Configuring sites that are located in different time zones in Continuum

Issue Is it necessary to create a separate Continuum network for a site located in a different time zone, even if it's the only one outside the Time Zone? Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Continuum system with sites across multiple time zones UTC time zone configuration Continuum Networks Cause The site in question operates in a different time zone than the rest of the sites being integrated into the Continuum system. This discrepancy can lead to complications in data logging, scheduling, and alarm management. Resolution While it is technically possible to manage schedules locally and have alarms timestamped according to the local time zone, these approaches are not optimal for system-wide operations in Continuum. Extended logs become difficult to manage when data points are logged by a controller in Time Zone A and then accessed by a CyberStation in Time Zone B. This mismatch can lead to confusion and inefficiencies in interpreting historical data. For this reason, it is not advisable to place controllers from different time zones under a single Continuum Network. Extended logs are stored in the database using UTC timestamps. CyberStation interprets these logs through reports or groups, which can lead to inconsistencies if time zones are not aligned across the network. Recommendation To ensure consistent data logging and system behavior, create separate Continuum networks for sites operating in different time zones.

Getting invalid facets for a couple of points on a Niagara G3 server running version 3.3.22. As a result, the points won't add to the station.

Issue A 3rd party BACnet/MSTP controller was added to an existing ENC-520 running version 3.5.25.  All points from the controller were added to the ENC station successfully.  When adding these new points to the server, most of the points added except for two.  An 'invalid facets' error gets generated for the two points.  The points that were added successfully were pressure, temperature, and speed points.  The two points that did not add were flow points.  The server is running version 3.3.22. Environment Niagara G3 3.3.22 and 3.5.25 Cause The default engineering units changed between versions 3.3 and 3.5. Resolution Replace the units.xml file (lib folder) in the 3.3.22 server with the units.xml file from a 3.5 server.  Restart the station.  The points should now add successfully.

How to properly setup links in configuration profile? What do system and hardware mean?

Issue How to properly setup links in configuration profile? What do system and hardware mean? Environment I/NET Site Cause How to properly setup links in configuration profile? What do system and hardware mean? Resolution The only time a link is defined is when you have cable connected to the computer's serial port which then connects to a tap or modem. If there is no tap or modem connected to THIS computer, you DO NOT assign a link and the link type is ""none"". When the link type is direct, INET is looking for the dip switch address of the Link tap. This is the address you use in the "hardware" field. If you are connecting to a 78010 tap which connects directly to a controller lan, the hardware address IS 0 because it is performing the functions of the Link tap. It's obviously 0 as well when you are connecting to the emulated tap of a controller because it connects directly to the controller lan. If the 78010 connects to a host lan (not to be confused with an ethernet lan), INET is looking for the dipswitch address of the 78020 or 051 taps. They are the link taps.

Cannot see NPR across a wide area network

Issue Cannot see an NPR across a wide area network (WAN) Product Line TAC INET Environment NetPlus Router (NPR) Wide Area Network (WAN) Cause There are several reasons why this may occur: The Cisco/3Com/etc. routers are doing network address translation (NAT) The network uses Variable Length Subnet Masking (VLSM) and the routers use Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR). See the other FAQ on this.  The correct reference host is not specified in the configuration profile. The correct reference host is specified, but that profile was not set to active. The wrong subnet mask was used. Resolution For issues with VLSM and CIDR (Cause 2 above), see Can NPR 2000s be installed on a network that implements VLSM and CIDR. In any other case, see Customer Advisory 2003.

UNC/ENC Tunneling to ASD Bus: Prevent XPSI Timeout Errors by Setting Baud Rate to 1200

Issue When tunneling through a UNC (Niagara R2) or ENC (Niagara G3) to an ASD bus using XPSI, communication timeout errors occur. Product Line TAC IA Series Environment PSI/XPSI software (any version) UNC (R2) or ENC (G3) with ASD bus connected Serial tunnel client (R2 or G3) Cause Delays introduced by the Internet between the PSI/XPSI computer and the remote tunnel client can result in communication timeout errors. These delays affect the ASD bus communication speed. Resolution Set the baud rate of PSI/XPSI to 1200 to minimize or eliminate timeout errors: Open PSI/XPSI software. Navigate to Site Setup Configuration. Set Baud Rate = 1200 as recommended in the TAC I/A Series Enhanced ASD Driver Engineering Guide (F-27429, Chapter 5, Table 5.1). How do I read the feedback voltage from a DuraDrive actuator (MS4x / MS5x series) with MNL / MNB controllers

Issue DuraDrive actuator feedback is 0-10 VDC or 2-10 VDC, controllers accept 0-5 VDC. Environment DuraDrive actuator (MS4x / MS5x series) MNL / MNB controllers Cause The voltage feedback output was designed for controlling slave actuators configured for 0-10 VDC or 2-10 VDC control signals. Resolution Use two 10k resistors as a voltage divider across the feedback leads with the center point connected to the controller input and the actuator common connected to the controller common. NOTE: Not all actuators in this product family use the wire colors shown for the feedback output. Please refer to the actuator GI sheet for the correct colors.    MNL / MNB Controller Analog Input Configuration For actuators with a 0 VDC to 10 VDC feedback output: Type= Volts Linput = 0 Lscale = 0 Hinput = 5 Hscale = 100 This input configuration provides a 0 - 100% output corresponding to the Actuator Position, based on feedback voltage 0 VDC = 0% and 10 VDC = 100% of actuator travel.  For actuators with a 2 VDC to 10 VDC feedback output: Type= Volts Linput = 1 Lscale = 0 Hinput = 5 Hscale = 100 This input configuration provides a 0 - 100% output corresponding to the Actuator Position, based on feedback voltage 2 VDC = 0% and 10 VDC = 100% of actuator travel.

If a MNB-1000 application contains R-I/O programming, can it be successfully downloaded without the actual R-I/O hardware connected and communicating?

Issue If a MNB-1000 application contains R-I/O programming, can it be successfully downloaded without the actual R-I/O hardware connected and communicating? Environment MNB-1000 Remote I/O Module Cause Communication lost between MNB-1000 and Remote I/O module  Resolution Yes. The R-I/O modules (MNB-1000-15) are not controllers and do not have control applications within them. All processing is done at the MNB-1000 (except fallback). Lack of R-I/O or R-I/O communications or loss of R-I/O communications has no effect on or during a download. In fact, the MNB-1000 cannot communicate with or even determine if R-I/O exists until an application configured for R-I/O has been downloaded at least once. This is because the R-I/O configuration information is stored in the application and the MNB-1000 must rely on the application to know if R I/O modules even exist.

Configuring a button to run a vbscript in webpinpoint

Issue At times running a vbscript from webpinpoint is needed and you may receive an error after configuring the button that webpinpoint cannot find the vbscript you are trying to run. Environment Webclient Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows Server 2003 Windows Server 2008 Cause There is some configuration and file placement required to get this to work. Resolution Create a button on a graphic in Continuum and set it up as follows: Action Start windows program Windows Program c:\windows\system32\wscript.exe Command line argument (Hello.vbs is an example script) Hello.vbs (This is the vbscript you are trying to run) If you only place hello.vbs in the system32 folder you will get an error when pressing the button in webpinpoint that it can’t find c:\program Files\Webclientpinpoint Copy hello.vbs to c:\program Files\Webclientpinpoint The script should now launch. Caveat: This was a very basic test, not all vbscripts may launch depending on their content. Warning! Allowing vbscripts to run in IIS and on websites is potentially dangerous because viruses and malicious software can be introduced this way.
