How to transfer the trend log from MPM Controller to FTP location.

Issue How to manage the trend files stored on the SmartStruxure™ Lite Manager flash memory. Examples and guidelines for the FTP transfer of trend files. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert Environment SmartStruxure Lite Multi-Purpose Manager (MPM) 2.4.3 and above Lua program Cause All data points collected by a TL object are saved in a text file stored on the SmartStruxure™ Lite Manager SD memory card (which has a storage capacity of 2 GB). This file is accessible at [ipaddress]/root/data/trend.csv. The trend.csv file contains the log of all TL objects on a SmartStruxure™ Lite Manager. It logs new data until it reaches a size of ~10 MB, when it will be renamed trend_date.csv for backup. A new trend.csv file will be created to record the new data.  In the context of your application, it may be of interest to retrieve the trend.csv file from the SmartStruxure™ Lite Manager for analysis.   It is also important to remove these excess trend files since there is a risk of filling the SD card on the Manager. An example of storage requirements are listed below: A Manager with 10 trend logs recording data every 10 minutes will record ~50 kB of data each day, for a total of ~350 kB per week. A Manager with 20 trend logs recording data every 30 seconds will record ~2 MB of data each day, for a total of ~14 MB per week. Resolution The simplest way to automate this process is to use a Lua script to initiate a FTP file transfer to an FTP server on an event of your choice. The example shown in the application note below, the file transfer is initiated by a SmartStruxure™ Lite scheduler. Once the file is transferred to the FTP server, you can rename the file to create a backup. Data collection will then continue in a new and empty trend.csv file. This way, any new transfer of the trend.csv file to the FTP server will be a complement of the preceding file. This application note discusses the management of the trend files stored on the SmartStruxure™ Lite Manager flash memory, and provides examples and guidelines for the FTP transfer of these files. Lua script examples can be found here

Maximum Limits for StruxureWare Lite Design

Issue Maximum Limits for SmartStruxure Lite Design (Scalability, Capacity) Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert Environment SmartStruxure Lite Multi-Purpose Manager (MPM) Cause What are the maximum number of communication between managers and end device Resolution Guidelines: number of end devices per node Wired ● 6 wired inputs (Ohms / Volts, Analog or Digital) ● 6 wired outputs (4 analog 0-12VDC, 2 digital) The analog output ports has a maximum nominal load of 50mA each. ● Need more? Modbus I/O extenders, SEC-TE, etc. Wireless devices ● In theory: almost unlimited (no physical constraints) ● In practice: limited by range and strength of wireless signal     ● EnOcean: Rule of thumb is within room (up to 75ft in building – line of sight)     ● ZigBee: Rule of thumb is within room (up to 150ft in building – line of sight)     Limited by application     ● Frequency of transmission     ● Efficient handling of data queues Guidelines: number of end devices per node BACnet - with the current basic client capabilities, the maximum number of devices supported on a single BACnet network is 1000. Modbus      Limitations for ModBus connectivity per MPM is 31 devices but depends on polling rate and amount of points:         ● Using pre-defined objects, polling rate is 30s / device         ● Using Lua script, polling rate variable ZigBee or EnOcean for the end devices? ZigBee ● Longer range ● Reliability built-in the protocol (ack, retries, …) ● Requires a battery ● Multiple channels available (possible to isolate networks / groups) EnOcean ● Self-powered (no battery) ● Easy to deploy ● Lower range ● Reliability must be ensured at the application level ● No retries ● ZigBee coordinator is a device that sets up the network, is aware of all the nodes within its network. Every ZigBee network must contain a network coordinator. ● ZigBee router can act as an intermediate router, passing on data from other devices. ● ZigBee end-device is part of the network, but doesn’t re-route information to neighbors. How many devices can I use? ZigBee ● A ZigBee network should not have more than 75 ZigBee devices in total (coordinator, router and end devices); ● A ZigBee network should not have more than 24 ZigBee routers (+1 coordinator) ● A ZigBee node (coordinator or router) should not control more than 10 peripheral end devices. EnOcean ● Using pre-built objects: ● 4 Thermostats ● 20 Switches ● 20 Relays ● The maximum number of devices added to each MPM is 49 ●The maximum number of EnOcean devices added to each MPM is 49 ●The maximum number of EnOcean devices with the same EEP added to each MPM is 49 .This only applies to firmware 2.13.1 and later, the limit for previous firmware is 20. An Exception is the following limits for devices/widgets per MPM: 20 EnOcean Switches 20 EnOcean Relays 4 EnOcean Thermostats The AV and BV variables The MPM-UN controller comes with 100 AV's and 100 BV's. MPM has capacity for up to 700 AV's and 700 BV's. After the initial 100 are consumed, add Value Banks of 100 for each AV and BV. Value Banks will be added as sub-devices under the main MPM.  Maximum data Points: MPMs can have up to 750 data points per monitor. What is the maximum size for background graphics? The maximum size of a background picture (in dashboard or section map) is 2Mbyte with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 (Width x Height). For analog inputs with a signal range in Ohms has no reading limit. You just need to configure the table in the AIC object assigned to referred input.

