Support of Control Description Command delays in SubLAN devices.

Issue Is it possible to use Control Description (command) delays on MR controllers? MR (Micro Regulator) DO points not turning ON (or not turning OFF) - sticking. Environment I/NET Seven MR (Micro Regulator) Controllers Cause The Control Description command delay was not implemented in the MR as it was not intended to be used for control of multiple high power devices, which this feature was designed for; also, the MR does not have the memory capability to support the timer queue to handle it. Note: The Control Description command delay does function within the SLI (7793 / 7798B1 / 7798C) although this function is supported here it is not intended for the control of multiple subLAN devices, such as the MR.  You should not rely on this control function from the SLI.  Undesired results can be expected if this is implemented and is not supported. Resolution The Control Description Command Delay is not supported within subLAN devices and should not be implemented.  Alternative methods of delaying startup of control devices are: Using Time schedules; the Master / Slave time schedules feature.  Within the slave schedules you are able to delay / adjust the start time by minutes. The combination of using Master / Slave ATS and Host ATS provides a powerful and simple user interface in modifying all the Master Schedules from a single location. Refer to TCON 300 Chapters 4 and 7. MR Functions (DDC); If your control delays are required within the MR, a method available to use is the MR-DDC Relay modules are the delay before break (DDB) or delay before make (DBM) timers.  An even simpler method would be to stagger scan rates (using prime numbers) within your MR Function DDC modules.  Refer to TCON 300 Chapter 13. The DDC modules have there own scan rates and control the point based on this scan rate and will override any Resident I/O Point scan rate defined on these output points. Programmer timers from within the SLI which the control critical items of plant and require a staggered startup procedure.

Windows 7 SP1 support for Continuum and Webclient.

Issue Windows 7 SP1 support for Continuum and Webclient. Environment Windows 7 Continuum v1.93 and above Webclient v1.93 and above Cause Microsoft released Windows SP1 and it is not listed on the Continuum compatibility matrix. Resolution Continuum / WebClient v1.93 QA has not tested and qualified v1.93 for use with Windows 7 SP1. Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 was not released at the time of the Continuum 1.93 release. Note: Some Partners and Branches have installed Windows 7 SP1 and have not reported any specific issues running Continuum or Webclient 1.93.  Some PSS engineers are also running SP1 without issues.   Continuum / WebClient v1.94 QA has tested and qualified v1.94 for use with Windows 7 SP1. The note of this qualification was omitted from the Compatibility Matrix that was first released. The Matrix will be updated to reflect this new qualification for Continuum / WebClient v1.94.

How do you sort the displayed list of applications and folders within a WorkPlace Tech project?

Issue How do you sort the displayed list of applications and folders within a WorkPlace Tech project?  There does not seem to be any order to the displayed files and folders. Environment WorkPlace Tech Tool version 4.x WorkPlace Tech Tool version 5.x.x Cause The initial display order for the folders and files contained in the WorkPlace Tech project is a function of Windows and its searching processes.  Files added to the project as a group appear in alphabetical order, top to bottom.  Folders added to a project as a group are added in reverse alphabetical order.  Any new folders and or files will automatically be added to the top of the project list.  When a group of folders or files are added to the project, they will be ordered as described above.  There is no option for reordering the order of the files and folders in the displayed contents of an existing project Resolution The easiest solution to this issue is to import the existing group of application files and folders into a new project.  Use the following procedure: Open WorkPlace Tech (WPT) and create a new project. Close WPT Open the existing project folder using the Windows Explorer. Select all files and folders in that project folder and copy them to the new project folder. Open WPT and open the new project. Add the existing files and folders to the new application using the following steps: Open "Add Application To Project". Select the "Unassigned File" tab Make sure all files shown are selected. Click the [OK] button to add the selected applications and folders to the project. This process orders all application files in alphabetical order and all folders into reverse alphabetical order.  All applications contained in folders are also placed in alphabetical order.

Microsoft part numbers for operating systems and SQL Server products.

Issue Why doesn't Schneider Electric Product Support publish the Microsoft part numbers that correspond to the descriptions of the Operating Systems and SQL Server products listed in the Product Compatibility Matrix?  Environment CyberStation SQL Servers IIS Servers Cause Customer's IT Department wants partner to provide Microsoft part numbers, instead of descriptions, for required operating systems and SQL Server. Resolution One reason (and there may be more) why Microsoft part numbers are not documented with the Product Compatibility Matrix is that Microsoft has volume license agreements and other variables that cause the part numbers to be different for what Schneider Electric views as the same product.

