Upgraded CyberStation distribution of Personnel records takes a long time, intermittent communication problems with field bus controllers

Issue Since I have upgraded my CyberStation it seems that my distribution of Personnel records takes a very long time. Also I have noticed that I am having intermittent communication problems with my field bus controllers, why is this happening? Environment Cyberstation Cause This could be caused by the new personnel distribution engine. The new personnel distribution system takes advantage of all the workstations running CyberStation to load balance the distribution so not just one workstation will do this. With this feature added it was also necessary to include settings to adjust to optimize the process. Below are the settings and where they can be found. Resolution Workstation preferences can be found on the Preferences tab of the workstation editor. Workstation preferences Line 19 (Added in the 1.62 Version of CyberStation) Enables and disables the immediate distribution of personnel records from this workstation to controllers on the local area network (LAN). A value of “True” is the default. When this feature is enabled, the workstation inspects the status of the database, and if there are pending personnel distribution transactions, it performs the distributions. When to disable this preference — Typically, you would set this preference to “False” if the workstation is running a lot of applications, such as graphics. If there are several workstations at this site, disabling it on the web server may result in better performance. It also gives you the choice of turning it off for a workstation that is shut down at the end of a day. When to enable this preference — Typically, you would set this preference to “True” for workstations that are dedicated servers (running 24 hours per day and seven days per week, typically in a back room) and for other workstations based on the number of distributions and throughput. The more workstations that are distributing, the faster the distribution occurs. NOTE: If you have too many workstations with the above set to true it could actually slow down the distribution to field bus controllers by overwhelming them from different workstations. This could result in slow or no response from field bus controllers when polling them for information. It also could result in very slow personnel distributions to the field bus controllers. It is recommended not to set this to true for all the workstations but only to set it true for a few. Workstation Preferences Line 20 (Added in the 1.62 Version of CyberStation) Enables and disables the immediate distribution of personnel records from this workstation to controllers on remote access services (RAS) networks. If there are no RAS networks on this site you want to make sure this setting is false, true is the default. This feature should only be set to “True” on workstations that have modems in them used to connect to remote sites. When this feature is enabled, the workstation inspects the status of the database, and if there are pending access distributions, it performs the distributions. General Preferences are found by right-clicking on the Infinity icon in the task tray and selecting General Preferences. General Preferences Line 12 (Added in the 1.73 version of CyberStation) Number of Concurrent Fieldbus Personnel Distributions — This is the number of concurrent personnel distributions that are sent from each workstation to controllers on each field bus network. The default (and minimum) value is 1. Maximum value is 4. This setting, which works in conjunction with setting 13, improves performance by preventing or large numbers of personnel records from flooding field bus controllers. General Preferences Line 13 (Added in the 1.73 version of CyberStation) Time Interval Between Fieldbus Personnel Distributions — This is the amount of time (in milliseconds) that CyberStation waits before it sends another personnel distribution to controllers on the same fieldbus network. The default value is 30. Minimum value is 0. Maximum value is 15000 (15 seconds). This setting, which works in conjunction with setting 12, improves performance by preventing large numbers of records from flooding field bus controllers. It is also useful when there are many workstations performing access distribution. (That is, set it higher if there are many workstations.)

Installing TAC Config on a PC that already has I/NET using MSDE SQL server installed.

Issue Installing TAC Config on a PC that already has I/NET using MSDE SQL server installed. Environment PC that already has I/NET using MSDE SQL server installed Cause The installation will ask if SQL server is already installed. This can be confusing if it is previously installed for I/NET. Since a new instance is required, the correct procedure is to install new. Resolution When you install TAC config, the installation program will ask you if you want to install MSDE SQL server or "a Microsoft SQL server is already installed." You have to pick "Install MSDE SQL server..." even though you already have one instance of MSDE. TAC config will install a new instance of MSDE for Vista. You should only pick “a Microsoft SQL server is already installed” if you have another (not MSDE) SQL server installed on the machine that you want to use for Vista.

What is the maximum number of Network Controllers (InfinityController object) that I can have in my Continuum Database?

Issue What is the maximum number of Network Controllers (InfinityController object) that I can have in my Continuum Database? Environment Continuum Cyberstation Cause Site expansion. What is the maximum number of Network Controllers (Netcontroller, ACX, etc...) that the system can grow too. Resolution There is no logical limit. Although you can only have up to 190 in one network folder. That is because the ACCNetID’s for controllers only go up to 190, after 190 controllers you will need to create a new Network object to house any new Network Controllers.