How to integrate MPM SSL controller over Bacnet IP

Issue Unable to monitor a SmartStruxure Lite MPM controller over a Building Management System using BACnet to an AX BMS Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert Environment SmartStruxure Lite Multi-Purpose Manager (MPM) Cause Misconfiguration of BACnet settings on a MPM controller. Resolution Open Building Expert on the controller with a supported browser. In this example both the MPM controller and the BMS system are in the same IP subnet range. Highlight the Device's name e.g. SmartStruxure Controller and go to the Configuration tab. On Ethernet Settings (ETH1) The IP address of the MPM controller must be in the same subnet IP range of the BMS IP address, but not the same IP address. Netmask must be the same subnet on both controllers (MPM and BMS) e.g. 255.255.255.0, if not then a BBMD/Foreign Device needs to be used. Gateway IP if used. On BACnet Settings (BAC1) Network ID (171) used on the MPM controller must be different than the BMS network numbers used for BACnet MS/TP and BACnet IP Set Protocol to BACnet IP Click on the upper-left icon (Save database to flash) Important! Right-click on "SmartStruxure Controller" then on "Restart Controller," be patient. On the BMS Jace AX, under BACnet network, click on Discover, uncheck all MPM Networks assigned within the MPM (if this facility is available in the BMS), in this example we have only one, it’s #171, refer to point 4. If you don't uncheck MPM network number, the devices will still discover but with duplicates. In this example, network #1 is the BMS IP network and needs to be checked. Network #300 is the BMS MS/TP network number, and has no impact on discovering the MPM as a BACnet device. Click OK. Here’s the result of the discovery, all the objects we had at point 4. are shown. Now add the Devices to the Database, then select one device (in this example the SE8600 is selected), click the Discover button, all objects we had in point 4. are now in AX. Add them to AX database.

Points from an MPM display ? as units when brought into Building Operation via BACnet

Issue Points from a SmartStruxure Lite MPM display the question mark character (?) instead of the correct engineering unit when brought into Building Operation via BACnet. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert, EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation WorkSation SmartStruxure Lite MPM with firmware version 2.5.8 or earlier Cause The question mark (?) placeholder for units is used when Building Operation reads a BACnet unit id that we do not have a translation for to Building Operation units. In MPM firmware version 2.5.8 and earlier, units are translated as vendor proprietary, in firmware version 2.7 and later the units are translated to standard BACnet units. Resolution Upgrade the MPM firmware to Version 2.7x or later. MPM firmware can be downloaded from the https://ecoxpert.se.com/building-expert/discover#tab/documents . Please note that firmware is on a secure area of the site that is only accessible to certified SmartStruxure Lite engineers.   I M P O R T A N T   Also, any thermostat where the communication module is replaced must be re-addressed and re-discovered, additionally all related Widgets will have to be re-linked to the new object(s). If you are not sure which module you have on your SE7000P units do the following... a) Remove the cover. b) look at the part number, the new extended profile modules are 051-0132