Is there anything we can do to eliminate the unsolicited messages the UNC is receiving from the attached GCM?

Issue Frequently see Java.lang.Exception errors in the UNC error log or Standard output window that reads, in part,      "At tridiumx.gcm.GcmUnsolicitedReceive.run (bytecode xxx)" Environment I/A Series R2 UNC I/A Series GCM 84xxx or GCM 86xxx connected to UNC Cause The GCM does send unsolicited messages all the time, more or less depending on how you have the logging configured in the GCM. Depending on the source of the message, some will simply be reported to the Standard Output Window as "Unsolicited GCM message received" or "Processing Unsolicited Message"'. Other messages will be reported as a part of an error message written to the Standard Output Window and / or the Error log. Resolution You can minimize these messages by insuring that none of the print groups in the GCM are configured to use the serial port to which the UNC is connected. You also need to confirm that all of the Exception Print Flags in the GCM are set to NO. The remaining messages that cannot be eliminated are almost always GCM Network communications protocol messages that have no meaning to the UNC.

Under ideal conditions how long should it take for a Graphic panel to update it's active objects with live values based on the number of active links?

Issue Under ideal conditions how long should it take for a Graphic panel to update it's active objects with live values based on the number of active links? Environment Continuum v1.94 Pinpoint Cause Site Graphics seem to be taking a long time to update all active objects. Not sure how quick this should be in an ideal environment. Resolution Initial testing was done with a LAN configuration, SQL Server 2008 with two Cyberstations, and one bCX1 controller. Three graphics were created, one with 100 active object links to numerics on the bCX1, one with 200 active links, and  one with 300 active links. (Note that we suggest a maximum of 100 active objects per graphic for stability and speed). See article #11478 . When viewing these graphics on one Workstation at a time it was taking on average about 1s per 5 objects to initially load all values the first time the graphic was opened. 100 object graphic - 20 seconds 200 object graphic - 40 seconds 300 object graphic - 50 - 60 seconds After the initial pass was complete though, any subsequent updates were updating in 1 - 2 seconds after the values were being changed. (Note that each active objects update rate was still at the default 1000ms setting).

