Relay Control With Xenta Analog Output

Issue Relay Control With Xenta Analog Output Product Line TAC Vista Environment Xenta programmable controllers Xenta 281, 282, 283, 301, 302, 401 Cause Occasionally installers of Xenta controllers are using the Analog Output (AO) of the Xenta controllers to control one or two external relays. This is being done when the HVAC application needs one or two more points of discrete on/off control and when the AOs are not needed for proportional control. Obviously, this deviation from normal I/O application is being entertained in a effort to avoid additional costs of higher capacity controllers and/or the Xenta I/O expansion modules. Implementation has consisted of a 12Vdc relay connected to the AO output and the AO is directed to 100% output (10V) to energize the relay and 0% output (0V) to de-energize the relay. Resolution While this AO relay control application has not been recommended for typical designs, it should be possible to accommodate it reliably as long as some specific considerations are included in the relay selection and installation. For more information please use the following link: Xenta Analog Output

DEP might prevent some applications from executing

Issue Data Execution Prevention (DEP) might prevent some applications from executing. Product Line TAC Vista Environment Windows XP Windows Server 2003 Windows Server 2008 Cause In both Windows XP and Windows Server 2003/2008, there is a function called "DEP" (Data Execution Prevention). The default setting for DEP is to monitor Windows programs and services only. However, in Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2003, this setting was changed to monitor all programs and services. This can prevent some applications from starting (like TAC Vista Workstation, TAC Vista graphic editor, RSPD etc.) Resolution Check that DEP is only monitoring Windows programs and applications only. How to access the DEP settings: In the system properties under the advanced tab, click the settings button for the performance. Select the data execution prevention tab. Here is a quick video of the DEP setting process.

TAC Xenta does not show the same time as TAC Vista.

Issue TAC Xenta does not show the same time as TAC Vista. Product Line TAC Vista Environment TAC Vista Workstation Xenta programmable controllers Cause The time in the Xenta comes from the Vista server. However, it can be adjusted for time zones and daylight savings time settings. Resolution Check daylight savings time and time zone settings in TAC Xenta. The setting should be the same as in the Operating Unit (if they are in the same time zone). Check if a PVR object name XENTASYSREG is in the Menta application with a value of 2. This inverts Europe daylight setting and causes the controller to adjust its time. Note! This is NOT the regional settings on your PC, but the setting in the Vista object in your DB. Here is a quick video showing the regional setting process.

Poor data communications, communications failure or packet being corrupted

Issue Poor communications, communications failure or packet being corrupted Product Line Andover Continuum,EcoStruxure Building Expert,EcoStruxure Building Operation,Satchwell MicroNet,Satchwell Sigma,TAC INET,TAC Vista Environment Communications networks, BACnet MSTP, LON FT10, Infinet, Modbus RTU, Ethernet EMC (Electromagnetic compatibility) VSD Variable Speed Drive, VFD Variable Frequency Drive, Inverter Drive Cause Electrical Interference from Inverter (variable speed drives or VSD) Radiated or Induced RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) Resolution A VSD has the potential to create a large amount of electrical noise, to avoid causing issues it is vital they are installed as the manufacturer's instructions.  (Other devices also have this potential) Our systems are often used to control VSDs on fan motors, so if poor communications is found during the commissioning process, then try stopping all the fans in the area then re-testing the communications. A recent example was seen where LON FT10 communication was working ok until some VSDs were started, at this point LON devices and Object went offline intermittently. When all the VSDs were stopped the communication become completely stable. It was then possible to find which VSD was causing the problem and correct the VSD installation. In this case a LON analyzer would also have helped diagnose the issue.

Xenta 102-AX Terminal load will not change from 0%

Issue The Xenta 102-AX VAV controller does not indicate any terminal load even though the demand is present at the VAV. IE the VAV setpoint is 23°C degrees and the room temperature is 26°C degrees. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, TAC Vista Environment Xenta 102-AX VAV controller Cause The 102ax has been left in calibration mode. When the 102ax is in this mode the terminal load remains at 0% To check this from Vista locate the two points "UCPTvavselection.CPH" and "UCPTvavselection.CPl". These object are located in the VAV_controller object of the 102-AX controller. If one indicates "CALIBR ACTIVE" then the 102-AX  is in airflow calibration mode. This screen capture shows a Normal state of a 102-AX. Resolution To allow the terminal load to respond complete the Airflow calibration. If this has been left this way and no calibration is required a power cycle of the 102-AX will remove the 102-AX from airflow calibration mode. If above was not resolution, then perform the following: Record all settings (screenshot or photos of TGML Configuration pages) Commission controller with Default values. Re-enter all values that were changed from default. Override temperature above effective setpoint + cooling band, and see if terminal load goes +100. Override temperature below effective setpoint  - heating band, and see if terminal load goes -100.

