Replacement of Satchwell ZKM series Rotary Actuator due to obsolescence.

Issue Satchwell ZKM series Rotary Actuator requires replacement due to obsolescence. Environment Satchwell ZKM Rotary Actuator installed on Satchwell MBF series Rotary Shoe Valve Body. Satchwell ZKM Rotary Actuator installed on Satchwell MZF series Plug and Seat Valve Body. Cause Obsolescence of Satchwell ZKM series Rotary Actuator Resolution OVERVIEW The Satchwell ZKM Actuator was compatible with both Satchwell MBF series Flanged Rotary Shoe Valve Bodies and Satchwell MZF series Flanged Plug and Seat Valve Bodies, subject to the installation of an appropriate Linkage Kit. Various models of the ZKM Actuator were available, each differing in the number and type of electrical interface provided, enabling the Actuator to be installed in a range of control applications. Interfaces included Transfer Switches, Auxiliary Switches and Feedback Potentiometers, thus resulting in differing wiring connection options between the ZKM Actuator and its associated Controller and other peripherals. Details of the numerous ZKM Actuator variations available may be viewed here. In view of the differing wiring connection options that may be found on site, it is intended to deal only with the most common 6-wire connection option here. Please therefore check the number of wires connected to the ZKM Actuator before proceeding, as this will assist in confirming the suitability of the ZKM Actuator 6-wire connection option replacement suggestion described here.   1. ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT The Actuator comprising a 6 wire electrical connection enabled it to be operated from a Satchwell Z Monotronic or CZT Climatronic Proportional Controller as follows :- Terminal 1 – Open signal Terminal 2 – Close signal Terminal 3 – Common Terminal A – 135 ohm Feedback Potentiometer – winding Terminal B – 135 ohm Feedback Potentiometer – wiper Terminal C – 135 ohm Feedback Potentiometer – winding If all 6 wires are connected then the ZKM Actuator may be replaced either by the Schneider Electric MD20A Actuator or the M800 Actuator, depending on the type of Valve Body to be controlled :- MBF ROTARY SHOE VALVE BODY APPLICATIONS :- MD20A-24 + Linkage Kit LMD-MBF (914-1070-000) Details of the MD20A Actuator may be viewed here Details of the LMD-MBF Linkage Kit may be viewed here N.B. Should the Satchwell ZKM series Actuator include a wired Auxiliary Switch then the following Accessory should also be installed on the S-E MD20A Actuator as appropriate :- MD-S2 - Two independent SPDT 1mA -- 3(0.5)A, 250 V AC Auxiliary Switches. (914-1061-000) Should the Satchwell ZKM series Actuator include a wired Transfer Switch then the following Accessory should also be installed on the S-E MD20A Actuator as appropriate :- MD-S2 - Two independent SPDT 1mA -- 3(0.5)A, 250 V AC Auxiliary Switches. (914-1061-000) Details of the MD-S2 Auxiliary Switch Kit may be viewed here MZF PLUG AND SEAT VALVE BODY APPLICATIONS :- M800 + Linkage Kit L2SV (880-0124-000) Details of the M800 Actuator may be viewed here Details of the L2SV Linkage Kit may be viewed here N.B. Should the Satchwell ZKM series Actuator include a wired Auxiliary Switch then the following Accessory should also be installed on the S-E M800 Actuator as appropriate :- S2 - Two independent 24 volt 4amp AC-1 rated SPDT Auxiliary End Point Switches. (880-0104-000) Should the Satchwell ZKM series Actuator include a wired Transfer Switch then the following Accessory should also be installed on the S-E M800 Actuator as appropriate :- S2 - Two independent 24 volt 4amp AC-1 rated SPDT Auxiliary End Point Switches. (880-0104-000) Particular care should be taken when selecting an S-E Forta M800 Actuator to replace an existing Satchwell ZKM series Actuator. The S-E Forta M800 Actuator may be used to replace an existing Satchwell ZKM series Actuator but it should be noted that where this is to be connected directly to a Satchwell Controller, an independent Transformer rated to provide the greater level of power required by a single S-E Forta M800 Actuator (50VA) compared to that available at the CZT Controller (10VA) will also be required. (e.g. S-E Transformer Type TR60) Details of the Schneider Electric TR60 Transformer may be viewed here In such installations not only will the ZKM need to be replaced but the associated Proportional Controller will also need to be replaced.   2. PROPORTIONAL CONTROLLER REPLACEMENT The ZKM Actuator was compatible with a number of Satchwell Proportional Controller types including Z Monotronic, CZT Series 1 and CZT Series 3 Z MONTRONIC CONTROLLER APPLICATIONS :- If the Proportional Controller is a Z Monotronic type then this should be replaced by the Satchwell CZT5305 Proportional Controller. The associated Satchwell 3 wire Sensor will also need to be replaced by a S-E 2 wire Sensor compatible with the CZT5305 Details of a compatible Room Temperature Sensor may be viewed here. Details of a compatible Duct Temperature Sensor may be viewed here. Details of a compatible Immersion Temperature Sensor may be viewed here. The replacement Immersion Temperature Sensor may be installed in the existing Immersion Temperature Sensor Pocket with the aid of an Adaptor DWA0001. Details of the DWA0001 Adaptor may be viewed here. Details of the CZT5305 may be viewed here.   CZT CONTROLLER APPLICATIONS :- If the Proportional Controller is a CZT Series 1 or CZT Series 3 type then this should be replaced by the Satchwell CZT5305 Proportional Controller. The associated Satchwell 2 wire Sensor may be retained if desired. Details of the CZT5305 may be viewed here.

STO300 current and voltage modes and wiring

Issue The documentation on The Exchange differs from the documentation included in the packaging. Neither document shows the full capabilities or wiring options of the transmitter. Environment STO300 Cause The supplier recently changed the PCB and as a result, all of the 300 model plantroom type sensors now offer dual outputs (current and voltage). Since the part number designation is for current only the documentation included in the packaging only shows this configuration. To further complicate matters the specification and installation materials on The Exchange have not been updated to reflect the changes at this time Resolution The installation instructions included in the product packaging should always be referred to when installing these transmitters. The latest installation instructions can be downloaded here. If the new 0-10VDC output feature is required please follow the diagram below for wiring and DIP switch configuration.

What are the IP Protection and NEMA Ratings for products?

Issue What NEMA or IP rating is a specific product? Environment All devices Cause Is a product protected against water and access by foreign objects? Resolution The Degrees Of Protection document details both the IP rating and NEMA Enclosure charts. The IP rating is made up of 2 digits, the first is the level of protection to foreign objects, the second is the level of protection to water. If a product does not specify any rating for water ingress in it's datasheet then the the second digit will be 0. The first digit relates to the size of a foreign object that can be inserted into the product. Typically many Buildings products will not allow the insertion of a finger (12.5mm approx' 1/2") and offer no water protection, so they would be rated as IP20, however it would be IP10 should they have holes of up to 50mm (approx' 2").

Schneider Electric H909HV-S6 current transformer, does not change state.

Issue Status does not change. Environment CT current transformer H909HV-S6 Cause Although current flow is present, the current transformer status does not change.