DC/DM points in subLAN devices

Issue Technical Support Services occasionally receives calls concerning the use of DC/DM points in the Micro Regulator product line. The use of DC/DM points in MRs is possible but only when certain guidelines are followed. Environment SubLAN controllers MRs UCs Cause The functionality of the DC/DM points depends on what is actually controlling the DC point. If you use any of the extensions that reside only in the MRI, MCI or I/SITE LAN, etc., to control the DC point you will not have a problem. These extensions include: Time Scheduling, Temperature Control, Calculations and Event Sequences . As long as one of these editors controls the state of the DC point you should not see a problem with the functionality of the DC/DM points. Where you run into trouble is when an MR resident editor controls the DC point. These include all of the modules found in the MR Resident DDC editor, (PID, Floating, Two Position, Relay, Reset, Calculation module). If the state of a DC point is controlled by any of the MR resident DDC modules the associated DM point will always alarm in one state or the other. The same is true for the UCI/UC product line in that a DC point can not be controlled by a UC resident editor. This includes everything under the Unitary Control editor, (VAV, AHU, PID, FLT, HPMP ). In fact, currently if an attempt is made to enter a DC point in any of these editors an error is generated which will not allow such an entry, (this error is not generated in the MR Resident DDC editor). Resolution If you need positive feedback like that provided by the DC/DM points please follow the guidelines set below: Create Control Description and State Description Parameters: Refer to figure 1 and 2. Create an External DO point for Fan Control. Refer to Figure 3. Create an External DI point for Fan Status. Refer to Figure 4. Create an Internal DA Point for Fan Alarm. Refer to Figure 5.  Create a Calculation for the DA point: Refer to Figure 6. Anytime the Fan Control DO and the Fan Status DI follow each other’s state, the calculation remains True. If the DO does not equal the DI State, then the calculation becomes False. This results in an Alarm after the Time Delay of the DA has been met. The Time Delay acts in the same manner as the Time to State for a DM point. Please note if the DI 0 state was ON (the opposite of the DO), the calculation would be P0=~P1 .   *MSG* 09/21/95 12:34:29 Thu Control descriptions and commands Host 00 (CSI) Link 02 [78020] DCU 29 [DCU 7798] Enter up to 4 characters:  # Description Command Delay --+-----------+-------+-----  0 STRT 1 0  1 STOP 0 0  2 0 0  3 0 0  4 0 0  5 0 0  6 0 0  7 0 0  8 0 0  9 0 0 10 0 0 11 0 0 12 0 0 13 0 0 14 0 0 15 0 0 Figure 1: Control Description and commands *MSG* 09/21/95 12:35:14 Thu State descriptions Host 00 (CSI) Link 02 [78020] DCU 29 [DCU 7798] Enter up to 4 characters: # Description # Description --+----------- --+----------- 0 OFF 16 1 ON 17 2 ALRM 18 3 NORM 19 4 20 5 21 6 22 7 23 8 24 9 25 10 26 11 27 12 28 13 29 14 30 15 31 Figure 2: State descriptions *MSG* 09/21/95 12:36:19 Thu Resident I/O points Host 00 (CSI) Link 02 [78020] DCU 29 [DCU 7798] Point 0000 (02290000 DO) Enter up to 16 characters: Parameter Value Parameter Value ---------------------------------------- ------------------+-------- Point name Fan Control Distribution group 1 Point class Ext Distribution mask -------- Scan interval (seconds) 60 Alarm priority - Global level Local Message priority - State description 0 Cell number 0 Control description 0 Restart control action Reinforce Minimum trip (minutes) 0 Minimum close (minutes) 0 Three-state output N Figure 3: Resident I/O points *MSG* 09/21/95 12:36:19 Thu Resident I/O points Host 00 (CSI) Link 02 [78020] DCU 29 [DCU 7798] Point 0000 (02290000 DI) Enter up to 16 characters: Parameter Value Parameter Value ---------------------------------------- ------------------+-------- Point name Fan Status Distribution group 1 Point class Ext Distribution mask -------- Scan interval (seconds) 10 Alarm priority - Global level Local Message priority - State description 0 Cell number 0 Number of bits 1 Supervision None Figure 4: Resident I/O points *MSG* 09/21/95 12:38:56 Thu Resident I/O points Host 00 (CSI) Link 02 [78020] DCU 29 [DCU 7798] Point 0009 (02290009 DA) Enter up to 16 characters: Parameter Value Parameter Value ---------------------------------------- ------------------+-------- Point name Fan Alarm Distribution group 1 Point class Int Distribution mask Y------- Scan interval (seconds) 10 Alarm priority Priority Global level Local Message priority Priority State description 2 Cell number 0 Number of bits 1 Normal state 1 Alarm delay (seconds) 120 Supervision None Figure 5: Resident I/O points *MSG* 09/21/95 12:39:57 Thu Calculations Host 00 (CSI) Link 02 [78020] DCU 29 [DCU 7798] Point 0009 (Fan Alarm) Enter point address or name: Equation --------------------------------------------------------------------------- P0=P1 Operand Point Operand Constant -------+---------------- -------+---------------- P0 Fan Control P1 Fan Status Figure 6: Calculations   The above calculation will return the following DA conditions depending on the state of the DO and DI DO DI DA OFF OFF NORM ON OFF ALRM OFF ON ALRM ON ON NORM

What is the maximum number of Access Events a controller can hold?

Issue The AccessEventSize system variable determines the number of events to retain in a controller when it goes offline, what is the largest value you can enter? Environment Access Control systems using the Netcontroller II (9680) and ACX57xx (5740, 5720) Cause When designing an access control system, it is often required to know how many access events a controller will retain if the network connection to the workstations is lost. Resolution There is no fixed maximum number you can enter in the EventLogSize, it is dependent on the available free memory in the controller (Freemem). Typically you should have enough available memory be able to enter a maximum value between 100,000 and 170,000, but this will use up the majority of the controllers available memory. This may be OK if you are only doing Access control with the controller, but if you are also doing: BMS functions then you may have requirements to store logged data for temperatures etc.  Or you may be using X Drivers with thousands of numeric points           These would all use up the free memory and may only allow you to hold a few thousand events.  You have the flexibility to set the value, but the controller will not allow you to enter values that would exceed its available memory.