Time synchronization done by TAC Xenta 28x, 30x, 401 controllers.

Issue Will a TAC Xenta 28x, 30x, 401 controllers do time synchronization in the Lon network? Product Line TAC Vista Environment Xenta 401 Xenta 281/282 Xenta 301/302 Cause The TAC Vista server will synchronize the time of all of the TAC Xenta controllers in the Vista database every 10 minutes by default but the time can be changed by a value greater than the Delta time setup in the Vista database and an update forced. Resolution The TAC Xenta group master will send out the time to all TAC Xenta devices in the group once a day and this time interval cannot be changed. If the time in the TAC Xenta Master is changed for example by the OP-panel it will send out the time to all TAC Xenta devices in its network.

Save often when working with Menta

Issue It is recommended to save often when working with Menta. Product Line TAC Vista Environment Menta Cause We have experienced lockups of Menta when we conduct very long programming sessions. Resolution Save often. When you take a break, shut down Menta and then restart it when you return. This will help you to avoid losing time should Menta freeze up which is known to happen. It is good practice to let Vista DB folder structure be the file cabinet. When a change is required, export the application from Vista, make the changes, then re-import to Vista and download the controller. This will keep your field environment in synchronization with the operator interface.

Transferring a Vista Database from one computer to another.

Issue Transferring a Vista Database from one computer to another. Error when attempting to start TAC Vista Server: Insufficient object database authority to start the TAC Vista server Product Line TAC Vista Environment Vista Database Cause The database files are stored on the hard drive of the server computer. To move it to a new PC, it can be as easy as copying and pasting the database folder. While it is still recommended that you use the Vista backup function when moving databases, it is also possible to directly copy the files. It is not uncommon to burn a CD containing these files due to storage media size constraints, and the request has a permanent backup of the database. The user should be cautious when copying those files from the CD to the PC since by default these files will be flagged as "READ ONLY". This will result in an error when you start Vista Server similar to the error shown below. Resolution When copying the database files, they should be selected and the READ ONLY flag removed in the properties screen. Alternatively, zipping the files before copying them to the CD will avoid this issue as when they are unzipped on the new PC, they will not be flagged as "READ ONLY".

Generating alarms in Vista from Modbus devices.

Issue How to generate an alarm in TAC Vista, if some event happens in Modbus units. Generating alarms in Vista from Modbus devices. Product Line TAC Vista Environment TAC Vista 5.x Xenta Servers Xenta 511, 527, 701, 711, 721, 731 (since Vista 5.1.5), 913 Cause It is possible to see alarms generated in Modbus devices in TAC Vista but these will not automatically create an alarm that appears in the alarm pane. Resolution Create a change of state object that is connected to the alarm signal from the Modbus device. If the Modbus device goes offline the value will remain at its last polled value. In this case, there may be no alarm generated so you can also monitor the online option in the Modbus device template to give an alarm that the Modbus device is offline.

Xenta Server Modbus polling

Issue How does Xenta Server poll Modbus registers? Does it poll all registers that are specified in the device template or only the active points (such as a value displayed on an open graphic in Vista or on a web page in Xenta Server)? Product Line TAC Vista Environment Xenta Servers Xenta 511, 527, 701, 711, 721, 731, 913 Cause Understanding how the communication will appear on the wire (whether it is Modbus TCP/IP or RS-485) can help with everything from setup to troubleshooting. Resolution The Xenta Server will constantly poll all registers specified in the device template They do not have to be defined in any value pages or graphics. Just by being defined in the device template, the Xenta Server will poll them constantly. The order of the polling will be in the order they have been defined in the template. The cycle time will depend on how many registers are defined and the response time from the device being polled.  To see the polling time and response time a log can be taken of the Xenta server communications, the process for setting up these logs refer to the following article: Setting up a Modbus, M-Bus or BACnet communications log in a Xenta 5/7/9xx

How to Add Separate Bit of Modbus Register to Device Template

Issue Some Modbus registers contain separate bits to stand for different values. Sometimes additional bits need to be added to the device template in Vista. Product Line TAC Vista Environment TAC Vista Xenta Controllers Modbus Cause This kind of application is required for some projects.  Resolution Create a new device template. Fill the name, full address and other information of the register. In the BitMask column, fill the Start and Stop bit of the register. For example, if only the 2 nd to the 5 th bits are needed, then fill “1” in the Start bit while “4” in the Stop bit. Then only the bits needed are added into the device template. The bit numbers to read are different than the start and stop BitMask numbers due to the fact that the first bit in a register is bit number 0.

