Setting the firewall port 135 for a Vista Server running on Windows 7

Issue The process for opening up port 135 in Windows 7 is not documented in the installation manual. Vista Workstation connections to remote Vista Server will not work. Environment Windows 7 Vista 5.1.X Cause With DCOM port 135 blocked by the windows firewall Vista Server communications will not work between Vista Servers and Workstations over a network. Resolution Set the DCOM setting as needed using the Vista installation Manual. Note - You will need to be logged on to Extranet for this document to be accessed. Then create a new Inbound Rule for port 135 as described on the Microsoft Website with the following settings: Rule Type: Port Protocol and Port: TCP and type specific port 135 Action: Allow the connection Profile: Domain; Private and Public Name: DCOM Finish Link to Microsoft website.

Sigma - Impact and requirements on an IT network.

Issue General information about the Impact on an IT network, when Sigma utilizes it. Environment Sigma IT Networks Communications Speed Cause General Information. Resolution 1 - Sigma is very IT-friendly and complies with the following IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standards: RFC 791: Internet Protocol (IP) RFC 972: Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) RFC 826: Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) RFC 950: Subnet Mask RFC 1256: Router Discovery RFC 768: User Datagram Protocol (UDP) RFC 1058: Routing Information Protocol (RIP) 2 - Sigma will utilize 1 - 2% of a 100M Ethernet connection. 3 - The Sigma system use peer to peer communications, therefore communications between devices will only occur when required by the system or user. 4 - Devices can operate as stand alone for long periods, in the event of network problems. 5 - Controllers can be restricted on how often global data is passed to other controllers. 6 - Sigma Remote Clients will poll the Sigma Server to ensure the connection is still there. 7 - Messages between the server and the controllers / DNN's / IC's all use UDP (User defined protocol) messages, their sizes will vary dependent on the message. 8 - Client to Server messages are TCP Transmission control protocol), and again the message size varies. 9 - Sigma uses ports 49152, 3614, 80 and 8080. 10 - Sigma V53 devices communicate at 10M half Duplex. 11 - Sigma ARM devices negotiate a communications speed, starting at 100M half Duplex, then moving to 10M full Duplex, and finally 10M half Duplex.

Issue Is it possible to use a new Xenta (v.3.84) with an old version of TAC Vista? Environment TAC Vista 5.x TAC Xenta 302, TAC Xenta 301, TAC Xenta 401, TAC Xenta 28x Cause New orders for Xenta programmable controllers always come as the latest version. If there is a need to add or replace a device in an old installation will there be a problem? Resolution It is ok to use newer version of Xenta controllers in older TAC Vista installations. It is also okay to downgrade to an earlier 3.x version if desired. I/A Series (Niagara) R2 UNC won't boot after downgrading system software to a version earlier than release 529

Issue After using the I/A Series (Niagara) R2 Admin Tool Installation Wizard "Upgrade" process to install an earlier version of the R2 OS and NRE, the UNC will no longer reboot properly. The heartbeat LED remains turns on and stays on. The software was downgraded to a release earlier than R2.301.527. While watching the bootup process on a serial console connection, the bootup log shows the following message just before the UNC reboots: old clock frequency detected, modifying and rebooting -> Since the BOOT Flash chip does not allow its clock frequency to be changed, this "change, reboot, start, clock change, reboot" process will continue as long as the UNC is powered. Product Line TAC IA Series Environment UNC-410 with serial number 36218b and newer UNC-520 with serial number 36184b and newer Cause The UNC features a new bootflash chip that is incompatible with the older releases of the R2 software. When the affected UNCs are shipped by the factory the following yellow warning label is attached to the transformer cover: WARNING! This Universal Network Controller (UNC) features a new bootflash chip. To properly configure or install the software you MUST use one of the following releases. Release R2.301.527 or newer Failure to follow these instructions will cause the UNC to become inoperative. Refer to Product Announcement PA-00123 on The Exchange Download Center for more details. Resolution Contact Product Support to obtain a return authorization number. The UNC returned with this issue will be repaired by the factory for a nominal fee of $250.

Can not learn more than X infinet devices.

Issue 1. Performing a learn on the Infinet port finds only a fixed number of infinet devices (10,32,64). 2. Refreshing the Field Bus Controllers window in the Infinet commport shows the devices appearing online for a second and then disappearing. 3. Error "Duplicate name" is displayed. Environment CyberStation CX9640 CX9702 CX9900 CX9680 ACX5740 ACX5720 Cause Maximum Infinet controllers limit has been reached due to: 1. No key attached to CyberStation (demo mode). 2. CX controller option limit. Resolution 1. Attach a CyberStation key to get out of demo mode. 2. If the CX's Max Infinet Controllers have been reached, no additional Infinet controllers can be learned until Infinet controllers are deleted or controller's limit is expanded. The controller's max limits can be viewed from the controller's editor by going to the 'Options' tab.