How to create a Binary Input or Digital Input on a MPM controller

Issue How to create a Binary Input or Digital Input on a MPM controller Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert Environment SmartStruxure Lite Multi-Purpose Manager (MPM) Cause When a Binary Input is created, the object does not work. There is no documentation on how to create a Binary Input Resolution In order to use a Binary Input, both the BI object and the corresponding Analog Input AI object must be added from the object list. For example, if you need to use BI3 with a dry contact, you will also need to add AI3 and toggle its "input type" to Ohms, then save the object. You also need to keep the object in the object list. With regards to “Input type” for the Binary Inputs: (the "input type" property is in the AI object) -When set in Volts, anything >= 2VDC will be considered a 1 status.                                    anything < 2VDC will be conspired a 0 status. -When set in Ohms, anything < 10kOhm will be considered a 1 status.                                      anything >= 10KOhm will be considered a 0 status. Note: When "Input type" is set to ohms, a dry contact must be used for the BI to work properly. BO1 and BO2 of the MPM can be used for example, but not the relays of the TE2 as they are not dry contacts by design.

Using the PFC object in an MPM-VA

Issue Unsure how to use the settings in the VAV Flow object Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert Environment SmartStruxure Lite Multi-Purpose Manager (MPM) MPM-VA Cause Cannot change the units of the output Resolution For Variable Air Volume (VAV) Flow configuration, it is recommended to use the Kf method when setting up an MPM-VA In the PFC calculation, the Kf factor represents the flow (Q) for a measured dP on the flow ring of 1 Pascal (Pa). The flow sensor on the MPM controller (AI21) measures dP in inches of water column (in w.c.). With a conversion of 1 in w.c. = 250 Pa, we obtain this formula: Kf = Q [cfm] / (sqrt(250 x dP[in w.c.])) or, Q [cfm] = Kf * (sqrt(250 x dP[in w.c.]))   Calibration/Balancing: A typical VAV box should have a theoretical Kf factor provided by the manufacturer. This Kf value must be used in the in the PFC object when balancing VAV systems. Next, using instruments such as an air flow capture hood, technicians must compare the output flow from the PFC object and the actual measures air volume. If the values do not match, the measured value along with the value of AI21 must be entered in the above equation to produce a new Kf factor. The new Kf value will then be used in the PFC object to finalize the calibration For example if the measured air volume is 200 cfm and AI21 is 1.2 w.c., the new Kf will be: Kf = 200 / (sqrt(250 x 1.2)) =11.55 Important notes: -Even though the Kf units show "Liters per second", the "Flow output value" will be in "Cubic feet per minute" (CFM) if the value of Kf is based on CFM values. If the Kf is based on LPS, the output will be in LPS -Every time the Kf factor is changed in the PFC object in the MPM, it will take up to 2 minutes before the output flow changes to the new value

The Lua AND function returns unexpected results

Issue There are two variables: INDIT =0 koll1_p=1 - When using AND: DEV700.BO1=(INDIT and koll1_p) --prim sziv1 The result is DEV700.BO1=1 - When using *: DEV700.BO1=(INDIT * koll1_p) --prim sziv1 The result is correct DEV700.BO1=0 Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert Environment SmartStruxure Lite Multi-Purpose Manager (MPM) Cause The simple issue here is that the and keyword is a logical operator, however the variables being compared are numeric. Contrary to many other languages, a Lua variable is not typed, which means that the kind of value it stores are not constrained and can actually change during a program execution: Boolean Designates a variable which can hold the true or false values. It is important to note that true or false are not numbers and do not equal 1 or 0. That is why the mathematical multiplier * keyword works in this instance but the logical and does not. Resolution The logical operators are and, or, and not. Like control structures, all logical operators consider false and nil as false and anything else as true. The operator and returns its first argument if it is false; otherwise, it returns its second argument. The operator or returns its first argument if it is not false; otherwise, it returns its second argument: print(4 and 5) --> 5 print(nil and 13) --> nil print(false and 13) --> false print(4 or 5) --> 4 print(false or 5) --> 5 Both and and or use short-cut evaluation, that is, they evaluate their second operand only when necessary. Essentially to use the and operator with numeric values they will first need to be evaluated into true or false states. For example: If INDIT ~=0 then x= true else x= false end If koll1_p ~=0 then y= true else y= false end DEV700.BO1=(x and y)

Within the configuration of a SmartStruxure Lite MPM CFG1 object, there is a "Save Period". What is this, and what is saved?

