Issue
Data Execution Prevention (DEP) might prevent some applications from executing.
Product Line
TAC Vista
Environment
- Windows XP
- Windows Server 2003
- Windows Server 2008
Cause
In both Windows XP and Windows Server 2003/2008, there is a function called "DEP" (Data Execution Prevention). The default setting for DEP is to monitor Windows programs and services only. However, in Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2003, this setting was changed to monitor all programs and services.
This can prevent some applications from starting (like TAC Vista Workstation, TAC Vista graphic editor, RSPD etc.)
Resolution
Check that DEP is only monitoring Windows programs and applications only. How to access the DEP settings:
- In the system properties under the advanced tab, click the settings button for the performance.
- Select the data execution prevention tab.
Here is a quick video of the DEP setting process.