Economizer Function in Xenta 121

Issue When using the economizer (outside air damper) function in the Xenta 121, specific setup considerations are required to ensure proper operation and avoid equipment damage. Environment Xenta 121-FC Xenta 121-HP Vista Workstation ZBuilder Cause The economizer function relies on a mixed air temperature sensor to prevent excessive intake of cold air, which could freeze the coil. The application logic enforces this requirement and does not allow bypassing it through software configuration. Resolution Sensor Requirement A mixed air temperature sensor is mandatory when economizer mode is enabled. If a physical sensor is not available, a ~1.8K ohm resistor can be installed in its place to satisfy the software requirement. Control Methods The economizer can operate in one of two modes: Space Temperature Control – regulates based on cooling setpoint. Mixed Air Temperature Control – regulates based on mixed air setpoint. Note: Even when using space temperature control, the mixed air temperature sensor is still required for safety lockout. Displaying Mixed Air Temperature By default, the mixed air temperature is not shown on the front end. To display it: Open ZBuilder and go to the Configuration tab. Navigate to the SNVT menu. Check the box labeled nvoGenericTemp. A tooltip will confirm this is for displaying mixed air temperature. Switch to the I/O Setup tab. The Mixed Air Temperature point will now be visible and can be assigned to the desired location.

Can Extended Log data be removed from the Database by de-selecting the extended logging option in the point being logged or by deleting the point all together?

Issue Can Extended Log data be removed from the Database by de-selecting the extended logging option in the point being logged or by deleting the point all together? Environment Continuum Cause Need to reduce the size of the Database by removing stored Extended Log data. Resolution Any point data logged as Extended Log data will only be removed from the Database during an automatic purge or manual truncation of the tables. This extended log data does not get removed when extended logging is disabled or the point is deleted from the database, this data remains until removed. To setup automatic purging you'll need to go to your Continuum General Preferences. Right-click Continuum icon in task tray and select General Preferences, you will find an entry for "Extended Log Automatic Purge Interval (days)". This needs to have a number assigned to it to determine how many days of ExtendedLog data is retained in the ContinuumDB. If this is 0 then nothing is deleted and all data is retained (the suggested value for this is somewhere around 30 -90 days depending on your DB size restrictions and retention requirements).

There is no need to install the Continuum Reports "add-on" for versions 1.7 or higher

Issue Do I have to install the Continuum Reports "add-on" for versions 1.7 or higher? Environment Continuum Reports Cause Continuum supplies many Report templates that include attractive bar-chart templates, pie-chart templates, and trend templates - giving Reports a customized "look and feel." To use these templates (and thus, reports in general) you must import them during the Continuum installation process, in version 1.7 or higher. Resolution It is not necessary to install report add-ons for versions 1.7 or higher because this is done during the installation procedure. In the Database Initialization dialog, check the Create/Update Graphical Report Settings checkbox. (For more information, please see the Continuum Installation Guide, 30-3001-720.) If you do not check this checkbox then reports are not available.

Sigma - Globals Do Not Work When Using IP Address Structure 192.168.xxx.xxx with Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0

Issue Sigma global points are not functioning correctly when the IP address structure is 192.168.xxx.xxx with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 (16-bit mask). Product Line Satchwell BAS & Sigma Environment Satchwell Sigma Cause The issue arises due to a mismatch between the IP address class and the subnet mask used. Specifically: 192.168.xxx.xxx is a Class C IP address. Class C addresses require a minimum subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (24-bit). Using a Class B subnet mask (255.255.0.0) with a Class C address is invalid and leads to improper network segmentation. This misconfiguration disrupts the broadcast domain, preventing Sigma globals from functioning correctly. Resolution An IP address is divided into two main parts: Network ID Host ID The Subnet Mask determines how many bits are allocated to the Subnet ID and Host ID. Examples: Valid Configuration (Class C): IP Address: 192.168.0.1 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (24-bit) Subnet ID Bits: 0 Host ID Bits: 8 Broadcast Address: 192.168.0.255 Invalid Configuration (Class C with Class B Mask): IP Address: 192.168.xxx.xxx Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 (16-bit) This is invalid because Class C addresses require a minimum of 24-bit subnet masks. Valid Configuration (Class B): IP Address: 190.168.xxx.xxx Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 (16-bit) This is valid because 190.x.x.x falls within the Class B range. To ensure Sigma globals function correctly, choose one of the following options: Option 1: Use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (or greater) with the 192.168.xxx.xxx IP address range. Option 2: Change the IP address range to a Class B address (e.g., 190.168.xxx.xxx) to match the 255.255.0.0 subnet mask.

How do you "tunnel" through an ENC to the BACnet MS/TP devices under the ENC?

