer. Badge photos are in the C:\I7photos\Thumbnail directory. There are only eight pictures entered at the time these captures were made. The jpegs for those eight individuals were saved to the folder using the CardNumber as the name shown below:

Using multiple monitors in Building Operation WorkStation

Issue How to use multiple monitors when working in Building Operation WorkStation. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Multiple Monitors Building Operation WorkStation Cause Need to understand how to utilize multiple monitors with Building Operation WorkStation available as an option from version 1.4.1 and above. Resolution Building Operation Workstation provides the ability to place any pane in WorkStation on a separate monitor including the alarm, watch, and event windows. This can be a very productive feature for a building front-end computer or even in the engineering stages of the system. Versions 1.4.1 and above The multi-monitor display support in WorkStation includes the ability to save and reset workspace layouts. Individual users at a given WorkStation can modify the workspace layout and save it such that whenever that user logs in using that PC the workspace will revert to their modified layout. Included in the modified layout is the ability to move panes to a second monitor and have those panes positioned in the same way whenever that user logs in with that PC. The user can revert to the default layout at any time. How to move WorkStation panes to a second monitor Click, hold and drag the title bar (1) of any pane in WorkStation that is to be moved to another monitor. The pane will appear as a purple shadow (2).  Drag the pane to another monitor, release and re-size as necessary (3).    How to save the workspace layout for the current user At the top of the WorkStation window, click on the View menu (1) and select "Save workspace layout" (2).  When the same user logs out and then logs back in again, the layout will remain the same. To return the layout to the default, go to the View menu and select "Reset workspace layout". Note: When working with a two-monitor layout using a laptop on a docking station, if the laptop is undocked it will no longer be possible to see the panes that were moved to the second monitor.  To correct this go to the View menu and select "Reset workspace layout".     Versions 1.4.0 and prior It is possible to use WorkStation and WebStation on multiple monitors in prior releases: Launch multiple instances of the clients and run them on different monitors. In WorkStation, “Tear off” view windows and position on different monitors. Manual positioning of windows is needed.  To get more automatic behavior at start-up or logon, it is better to run with multiple computers with separate displays or see if a 3rd party window positioning utility can help.

How to save array information to a Database so that values are not lost when reloaded

Issue When reloading array points (a numeric configured as a manual log) the array values are not restored and default back to a NULL state until set. How can this information be saved into the Database so that it can be restored when the controller or point is reloaded? Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Continuum Cyberstation Continuum Controllers Cause All the array values are not saved to the Database when the setpoint flag on the numeric is set, this will only save the current value of the numeric to the database. The array entries are only stored in the controller and are therefore lost when the controller is reloaded. Resolution The SAVE command can be used to save controllers / objects to the database. This can be used in a PE program to backup a points array data to the SQL Database. One very big note on this is that this will only work with IP level controllers and will not work on i2 or b3 controllers. Create a Program in a Workstation and use the following command to save and overwrite a numeric (including its array information) to the database. For more information on the syntax, consult the online help and search for "SAVE". SAVE \network1\ctrl1\num_array -o You still need to ensure the Setpoint flag check box is selected for the numeric array.

White space or blank screen when first launching webclient from a browser

Issue Using the correct URL to launch webclient and there is only white space Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Webclient Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows Server 2003 Windows Server 2008 Cause ActiveX controls were not installed from the Server onto the browser PC. Certain versions of browser (IE8) disable unsigned activex controls which we use for webclient Resolution It is possible that if this is happening on a domain that there is a group policy in place restricting access. Try the browser on the webClient PC or a laptop directly connected to the webClient PC. Check the compatibility matrix to see if the version of your browsers are supported with that version of webClient. Ensure the Activex controls were installed Turn Off Pop-up blocker.  Internet Explorer> Tools>Turn Off Pop-up blocker Internet Explorer> Tools> Internet Options> Security> Select the correct Zone (i.e. Internet, Local, trusted). Click Custom Level button Select Enable for Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls Select Enable or Prompt for Download signed ActiveX controls Select Enable or Prompt for Download unsigned ActiveX controls Click OK, OK Close Internet Explorer and try again. If it is still not working, clear the cache (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260897) and try again. If the PC is 64 bit and the webclient version is not 1.94 and above, that could also cause this. In extreme cases removing and reinstalling .net, IIS and webclient may be necessary. Verify that the version of SQL Server is compliant with the version of Continuum that is being used. Ex. SQL Server 2000 with SP3 (instead of SP4) isn't compatible with webclient 1.93 Check Removal of MS KB2858725 Dot Net 4.5.1 causes issues with Web Servers IIS Functions related to .Net 4.5 Reinstall webclient Lastly, a reformat of the hard drive an complete reinstall. Note: If the white space happens in just the personnel area and this is 1.74 remove .net version greater than version 2 In IE 9 and IE10 use compatibility mode IE11 is not currently not supported in a 1.94 SP1 ** Webclient 2.0 new alarmview is blocked by IE setting "Block pop-ups" ** If you receive "Internet Explorer blocked a popup from webClient IIS" after logging into webclient then turn of the pop-up blocker for this or all sites. How to change the update rate for variables read from an OPC server in Vista server.

