Loytec NIC709-USB causes WorkPlace Tech 5.X to freeze

Issue When using the LOYTEC NIC709-USB100 LON Interface every time an attempt is made to connect to an MNL controller via WorkPlace Tech 5.X it gives an error "installing device driver" and causes the PC to lock up. Product Line TAC IA Series Environment WorkPlace Tech 5.x Loytec NIC709-USB LON interface Cause WorkPlace Tech 5.x is not compatible with Loytec LON interfaces. Resolution Only Echelon LON interfaces are supported in WorkPlace Tech 5.x due to it utilizing the Echelon Open LDV driver. The WorkPlace Tech installation instructions notes the following as part of the hardware requirements:- Echelon™ LonTalk™ adapter card, WPA-LON-x. Since many newer notebook computers do not have a PCMCIA card slot and therefore must use a USB LON interface an Echelon U10 USB interface (75010R) can be utilized. Also see Can a LON PCC-10 PCMCIA card work in a laptop with an express card slot? for an adaptor that can be used to convert PCMCIA to Express card.

Automation Server IP protection. Measures in the AS to protect the system in cases of network broadcast storm or DoS attacks.

Issue What are the measures in the AS to protect the system in cases of network broadcast storm or Denial of Service attacks? Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Automation Server Premium Building Operation Automation Server Cause Offline alarms received after excessive network traffic observed. Resolution The firmware in the AS will temporarily shut down its Ethernet connection when exposed to a broadcast storm or DoS attack in order to protect the application in terms of control programs and IO. A side effect of this is that the communication to external IP devices is temporarily unavailable during the storm/attack. The Automation Server will log the network storm event in its log journal file. (see screenshot below)

Replacement of Satchwell VSF or VJF Valve Body controlled by Satchwell Spring Return Actuator due to obsolescence.

Issue Satchwell VSF or VJF Valve Body controlled by Satchwell Spring Return Actuator requires replacement. Environment Satchwell VSF or VJF Valve Body installed in Water or Steam Control Valve applications. Cause Obsolescence of Satchwell VSF or VJF Control Valve Body. Resolution STEAM APPLICATION 1.  Replace Satchwell VSF or VJF Valve Body with S-E Two-Port Flanged Valve Body. Where an existing Satchwell VSF or VJF Valve Body is utilised in a STEAM application, then the VSF or VJF Valve Body should be replaced by a suitably sized S-E VGS211F Valve Body, thus enabling steam having a steam inlet pressure up to 1300 kPa and a temperature up to 200 deg C to be controlled. It should be noted however that the face-to-face dimension and overall dimensions of each S-E Valve Body will differ to those of the Satchwell VSF or VJF Valve Body. It should also be noted that the operation of the VGS211F Valve Spindle is the reverse of that of the VSF or VJF Valve Spindle. When the VGS211F Valve Spindle is UP, or in the fully extended position, then the Valve is OPEN. Similarly, when the VGS211F Valve Spindle is DOWN, or in the fully retracted position, then the Valve is CLOSED This will therefore result in the need to replace the existing Satchwell Actuator with the correct model of S-E M700 Actuator, in order to ensure the correct operation of the Valve Body in the event of electrical power failure. It is important that the above limitations are recognised when replacing a Satchwell VSF or VJF Valve Body with a S-E VGS211F Valve Body in retrofit projects. Such limitations do not apply to new projects where a new S-E VGS211F Valve Body and a new S-E  M700 Actuator are being selected, providing of course that an Actuator having the correct spring action in the event of electrical power failure is selected. N.B. Steam Control Valves are normally required to CLOSE in the event of electrical power failure. In the case of the S-E VGS211F therefore the S-E M700 SRSD Actuator should be selected. WATER APPLICATION 1.  Replace Satchwell VSF or VJF Valve Body with S-E Two-Port Flanged Valve Body. A number of alternative models of S-E Two-Port Flanged Valve Bodies are available to replace existing Satchwell VSF or VJF Two-Port Flanged Valve Bodies. It should be noted however that the face-to-face dimension and overall dimensions of each S-E Valve Body will differ to those of the Satchwell VSF or VJF Valve Body.

