Unable to commission an I/O module

Issue I/O modules that cannot be successfully commissioned Is there a procedure to test these or any resets or checks to do before sending the IOU back for repairs?   Environment CX96xx I/O Module Cause Unable to commission I/O module. Resolution FLASHING STATUS LIGHT This indicates that the Neuron chip in the module has undergone a partial commissioning and that it has calculated an invalid checksum in its flash chip.  This could happen due to communications problems on the IOU bus, either during module commissioning or during a NetController reload (which also de-commissions and re-commissions the modules). If you are experiencing this problem, do not return the modules to the Repair department. We have added a routine in the NetController to automatically detect and correct this condition. You can download the new NetController flash file and upgrade your NetController in the field. This will automatically correct any IOU modules that have this condition. To avoid this issue, you should also verify that your controllers and IOU modules are installed per the installation instructions, paying careful attention to bus topology, bus terminations, network cable, and grounding. Please note when adding multiple IOU modules that exhibit the behavior described above, to add and commission the modules onto the system one at a time.  SOLID STATUS LIGHT This indicates that the IOU module application flash is not present in the module. This could happen either due to the conditions described above or by a failure during the flash upgrade process.  These modules can be corrected in the field using one of the manual procedures described below: If the module was already commissioned on the NetController If the NetController has the module information in its memory, you should be able to flash the IOU firmware by editing the IOU object and selecting the “Update IOU” button. Then select the correct flash file for that module. If the module will not upgrade Connect the faulty module to a CX9xxx. With CyberStation online, create an IOU module.  Specify IOU number but not module ID. Save and close  the editor disregarding the error message. Set CyberStation offline. Edit the IOU module object inserting the module ID. Save and close the editor. Set CyberStation back online. Open the IOU module object, re-insert the module ID, select the Uprev button, and select a .upd file. When the uprev completes, commission the module. TAC product development has made a correction to this issue Click Here  in firmware version 1.530023. You should also read Technical Bulletin #1041 to make sure that you are using the correct IOU file.

Enable XDriver on a CX9200

Issue How to enable Xdriver on a CX9200 Environment Continuum Cyberstation CX9200 Cause When Infinity chips are installed on a CX9200 controller, it will not accept the XDriver upgrade cookie.  Attempting to change the commport configuration to Xdriver will return an error "Invalid Mode." Continuum chips are needed to properly apply the cookie. The controller can then be returned to Infinity by replacing the Continuum chip set. The Xdriver can then be used. Most commonly, the issue is due to the Infinity chip set not allowing the XDriver upgrade, but the chip set is not properly identified before the Xdriver upgrade is attempted. Resolution Enable an XDriver on an Infinity CX9200 must be accomplished from a dumb terminal connection: Log on to the controller via Hyperterminal Load -o -m with the XDriver cookie file provided by the repair department. Go to the Hyperterminal Transfer pull down menu and select "Send to Text File" and select the file as provided by Repair. Hit Enter to start the transfer. Send to database from the Continuum Explorer and only select the specific CX9200 controller. When the upgrade has completed, power down the controller, then repower the controller. Verify that the ACCSetEEVal string point in the CX9200 has been created. Check the Options tab of the Continuum controller editor and verify that the commport has been properly enabled for XDriver.

Controller always indicates that a backup to flash is needed.

Issue Shortly after a successful backup to flash the exclamation point appears again on the controller's icon in the Continuum explorer indicating that a backup to flash is needed. Environment CyberStation bCX9640 bCX4040 CX9680 ACX5740 ACX5720 Cause PE program changing configuration attributes. A setpoint changes value. Resolution Any changes to a configuration attribute will cause the database in the controller to be marked as needing backup up to flash. Also, if an object is configured as a setpoint, changing its value causes the database to be marked as needing backup to flash. Find and modify any PE programs that change configuration attributes (i.e. description, format)  and/or setpoint values.

Cyberstation workstation programs become disabled when user logs in to the workstation

Issue Cyberstation workstation programs become disabled when user logs in to the workstation Environment Continuum Cause If a Plain English program is running on a workstation and a user logs on to that workstation, who does not have the rights to perform the operations within the program, then the program may become disabled. Resolution 1. Always try to keep the programs on a workstation to a minimum. Controllers should always be used for programs where possible. 2. Add a Line E to keep the program enabled. 3. Security rights for all users can be increased to keep the programs running. 4. If a program on a workstation is trying to do something that the user does not have permission to do, then the program will disable Therefore the user rights for doing what the program is doing need to be increased for that user

Continuum controller goes offline, controller error log shows LAN_ERR_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL_ERROR and/or LAN_ERR_ALLOCATION_ERROR.