Adding a TAC Xenta device to an existing TAC Xenta group

Issue If I add a TAC Xenta device to an existing TAC Xenta group, do I have to update other Xenta devices as well? Product Line TAC Vista Environment Xenta programmable controller (e.g. 401, 301, 281) Xenta groups TAC Vista system plugin Cause Each programmable Xenta device needs to know the name of all the other Xenta groups, as well as all the Xenta device names in its own group. Each time a new group member is added, all Xenta devices in that group need to be downloaded. If a new Xenta group is added, all Xenta devices in all groups need to be downloaded.   This provides new network description files to the controllers so they can communicate properly. Resolution All Xenta devices in that group must be updated. LonMaker or NL220 and your Vista databases need to be updated as well. TAG bindings will also need to be added to the new TAC Xenta device if an LNS database is being used. The TAC Vista System plugin has the feature under the LNS Network menu. "Create Group Bindings" If this is a large site this will take some time and cause offline devices during this process. In this case, these bindings can be added manually to the new controller. This will prevent all the other devices having there TAG bindings deleted and the new TAG bindings created. The following articles show the process for manually adding TAG bindings. Manually adding a Xenta Device with Group bindings in NL220 Manually Adding Xenta device with Group bindings in Lonmaker

Can not download application to a Xenta 401

Issue Not possible to download an application(.mta file) to a Xenta 401, Xenta 301/302, Xenta 281/282 The download process looks fine until the file transfer should start. Then it just hangs and nothing happens. Product Line TAC Vista Environment Xenta 401 Xenta 301/302 Xenta 281/282  Cause The problem is that a file transfer is already running for something else (trend logs or alarms) and only one file transfer can run at a time for each LON network. Resolution Shut all graphics pages and try again. Restart the Vista Server and try again. If that doesn't help, restart the Xenta's to stop the ongoing file transfers If that doesn't help, ensure you are running TAC Vista 5.1.9 and  Start the TAC Vista server communication log, let it run for 10 minutes and send that to your local technical support for investigation. To start the communication log: open the Log tab in the TAC Vista server, open "Comm.Log", Set the Physical layer to "Active" The log will be saved in the $Log folder in the Vista database and called PL_"network name"

Determining which device should be the Master Device in TAC Xenta Group

Issue In a TAC Xenta group, there must be one TAC Xenta which is the master, which TAC Xenta device in the group is most suitable to be the master in the group? Product Line TAC Vista Environment TAC Xenta 401 TAC Xenta 301/302 TAC Xenta 281/282 Cause TAC Xenta group master devices have additional communication responsibilities to the Vista Server -- reporting online/offline status of their group members. Resolution During network planning, choose the master device to be the group member with the: least amount of SNVTs least TACNV least amount of I/O modules least memory used least communication least processing load If adding controllers in an ad-hoc manner, the first controller commissioned must be the group Master to enable communication with any other controllers. If the group master is offline, the whole group will be offline. Remember that when a controller is added to a group all controllers in that group need to have the application and parameters downloaded. If the Master Device is changed after the group is set up you will also need to download every controller, Download the new Master first so that as you download the rest of the controllers they will come online after the download.

Installing multiple Xenta Servers on a Lonworks network.

Issue Only one Xenta Server can be installed in Vista on a single Lonworks network. Product Line TAC Vista Environment TAC Vista Lonworks Xenta 511, 527, 555, 701, 711, 721, 731, 913 Cause When a Xenta 500/700/913 is installed in Vista as a Xenta Server, it is intended to act as the Lonworks network interface for Vista. By default, the Xenta 500/700 also handles the alarms generated in devices on the Lonworks network.  Only one Xenta Server can, therefore, exist on a single Lonworks network.  To enforce this, Vista does not allow you to add a Xenta Server to an existing Lonworks network. Resolution Install the first Xenta 500/700/913 device as a Xenta Server. Install any additional Xenta 500/700/913 as Lonworks Devices on the network. As the Xenta Server handles the alarms generated in devices on the Lonworks network, the additional Xenta 500/700s must be prevented from handling alarms. This is done by changing the Alarm Server setting in XBuilder to 'Disabled'. The XBuilder projects for the Xenta 500/700/913 configured as Lonworks Devices cannot be accessed from Vista.  In A LNS environment, SNVTS will be able to be seen through Vista workstation but no XBuilder parameters. These XBuilder projects must be treated as standalone and an XBuilder project backup is managed from outside the Vista database.   For details on configuring multiple Xenta 500/700/913s in Classic and LNS networks see these manuals: TAC Vista - Classic Networks - Technical Manual TAC Vista - LNS Networks - Technical Manual TAC Xenta Server - TAC Networks - Technical Manual TAC Xenta Server - Gateway - Technical Manual