Reset the memory in an I/NET ASC Controller

Issue ASC stopped communicating Continuous Lost/Restore Reset the memory in an ASC Controller Product Line TAC INET Environment I/NET SubLAN Controllers All ASC Controllers Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support for assistance. Cause When the MR-AHU resides on a communication sub-LAN, it is susceptible to communication errors from external sources. These communication errors could result in corruption of the ASC's NOVRAM. When this occurs, the ASC will stop communicating, or will cause continuous Lost/Restore messages. For this reason, the ASC is provided with a means of clearing its NOVRAM. Caution: Clearing the MR-AHU memory causes the binary instruction set for the controller to be deleted. In order to reload the binary instruction set, you must have a TAC I/NET host with the appropriate UPD files, and the ASC Controller must be communicating through an interface controller (MRI, MCI, or I/SITE LAN). Resolution Prior to clearing NOVRAM of the ASC and you are using MR-VAV's and they have already been balanced, VAV parameters must be recorded (screenshot may be the quickest method). Follow the following steps to RESET the device  Remove power from the ASC. Set DIP switches 6 through 12 to the "On" position and restore power. Remove power again. Set DIP switches 6 through 12 to the "Off" position and restore power. Remove power again and reset the switches to their normal configuration. Normal communication should be restored to the ASC. If not, then the problem lies elsewhere. Once communication is restored, perform an "ASC Update" from the TAC I/NET host to restore the NOVRAM image to the ASC. Refer to the TAC I/NET System Operator Guide for ASC Update instructions.

Completely removing the obsolete TrendLog objects from the EBO servers and the Extended Log Storage (PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB) database.

Issue When EBO servers (ES & AS) no more need to keep the unnecessary TrendLog objects, the obsolete objects need to be deleted from EBO servers, and their log data need to be removed from the Extended Log Storage (PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB) server as well.  Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Enterprise Server Building Operation Automation Server External Log Storage PostgreSQL (pgAdmin 4) TimescaleDB  Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support for assistance. Cause Deleting the obsolete TrendLog objects from EBO servers does not remove the old log data of the obsolete TrendLogs left in the PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB database. Resolution Once the obsolete TrendLog objects are deleted from EBO servers, their log data are no longer saved in the PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB. The next task is removing the old log data left in the PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB database.   1. As always, backup current EB & AS’s databases from EBO workstation.   2. As always, backup the current PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB database and save to a safe location. Backup the “ebo_db” from the PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB server using the pgAdmin 4 (refer to https://www.pgadmin.org/docs/pgadmin4/development/backup_dialog.html , or refer to page 8 “Backup” section of the “EBO External Log Storage Installer.pdf” document for detail).  3.Remove the obsolete TrendLog from the PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB database (the “ebo_db”). Method_1: Delete the EBO TrendLog object from ES & AS’s & TimescaleDB using EBO workstation. (1) From the EBO workstation, expand the folder (location) of the TrendLog object, and delete the TrendLog object. (2) From the EBO workstation, go to the TimescaleDB folder (/Server 1/System/External Log Storage/TimescaleDB/Trend /Logs/Tree View), and delete the Trendlog object from PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB database. (3) Verify the TrendLog disappears from both the EBO and the PostgreSQL/Timescale DB.   Method_2: If the above Method1 takes a long time to complete, you can delete the TrendLog objects from PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB database directly.  (1) From the EBO workstation, expand the folder (location) of the TrendLog object, and delete the TrendLog object. (Same as item (1) of the above Method_1) (2) From the PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB server, run the pgAdmin 4, select the “ebo_db”, open the “Query Tool”, and execute the below scripts: Find the ID of the obsolete TrendLog from the trend_meta table. Select Externallogid, source from trend_meta where sources like '%TrendLog Name or Path%' Remove the TrendLog from the 2 tables using the above found Externallogid as below. Delete from trend_data where externallogid = 1234567890 Delete from trend_meta where externallogid = 1234567890 (3) Verify the TrendLog disappears from both the EBO and the PostgreSQL/Timescale DB.