Issue Controller randomly goes offline and add entries in its error log indicating LAN_ERR_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL_ERROR and/or LAN_ERR_ALLOCATION_ERROR. Environment CX9680 ACX5740/20 Cause Typically this is caused by a problem with the link partner (hub or switch) or some kind of CAT5 issue. Resolution If you have other ACX controller on this switch that is working fine try swapping the ports (or move the controller to a different port) and see if the problem follows the port or the controller. If the switch is a smart switch that gives an error log, get the log from the switch and analyze it or send in for analysis. There is also a possibility that the NIC card in the controller is bad but that assumption can only be made after everything else has been eliminated.

DCX250 Touch Screen compatibility with main board.

Issue I have an older model DCX-250 that the touchscreen has dead spots on the screen but the main board and power supply are working fine. It was wondering if the newer touch screen is compatible with the main board and power I have for the older model DCX-250 Environment DCX - 250 Cause When replacing DCX250 Touch Screen in the field you must check compatibility of your Main board. Resolution The black inverter located on "U6" of the Main Boards PCB was changed out to a newer inverter.  The old style inverter will not work with the Touch screen. If you have the older inverter labeled E205-E821D then this will need to go back to repair to fix because the Touch Screen will not work with this older style inverter. If you have the black inverter that is labeled E2536 it is newer and you can just order a new touch screen from customer care.   Customer Care ordering website http://iportal2.schneider-electric.com Repair Department Contact Information Email: industrialrepair@schneider-electric.com

After installing Continuum, intermittent Communication issues on BACnet and Infinet BCX controllers

Issue After installing Continuum, intermittent Communication issues on BACnet and Infinet BCX controllers, graphics are not updating, and points may or may not be edited. Each of 3 workstations are exhibiting similar issues, but not with the same controllers. Workstation 1 may be able to edit points in BCX1, but not BCX2.  Workstation 2 may edit points in BCX2 but not BCX1. Environment LAN with SQL Server 2008, all workstations with XP service pack 3. Cause The workstations were initialized with Node ID's that were conflicting with the BCX node ID's. Resolution With one workstation logged into Cyberstation, the workstation objects were exported from a workstation that was logged out of Cyberstation. Once all required exports were completed, that workstation was deleted from the object tree. That workstation was then initialized with ID's that would not conflict with the BCX ID's. Cyberstation was then started on the newly re-configured workstation and graphics were tested, and points were edited without issue.

Door supervised input trouble.

Issue For doors with long wire run to the controller it is very important to follow the recommendations as far as resistor tolerance and wiring distance and gauge is concerned.  If a door still exhibits door switch trouble issues due to length etc. one possible solution is to use a resistance decade box to determine what value resistance should be used instead of the standard 10K ohms Environment AC1 AC1Plus CX9702 ACX5740 ACX5720 ACX701 ACX781 Cause Doors with extra long run to the IOU module / controller may produce trouble condition on the supervised inputs due to wiring issue; in some cases it may be necessary to replace the 10K ohms resistor with a different value to compensate for wiring. Please follow the procedure outline below to determine the correct resistor value to use. Resolution If a door exhibit supervised input trouble issues due to wire length etc. one possible solution is to use a resistance decade box to determine what value resistance should be used instead of the standard 10K ohms, when doing this it is important the find the resistance value in the middle of the range, this will avoid random trouble due to temperature variations etc if the value happens to be right at the edge of the range. To find the correct value use the following procedure: With the door closed start with the resistance decade box at 10K ohms. While monitoring the value of the input modify the resistance (either up or down) until the input reads CLOSED. Write down this resistance value. (VAL1) Continue to modify the resistance in the same direction until the input reads trouble again, write down this value. (VAL2) Pick a resistor value that is in the middle between VAL1 and VAL2 and use this value at the door instead of the standard 10K Ohms NOTE: for series/parallel resistor type it may be necessary to use two decade boxes to find the correct resistance value.