Issue Want to install Continuum or webClient remotely using Remote Desktop or VNC applications. Environment Continuum Cyberstation webClient Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Cause Doing this remotely using Remote Desktop or VNC type applications has been known to cause problems with the installation, especially with the configuration of IIS on the webClient server. Resolution Do not install Continuum or webClient remotely. Continuum Cyberstation and webClient should always be installed locally with Administrator privileges and firewalls / anti-virus disabled during the install.

Continuum stand-alone is not working in Demo mode after upgrading

Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support Services for assistance. Issue After upgrading, it now asks for the security key when launching Continuum. Product Line Andover Continuum Environment Continuum Cause Continuum stand-alone is not working in Demo mode after upgrading. Resolution Completely uninstall Continuum and re-install using the following steps. Warning: Incorrectly editing the registry may severely damage your system. At the very least, you should back up your current settings and any valued data on the computer before making changes to the registry. Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. Remove Continuum. Reboot the PC. Remove EPI Builder Run-Time. Reboot the PC. Remove Sentinel System Driver Installer if installed. Reboot the PC. Remove the Continuum entries in the registry using Regedit. Start > Run > regedit Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Andover Controls. Select the "Andover Controls" key, right-click and select "Export" to backup the reg key. Select the "Andover Controls" key, right-click and select "Delete" to delete the reg key. Reboot PC. Install Continuum without a security key attached to the PC.  You should now be able to start Continuum in stand-alone demo mode.

After upgrading the WorkPlace Tech Tool software to 5.7.x from an earlier version, and installing a new 365 day expiring license, the "License Expired" message is still...

Issue A version of the WorkPlace Tech Tool software prior to version 5.7 had previously been installed on the computer and licensed with an expiring license.  The WPT software was updated to version 5.7.x.  When the previous expiring license was about to expire, the next expiring license renewal was requested.  However, when the previous expiring license did expire, the new one also expired. Environment Initial WIBS/WPT license on computer created by installation of any version Wonderware for Intelligent Buildings Software (WIBs) or any version prior to 5.7 of the WorkPlace Tech Tool software (WPT). New version (5.7.x or later) of the WorkPlace Tech Tool software installed on same computer. Cause New license request was incorrectly generated using the WIBSPurchase ("Purchase WIB Software" icon) program instead of using the "Purchase WorkPlace Tech Software" icon on the computer desktop. Resolution Use the "Purchase WorkPlace Tech Software" icon on the computer desktop to request any license updates for version 5.7.x and newer of the WorkPlace Tech Tool software.

After installing Continuum 1.93 LAN, failure to initialize a new database.

Issue Continuum 1.93 was installed on a workstation connecting to a SQL Server 2008 LAN server. When the Database Initialization for a LAN server was run, but it fails to initialize a new database. An error is displayed that the SQL Server login failed or the SQL Server does not exist. Environment LAN site with multiple workstations running Windows XP with service pack 3 and a server class computer running SQL Server 2008. Cause Continuum 1.93 was installed on a workstation connecting to a SQL Server 2008 LAN server. The Continuum Database Initialization for a LAN server was started but it fails to initialize a new database, displaying a "Server login failed or the SQL Server does not exist." error is displayed. The ODBC Connections utility in the Windows XP Control Panel was unable to connect to the SQL server, but the SQL Server would respond to a ping. Resolution The SQL Server 2008 had not been configured to allow Named Pipe connections. After the SQL Server was changed to allow Named Pipe connections, a new database was initialized and a backup of the site database was restored.

Issue When attempting to use Serial Tunneling through an I/A Series (Niagara) G3 system ENC, the following error message is displayed in the Application Director window: ERROR [....][Serial Helper] Denied Opening comm port 'COM1' javax.baja.serial.PortDeniedException: COM1 is already owned by dbgjmpr Environment I/A Series (Niagara) G3 ENC-520, ENC-410. Cause This error is reported when the operating system console enable jumper is installed on the front two pins of the MODE connector in the upper right corner of the ENC circuit board.  NOTE: This jumper is installed only when using a serial terminal running at 57600 baud and connected to serial port COM1 to troubleshoot ENC operating system startup / IP address issues. Resolution Remove the jumper and reboot the ENC.

Issue Is it possible to prevent a graphic page from being edited? ie. it should not be possible to change the graphic page from a remote workstation. Product Line TAC Vista Environment Vista workstation/remote workstation 5.X Cause Many sites have varying levels of operators who have access to the TAC Vista system. It may not be desirable for all of the users to be able to change graphics and other Vista objects. Resolution To lock the graphic page for one workstation you can simply log in with a user that has read-only authority. This can be set by right-clicking any TGML/OGC object in Vista and selecting "Authority". In the dialogue window that opens up select an appropriate user and add it to the "Access control List". Using the "Access Level" drop-down box, select "Read(R)".

Resolution On doors configured to enforce entry/egress anti passback go to the door editor's entry options/exit options tabs and check the box labeled "Anti-Passback Violation Only on Area Re-Entry" This is known as relaxed entry/egress anti-passback. When configured this way, at validation time Continuum does not check which area the person was last allowed into as long as it isn't the same area they are attempting access to.