How to configure Modbus TCP-IP Xdriver for CLIENT or SERVER operation.

Issue  The Modbus TCP-IP XDriver can function as either a TCP Client or a TCP Server but not both at the same time. Environment Cyberstation Continuum Controllers Cause Documentation Resolution  It is the XDriver points themselves that define the mode of the driver, in every point created, Parameter 2 should be set to either “0” for Client Mode OR to “1” for Server mode. You can’t use both in one driver. ALSO, in Client mode you need to create the Remote Device Status point, one per server, but it is Parameter 2 in the points that determines the client/ Server mode. QUESTION: If the XDriver can only operate in one mode (client or server) why does each point need to be configured with the mode type? ANSWER: There is a historical reason for this, the original design envisioned the support of both client and server points simultaneously, but for reasons that are well beyond the scope of this article this was changed to support only one mode at a time.

Enterprise Server does not start with SQLLite error 778

Issue ES does not start. In the error log, the following errors are present: nsp.util.SQLite SQLite: Error. Error code: 778 nsp.util.SQLite SQLITE: Unrecoverable error. Will exit(1).' Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Enterprise server Cause If the hard drive is damaged or full, the Enterprise Server will not be able to write data to the disk and the error log will contain error 778. This error means: (778) SQLITE_IOERR_WRITE The SQLITE_IOERR_WRITE error code is an extended error code for SQLITE_IOERR indicating an I/O error in the VFS layer while trying to write into a file on disk. This error might result from a hardware malfunction or because a filesystem came unmounted while the file was open. This error should not occur if the filesystem is full as there is a separate error code (SQLITE_FULL) for that purpose. Resolution Change the hard drive or clear out some data depending on what the issue is.

Vista Workstation Error: 'No such entity' in value column

Issue Vista Workstation Errors: 'No such entity' , sometimes accompanied with  'Could not parse blueprint' and 'Failed to parse application' error messages in alarm pane. Error occurred: Failed to retrieve property from database. The property page will be disabled. No such entity Environment Vista Workstation Menta OP tree Cause There is a mismatch between the .mta in the Xenta and the .mta in the Vista database. Vista asks for a value that does not exist in the device and errors. Unused constants in the Menta file Error in the OP tree Transfer of the .mta to the controller upon download was invalid or failed. Memory is low or has been totally consumed in the Xenta programmable controller. PVR blocks that have invalid values, eg. 2,0E-16 or similar. This can happen sometimes if you save in simulation mode in Menta Resolution Most common: If all of the signals are showing "No Such Entity", this is a sign that the controller does not contain a Menta file. Though you may think it should, it does not. The following are reasons why the controller did not download or is applicationless. Applicationless controllers require a "direct connect" and download to the controller. Errors in OP NOTE: if you've customized the OP menu, changes will be lost In Menta editor, Tools>OP Configuration, Tree>test. Test to see if there are errors in the OP tree. Tree>Build and select "Yes" to replace the current tree. Tree >Generate. Tree>Test. This will verify your errors have been fixed. Save the OP file. In simulation mode select Command>Generate, File>Save to Vista database or save the Menta file to your hard drive with the intention of manually browsing in the .mta to the device. Incorrect .mta in the Vista Database Browse in a newly saved .mta, Download the controller. Application Too Large Downloading through Vista may appear to be successful though an error exists. Using a serial connection is the most reliable way to reveal memory errors. Use one or more of the following to free up memory in a Xenta which is "Out of Memory". Checked the free memory in Menta via Options>Memory Usage and make sure that the Application is not too big Reduce application size by limiting the amount of "public" values and "descriptions" by un-checking public in the Menta block properties and deleting the description. Delete unnecessary not connected outputs (TANVO's) Delete the OP Menu if it is not needed. Alternatively, build the OP Tree instead of Auto Generating one for a smaller file. Time schedules/charts consume significant amount of memory. Check all TSCH blocks and delete any unnecessary Week/Alt charts. Replace the Xenta controller with a larger capacity controller (from a X280 to X300 or from X300 to X400) Re-write your program to use all Menta blocks more efficiently. Split the task among controllers but keep in mind limitations with TAC network variables and network traffic. Invalid Values In Menta, go to simulation mode Go to Preferences uncheck view diagram Now you get all the signals in a list that you can easily scroll through and find any value that are to small or large Change the value to the real value Hit F5 and F12 and save in edit more.   If only some of the signals are showing "No Such Entity" there is a mismatch of what signal values are trying to be retrieved from the controller, and the signals that are actually present in the controller. This is known as Unused Constants. Unused Constants In Menta, go to Options>Constants Tables and choose "Delete Unused" to remove all orphan variables Download to the controller.