Issue How do you access BACnet MS/TP devices under an ENC without making a direct connection to the MS/TP bus?  Tunneling is supported with LON and ASD devices but there is no tunnel client for BACnet. Environment WorkPlace Tech Tool release 5.7.x or 5.8.x ENC with BACnet MS/TP devices Cause Want to connect WPT through the ENC to access the MS/TP network attached to the ENC. Resolution Tunneling is not required to access MS/TP devices under an ENC. Since the ENC is already a BACnet device because it has BACnet MS/TP devices connected to it, you can enable BACnet-IP or BACnet-Ethernet on the ENC.  Once either of these protocols have been enabled, the ENC then acts as a BACnet router allowing BACnet communications to the MS/TP devices directly via the ethernet connection to the ENC. To use the BACnet-IP interface via the ENC, you need to enable the BACnet IP port and enable routing in the BACnet Work Layer properties.  You also want to have "Poll Enabled" in the MstpPort properties.   Make sure that you have defined a different BACnet network number for the BACnetIP network and the BACnet MS/TP network.  To enable the BACnetIP interface you need to expand the BACnet communications tree and enable the port as shown in the following image.

Installed I/A Series G3 Workbench on a new computer with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and the host ID changes each time Workbench is started.

Issue Installed I/A Series G3 Workbench on a new computer with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and the host ID changes each time Workbench is started.  This has been seen on new Dell laptops and computers that have been provided a replacement hard drive with Dell operating system (Microsoft OS) installation disks. Environment I/A Series G3 build 3.4.xx, Enterprise Server, Workbench Cause Host IDs continuously change as the software does not have rights to write the encrypted host ID key into the registry. Resolution Locate the Niagara service and Workbench executables (niagarad.exe and wb.exe).  These files are located under the niagara's directory (bin folder).          Example: \niagara\niagara-3.x.xx\bin Right click and select properties for each executable. Select the compatibility tab and check the "Run this program as an administrator" privilege level checkbox.  The host ID is now allowed to be written to the registry by the software.

Access Expert Programming Holidays and Special Dates

Issue Need information on programming holidays and special dates Product Line EcoStruxure Access Expert Environment Access Expert Hosted software V3 Resolution Programming Holidays and Special Dates   Overview   Holidays are exceptions to a normally scheduled interval. Feenics has made several fundamental changes to the holidays within the Keep by Feenics System. This article will walk through how the new holiday sets work and how to implement them. The holidays apply globally to all schedules.   Updating    The launch of the new holiday system requires a system upgrade within your instance. This upgrade only needs to occur once and is irreversible. To upgrade, click the "Update Holidays" button.   Note: Before you begin converting holidays, there can be no more than 8 holiday sets in the older system for the update to work.   Once that button is clicked, a warning will pop up letting you know that the process is irreversible. Click OK and your instance will be updated.     ***Note: Customers within an Enterprise instance will need to apply this update to ALL shared instances and the Enterprise instance separately.   Adding Holidays   Holidays are added to the system through the "Add Holiday Duration" button. This will add a holiday interval to the system. Holiday Durations   Holiday Durations are days in the system on which, the schedules should not activate. To add a Holiday, click "Add Holiday Duration", then name the day. This day will prevent all schedules from activating unless added to the "Always Active On" column in a schedule. Holiday durations are limited to 255 per instance.  Display Name: The name of the holiday interval, i.e. Valentine's Day, Halloween, Veterans Day. Start Date: The date the holiday interval begins on. End Date: The date the holiday interval ends on. (If the start and end date match, the holiday will be for that day only). Special Date: This flag inverts the behaviour. If this holiday interval is assigned to a schedule interval (via Holiday Groups), the schedule interval will activate for that day. Holiday Group: This selection allows the user to group holiday intervals into sets.  Tags: As in the rest of keep, tags allow for organization and permissions to be set by these groupings.   Holiday Groups   Holidays can be grouped together by using holiday groups. These groups are edited by selecting the "Edit Holiday Groups" button and modifying the Group Name. Holiday intervals are then added to the group by assigning them in the Holiday Group column of the holiday interval. ***Note: The shared holidays between groups should be in their own group. This will allow the non-shared holidays to be applied to schedules correctly.   Applying Holidays   Holidays apply globally to all schedules. A holiday Group can be added to a schedule interval to tell that interval to ignore that holiday.   ***Note: If a holiday exception is added to a schedule interval, the schedule will activate on the day of the holiday, regardless of the day selection on the schedule interval. Special Dates   Special Dates can be used to activate a schedule interval for a day or group of days regardless of the other intervals within the schedule. To add a special date, open the Holidays page and add the day(s) as a holiday interval, then check the "Special Date" box. Add the special date(s) to a group on its own.