Issue What files are saved, to where and why is this used. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert Environment SmartStruxure Lite Multi-Purpose Manager (MPM) All variants: VA, UN, GW Cause The running database of a SmartStruxure Lite MPM controller is in the controllers volatile memory (RAM), in order for this data to be preserved during a power failure or reboot this needs to be saved to non volatile memory (Flash) Resolution The save period is for backing up the controller database to flash memory, this can be set to Never, Hourly or Daily. All programming and runtime information is then saved to the controllers flash memory so that it is not lost during a power failure or controller reset. Stored data includes Controller status, configuration changes, updates such as trended information or setpoint changes, and Lua scripts.

Lua Program for measuring EnOcean Signal Strength

Issue Lua Program for measuring EnOcean Signal Strength Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert Environment SmartStruxure Lite Cause Requirement to measure and alarm from the EnOcean Signal strength. Resolution Download either the txt file or c2g import file. The file is set to monitor 3 EnOcean devices, either copy the relevant sections to add more devices, or remove to reduce the number of devices. An AV is required for each EnOcean Device. In the Lua program, edit the EnOcean Device ID, this can be found in the "EnOcean Device Configuration" properties. In the Lua program, edit the AVs to those that are to be used. Edit the AV and add the ID in the description and any other description required. How the Lua program works: The Lua script is set to assign each AV an abnormal value (10000) after a time period in (3600) seconds. The EnOcean device will overwrite via the program the value in the AV when a value is received from the device. For an alarm, create an Event, set the high limit (9999) and a time period set to a value beyond that a signal is received from the EnOcean device. Set the low limit to -200. Notes: EnOcean devices send packets at varying times, some at change of state. The timer needs to reflect how often a packet is sent. Several Lua programs may need to be used and the EnOcean devices grouped with similar packet broadcast times. e.g. an infrequently used switch would be different to a temperature sensor.

SED-T Temperature sensor Integration Tips

Issue Having difficulties integrating an SED-T stat with the MPM (Stat not being "learned" by the MPM) Product Line EcoStruxure Building Expert Environment SmartStruxure Lite Multi-Purpose Manager SED-T00 SED-TS0 SED-TH0 SED-THS Cause Installation manual does not provide enough information Resolution Commissioning tips and recommendations   Dip Switches: SED-T series stats come directly from production with all dip switches set to 0. The dip switches settings must be changed otherwise the device will not send any telegrams. Tip: When pairing an EnOcean Temperature Sensor with the MPM, always set at least one pin of the DIP switch to the ON position before learning it in. Otherwise the MPM will not display any readings regardless of dip switch configuration even if the Enocean ID had been populated in the EODC object. The workaround at this point would be to click on the learn button again, the device will be learned successfully when the “RSSI” value and a “Last Communication” time stamp are displayed.   Example on how to use the dip switches: If the dip switches are set to 1= OFF, 2 = ON, 3 = ON, 4 = OFF, the stat would wake up every 10 seconds and take a look at the values. if they changed, the stat will send a new telegram with the new value. if the value did not change however, the stat will go back to sleep until the next 10 seconds elapse (first iteration). If the value did still did not change before the 7th iteration, then the stat will randomly send a telegram with the unchanged value at any time between the 7th and the 14th iteration. that is a minimum of 10*7 = 70 seconds and maximum of 10*14 = 140 seconds.   Solar cell: When removing the unit from the box for the first time, its energy banks (super capacitor) need to be charged using one of the methods below in order to be able to learn the device. A minimum of 2.1VDC is required before the stat can wake up and send a telegram and Ideally, the Super cap voltage should be between 4 to 5Volts. Method 1: Power the sensor with 24VAC for 1 hour (3volts/hour) Method 2: expose the solar cell to light for x amount of time depending on the light source: 1- Room with LED panels: 24hr minimum charging time (0.1Volts/hour) 2- Lit room with day light: 3-4 hours minimum charging time (0.7Volts/hour) 3- Direct sunlight: 1/2 hour minimum charging time (3.5Volts/hour)   Battery: The 20mm coin cell battery does not charge the super capacitor, however it slows down the depletion of super capacitor once its charge drops below 2.1Volts.