Is it possible to have a link on a GxPage to run an executable file to launch an external application outside of the web browser?

Issue Is it possible to have a link on a GxPage to run an executable file to launch an external application outside of the web browser? Product Line TAC IA Series Environment I/A Series R2 graphics Firefox web browser Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support Services for assistance. Cause To launch an external application via a link on graphics page in a web browser. Resolution It is not possible to launch an external application from an I/A Series R2 GxPage. Two suggested workarounds are as follows. Create a hyperlink on a GxPage that links to a standard HTML web page. There would be a link to run a script on the standard HTML page to launch the external application. If the site graphics has a HTML tree created, create a new link in the tree which will run a script to launch an external application. * Take note that the HTML web page with the script link has to reside on the same computer as the external application. As an example the following script and procedure which will launch an external application in a Firefox web browser. In this case, the script will launch Windows notepad.exe. This method has been provided as a workaround but you should use and troubleshoot any information given below at your own discretion. Example of a script to launch an Notepad in Firefox: Right Click on this link and select "Save target as" to download this script as a text file We also need to configure Firefox to allow Java script to run. Run Firefox and type in 'about:Config' at the address field. Set the 'signed.applets.codebase_principle_support' to true. Be careful not to make any other changes. NOTE: This script and browser configuration may or may not work in other web browsers. Further changes may be required for this functionality in any other web browser other than Firefox.

In this particular case, these BACnet objects are not required to be displayed on graphic pages and thus they are not linked to any Gx objects.  being viewed Resolution Create GxText objects in the PollOnDemand container and link the BACnet objects' outputs to the GxText objects. With this, the BACnet objects will be polled when the PollOnDemand container is viewed.

CyberStation SQL collation

Issue What SQL collation is supported by CyberStation Product Line Andover Continuum Environment CyberStation SQL Server Cause Which SQL collations are supported by CyberStation. Resolution Only the SQL_1xCompat_CP850_CI_AS collation has been tested with CyberStation. Note: In more recent versions of SQL server (i.e 2005), you can have the Collation on a per-database basis so ContinuumDB will have its collation set to SQL_1xCompat_CP850_CI_AS and another database can use a different collation setting. Also when the continuum database is restored it will retain the original collation that it was created with.

Pulse Width Modulation applications with triac digital outputs speed limitations

Issue With triac digital outputs, such as those in the i2866-V, what is the fastest they can switched for Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) applications? Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Continuum controllers with triac digital outputs. Cause Require information on using triac outputs for Pulse Width Modulation control. Concerns over minimum pulse times and frequent switching. Resolution The triac outputs on some Continuum controllers (such as the i2866-V) will be able to perform pulse width modulation from a minimum of 0.1s pulses. As apposed to relays, outputs using triac's have negligible wear and tear during extended use. Switching the outputs frequently, such as once a second, should not cause any premature failure issues.  Further data on the triac outputs on the i2866-V: Specification sheet Installation Guide for wiring details. i2 Technical Reference Manual