Issue How to change the update rate for variables read from an OPC server in Vista server.  Vista in this case is running as the OPC client and therefore determines the request rate from the OPC server. Environment Vista 5.1.X OPC client (built in in Vista) 3rd party OPC server. Cause To optimise communication loads and efficiency it may be desirable to set the update interval for values read from an OPC server. A user may wish to reduce the update from a couple of milliseconds to 1 minute for example for values that don't fluctuate that much. Resolution The default value (which can be found on the Properties tab for the OPC server object in Vista under "Requested Update rate (ms) ) is set to 0ms. This is effectively "update as often as possible" and the actual update rate can be seen under the "Actual Update rate" property. To select another update interval, simply set "Requested Update Rate (ms)" to the desired value.

Personnel with area link schedules fail to distribute to all Controllers if they are not on the same logical network.

Issue Personnel with area link schedules fail to distribute to all Controllers if they are not on the same logical network. Environment Continuum Cyberstation CX9900 CX9680 CX9702 ACX5720 / ACX5740 Cause The Continuum Access Control system is not designed to allow Areas to cross logical networks. An object from one network is not able to be referenced in another network. When trying to share area link schedules across networks, the data can not be shared and the personnel with those links are not distributed down to all controllers.  Resolution The solution for this is a user workaround where the access control site is re-designed so that there are no longer areas that span multiple networks. EXAMPLE: Suppose we have an installation with sites in NYC and LA, two logical networks have been created in the Continuum db, NYC_Acme and LA_Acme, access to the different areas is controlled by personnel schedules and the requirement is that the users have the same access whether they are working in New York or Los Angeles. The solution is to create two sets of areas and two sets of schedule points, such as.... NY_Lobby, NY_Lab, NY_Cafeteria, these areas will be associated with the doors that are physically located at the New York city location. LA_Lobby, LA_Lab, LA_Cafeteria, these areas will be associated with the doors that are physically located at the Los Angeles location.  NY_LobbySCH, NY_LabSCH, NY_CafeteriaSCH, these schedule points are created in one of the controllers under the NYC_Acme network and assigned ONLY to the set of areas specifically created for the New York location so that everything is contained within the logical network. In the same way, LA_LobbySCH, LA_LabSCH, LA_CafeteriaSCH are to be created and used within the LA_Acme network.

TAC Xenta Server SNMP settings - Changing and disabling

Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support Services for assistance. Issue There is no clear guidance on how to handle the SNMP settings for TAC Xenta Servers Product Line TAC Vista Environment TAC Xenta Server TAC XBuilder SNMP Cause Previously the SNMP feature has not been widely used and has not been a security concern. There are two types or flavors of SNMP. One is for browsing a device to get information about it (SNMP Agent), and the other is to automatically send alarms from a given device to a central alarm system (SNMP Alarm Trap). Now according to reports from the field, IT departments are starting to get concerned about the SNMP feature in Xenta Servers. A general overview of how SNMP can be used maliciously for intrusion can be studied here. Normally the IT department requests that: The default community string is changed SNMP is disabled Here is an example of what you see when you browse a Xenta Server (having the correct Xenta Server mib file) using a SNMP browser such as "MIB Browser" from iReasoning Here is an example of alarms received from a Xenta Server via SNMP Resolution All (or most) SNMP settings are changed through TAC XBuilder First step is to change the default community name. If the community name is either "private" or "public" (the latter is default), it can be browsed without knowing the name. You simply change the name in "Community Name" and "Trap Community Name". Download all project files to the Xenta Server afterwards. Now when you try to browse the Xenta Server from the SNMP agent without first defining the community name, you will not be able to retrieve data. Next, we can disable the SNMP Alarm Trap. Download all project files to the Xenta Server afterwards. After that, alarms will not be sent to the IP address configured. Following here are advanced steps to change the ports used for SNMP (161 and 162) If the settings described above are not enough, we can change the port number used for SNMP. This is however a little more complicated. You need to connect to the Xenta Server using FTP (Note that the FTP access may be disabled, refer to Disable FTP in the Xenta 5/7/9xx Controllers if unsure how to enable this), and fetch the following file: /sys/system/snmp.cfg Open the file in Notepad Change the two port number as below - you can choose other port numbers, but it is crucial that they are not the same as any other ports used by the Xenta Server. Upload the changed file to the same location on the Xenta Server Download the project from TAC XBuilder, choosing to download all files You now get this message Here you must click "Target system" or the changed settings are overwritten Note that the port numbers defined in XBuilder have not changed yet Save the project and close XBuilder Open the project again You will now see that the port numbers have the value you defined in the file earlier Now when you try browsing the Xenta Server with a SNMP tool, you can no longer connect on the default port 161

"No license for LonWorks communication" Error in Windows 2008 Server X64

Issue "No license for LonWorks communication" Error when starting Workstation. Product Line TAC Vista Environment Windows 2008 Server X64 TAC Vista 5.1.5 Cause Windows Server is member of a domain. Configure the TAC Vista Server to run as a service, with a local user set as administrator to logon. Results in "No license for LonWorks communication" when starting Workstation. If starting the service with a domain user or local system, it works.  Resolution Windows Security Policy This may have something to do with UAC (User Account Control) in Windows. The user that launches TAC Vista was already as a local administrator, but it seems that a log out with the user, log in with a local user, and log back in with a domain user is necessary for some policies to be set. Licensing Registry The Vista licensing requires registry information on where to find a license file. This registry key is found in the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FLEXlm License Manager\TACLIC_LICENSE_FILE If the user has not been logged in and configured to run Vista software, this key might be missing or misconfigured. Ensure that it has a proper value by launching Vista Workstation or running the TAC License Setup. Log in with the user that will run the TACOS service and run the License Server Setup application to ensure the correct file path is defined in the Registry.   Related Articles: "No license for LonWorks communication" with TAC Vista Server LE "No license for LonWorks communication" error when using a non LE dongle "No license for LonWorks communication" - LonMaker Recovery Folder "No license for LonWorks communication" error message in Classic Network "No license for LonWorks communication" in Vista Workstation TACOS startup delay utility

Unable to learn on 3rd party device

Issue After receiving the CyberStations Who Is broadcast  via the BCX4040 the third party device responds with an I Am packet.  However, the BCX is not passing the information back to Cyberstation.  Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Cyberstation BACnet Who is I Am 3rd Party Find Bacnet device Learn Cause In the attached mstp capture images, neither of the responses from the Automated Logic device at packets 1713 and 5379 have the necessary information that would cause the bCX or any BACnet router to send the message to another network. 3rd Party device responds with an I Am Looking at the NPDU layer of either message, you’ll notice a destination network (DNET) is not indicated. If you compare these messages with those from the b3 (at packet 1716 or 5382), you’ll see a DNET of 1 indicated, which is why the I-Am’s from the b3 reach Cyber, as Cyber belongs to Network 1. BACnet end devices are expected to dynamically detect the presence of SNET/SADDR information in the NPDU and reply with a message that includes the matching values for the DNET/DADDR. b3 responds with an I Am In the preceding Who-is packets you can see that the network number has been communicated to the third party device Resolution BACnet routers or BACnet Building Controllers do not cache or otherwise correlate requests and responses. BACnet end devices are expected to dynamically detect the presence of SNET/SADDR information in the NPDU and reply with a message that includes the matching values for the DNET/DADDR. The role of the BACnet router is to remove the DNET/DADDR information and add the SNET/SADDR information when they route messages from one network to another.

Can TAC BACnet (Viconics) thermostats have identical names and deviceids within sub networks using their default names?

Issue Can TAC BACnet (Viconics) thermostats have identical names or device ids within sub networks using their default names? Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Viconic BACnet Thermostats BACnet BCX B4 MSTP Cause Viconic stats need a unique address and unique name across the entire BACnet network. Resolution BACnet Viconics thermostats must have a unique name and device id across the entire BACnet network. The BACnet data link layer has two key parameters: the device object name and the device object ID. The device object name must be unique from any other BACnet device object name on the BACnet network (i.e. not just the MS/TP sub-network). Typically this question comes up because a thermostat will not come online. Run an acctrace during the Find and you will probably see a duplicate MAC address. Once you have given unique names and comm addresses to each of the thermostats on the entire BACnet network, these devices should communicate and come online properly. Each of the Viconic stats are given a unique name that includes the address (once it has been made unique) To change the communication address: Hold down the menu button until the option for menu comes up Answer the questions for the various options and eventually you will be brought to change comm address. Change Comm address, select Yes and then use the up or down arrows to give this MSTP Viconic stat a unique address. There is a Configuration Tool to access and edit the name and device id unique naming scheme. Click here for ViconicsConfigurationTool.zip. Installing and using the Viconics Configuration Tool on a Windows Laptop  You will need a serial adapter connection to tie into the MSTP bus that the thermostat(s) are connected to Select the Viconics folder > ViconicsConfigurationTool.zip You can install this ZIP file in any directory you wish, but the bacdocm.ini file must be installed on your C:\Windows directory. Use the bacdocm.ini file to configure your network settings at the Configurator Tool level. You can set the MAC address of your tool, the baud rate of your connection (max 38400 - limited by the RS-232 to RS485 port and Windows) etc. The "Our Device Instance" value represents the MAC address of the tool which must be unique on the MSTP network. Also the "MaxMaster" value must be set to a higher value than the highest MAC value on the MSTP network. You can edit this INI file to modify your settings OR you can modify the settings by going though the BACdoor Configuration Tool. Once you launch the Configuration Tool, you'll notice a white applet appearing at the right bottom of your screen. That is the BACdoor MSTP sniffer that actually looks for devices and objects. If you click on that icon, and select the "Configure" tab, a configuration window will be displayed. Select the baud rate at which you want to communicate with your device. This BACdoor configuration does the same thing as changing the BACDOCM.ini file (if properly located in C\Windows). Launch the Configurator Tool application. It automatically looks for devices on that network (at the baud rate set in the bacdocm.ini file or in the BACdoor Configuration window). If no device is detected an error message will pop-up after 1-2 minutes. All discovered devices will show up in the "Device List" you have to "Connect to device" in order to list all the objects of that device. After you changed the Baud Rate, you have to click on the "Apply changes" button. Don't forget that the max speed of this tool is 38400. For the first connection, you need to power cycle the thermostat (if it was running at 76800 previously) so that it auto-detects the 38.4 network. Once you set it to 76.8, you can not connect to that thermostat with the tool because of that 38.4 limitation. Also this tool does not support Read Multiple Property so it reads every property of every object one at a time. In its default mode of operation, the device will automatically match its baud rate to the baud rate of the network. Automatic baud rate detection will occur when the MS/TP communication port is initialized (on power up). If the network speed is changed, the device will keep listening at the previously detected speed for 10 minutes before resuming auto-bauding. Re-powering the devices will force right away auto-bauding. SE7xxx series requires the tool. The SE8xxx series does not as access is available through the menu on the device.

Controller is not properly validating access attempt at door when the primary/secondary access server is down.

Issue One of the following: - People that have no access to a specific area are being allowed in based on site code when the CyberStation is offline. (NoComm validation set for site code only) - No access at all and no access event reported (No validation configured for NoComm status in the door validation matrix) Environment CyberStation CX99xx CX9702 CX9680 ACX5740 ACX5720 ACX781 ACX700 Cause When the controller detects its primary/secondary access server is offline, it switches its system status to NoComm and performs access validation based on the rules specified by the Comm Fail column in the door's "Access Validation" options in the entry/exit reader tab. Resolution To have the controller validate site + card when in NoComm, make sure to check the appropriate check boxes (Validate site, Validate card) in the door editor.
