Can two Continuum Security Keys be installed on the same computer?

Issue Want to install both Continuum LAN key and webClient Server Key (WEBC-PRO) to enable both Cyberstation and webClient functionality on the same computer. Environment Continuum Cyberstation webClient Server Cause Want to merge two functions of Continuum onto the same machine to save the cost of one computer. Resolution No, you can only install one Continuum Security Key on any PC. In a LAN environment you will need to have the Continuum Cyberstations and webClient Server on separate computers. To have both the functionality of a Cyberstation and a webClient Server on a LAN system will require two PCs.

I2/b3 controller issue using PE functions Minimum, Maximum, Average etc with only one argument.

Issue Using PE functions designed to take multiple arguments (Minimum, Maximum, Average) with just one argument causes undesired behavior. Environment CyberStation i2 devices b3 devices Cause Functions expecting more than one argument require that more than one argument is passed. Resolution Make sure to always pass at least two arguments to PE functions that are designed to take multiple arguments such as Minimum, Maximum, Average etc For example: OAT = Minimum(MyNetwork\MyCX\Myi2Device) The line above may cause undesired controller behavior Replace the line above with the following line OAT = MyNetwork\MyCX\Myi2Device

Avoiding nuisance door forced open alarms.

Issue Request to exit motion sensor seems to be causing nuisance alarms. Environment CyberStation, ACX family, AC1 family, REX motion sensor  Cause Even though the exit request variable is "On" in the door object, if the door opens and closes more than once, a forced entry alarm is created. This causes issues when the REX motion never turns off and multiple users exit the door. Resolution In Continuum controller firmware once the door is closed and locked a change of state of the REX input is required to keep the alarm shunted. To simulate this, trigger the REX motion detector and then open the door while it is unlocked. The door relocks 1 second after opening. If the door REX signal goes OFF and then ON again, the door unlocks. If, while the door is unlocked, the REX signal goes OFF and ON and OFF and ON the door can be opened and closed with no forced entry OR it can remain open and no door ajar will occur. The same is true if you do not check 'unlock on exit request' - it's just harder to test because you cannot watch the REX signal as easy as the unlock output. The key to avoiding the nuisance forced entry alarms is to let the REX motion sensor cycle quickly - have it turn on and then off after 1/2 to 1 second. The forced entry alarm will be shunted until the door relocks. Then if there is still motion at the sensor the REX will come on again and the controller will continue to shunt the alarm.

BACnet Segmented Messages

Issue A third party BACnet device does not support segmented messages but the bCX4040 does. Can the two devices communicate? Environment Continuum BACnet MS/TP MSTP bCX Cause A third party boiler BACnet MS/TP interface card is having difficulty communicating with a bCX4040. The manufacturer of the interface card has commented that the Continuum bCX uses segmented packets and the Bacnet interface card cannot communicate with a segmented packet delivery system.  Are these devices incompatible? Resolution The problem should not be related to message segmentation. This is because the bCX will try to send a segmented message and the third party device should send a response to the bCX indicating that segmentation is not supported. The BCX will then send only non-segmented messages to the device. So, the bCX supports message segmentation but can do both segmented and non-segmented messages on the same MS/TP bus.  Get an MS/TP capture with both devices on the wire while doing a Find BACnet Devices request from CyberStation and send to Product Support for review.

Updating firmware from StruxureWare Building Operation and the still be compatible with other BMS

Issue Updating firmware from StruxureWare Building Operation and the still be usable with other BMS such as Continuum, I/A Series, I/NET, Sigma, and Vista Environment Site with more than one Building Management System  Cause Implications of updating firmware on a controller from the StruxureWare Building Operation side and still compatible with existing Resolution For the controllers available on the StruxureWare Building Operation network that have been configured, take precaution when updating the firmware and still expect compatibility with other systems. For example, at a Continuum site, with a b3 and the option to update of firmware from StruxureWare Building Operation, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. When selecting the b3, and the Update Firmware, it will ask you for the *.udp file. This can be downloaded from the extranet. The thing to keep in mind here is if you are using this controller in conjunction with Continuum, then pay particular attention to the Compatibility Matrix and the firmware which is compatible with the version of Continuum you are running. Updating a firmware that is not in line with the version of Continuum will create problems for the site. So when selecting the firmware *.udp, be sure of which firmware file you are selecting. The operating system in the b3 controller is no different between StruxureWare Building Operation and Continuum. The PE code may be different though, so he should be able to learn these controllers into Continuum as long as they have their user memory cleared out.

How to delete the photo in a personnel object without having to delete the personnel object itself.

Issue There seems to be no way to delete the photo in a personnel object. Environment CyberStation Cause Keep the personnel object and delete the photos in the personnel object. Resolution There is no way to delete the photo once it has been captured into the personnel object, a workaround is to create a blank image using an application such as Windows Paint for example and then change the personnel’s photo to the blank image.

Emailing a critical temperature twice a day.

Issue Is it possible to email a temperature value twice a day to someone via Continuum? Environment SendEmail ACX2 NC2 bCX Cause A customer would like to get an email twice a day on a critical temperature in a lab. Emailing alarms is already done via CyberStation and Outlook. Can this be done, too? Resolution Yes, it can be done. And if you want it to NOT be emailed as an alarm, a good way to do it is to set up a bCX/ACX2/NC2 to be able to send email. Then write a Plain English program that uses the SendEmail function. You will need to write the temperature value to a string point. You can trigger the program to run twice a day. The syntax for the function is: SendEmail (to_string, subject_string, message_string, cc_string, bcc_string, signature_string)   See the CyberStation online help and search for SendEmail for more information.

What is the advantage of having a Doubly Bus Terminated Topology segment VS Free Topology in a LON FTT 10A setup?

Issue What is the advantage of having a Doubly Bus Terminated Topology segment VS Free Topology in a LON FTT 10A setup? Environment CX9900 CX9680 LON IOU Modules Cause Unknown Resolution The advantage is bus distance, with the doubly terminated bus you can have a bus length of up to 2700 meters (depending on type of cable used), with the free topology the maximum would be 500 meters. (see page 22 in the Continuum I/O Reference document). The disadvantage is the Doubly Bus Terminated method is that it does not allow free topology, nodes must wired in a bus topology (just like in the LON RS-485 485) to limit electrical reflections.

Two BACnet Icons in ContinuumExplorer

Issue A system had two BACnet Icons in the ContinuumExplorer - one fully populated with controllers and points and the other empty.  Environment CyberStation BCX MS/TP Cause When trying to save a simple PE program mirroring a third party BACnet point, an error "could not find the object" on the path which included the BACnet Devices folder came up. Resolution There should not be multiple BACnet Devices folders in the ContinuumExplorer. In this case the empty BACnet Devices folder was renamed. The InfinityProgram could then resolve the object name and save the program successfully. Further investigation as to what caused the duplication must be done.

Credential 1 Tab is Grayed out in the Personnel Editor

Issue Upgraded a system from v1.74 to 1.93. Credential 1 tab is now grayed out in the personnel editor for users who had access to all personnel editor tabs previously.   Environment CyberStation Access Control Personnel objects Cause After an upgrade from v1.74 to v1.93 the personnel editor Credential 1 tab is grayed out for users who previously had access to all personnel editor tabs. If using the PIM, however, all the attributes, including the ones shown on the Credential 1 tab, are accessible to the same users.  Resolution Continuum creates some new features in v1.93 locked by default. So, any user that did have administrator or Group 1 access (i.e everything unlocked) finds that they are now locked out of the Credential1 tab because it didn't appear in the previous version (in this case v1.74). The resolution is to unlock (change from "locks" to "keys") all the new features for User Security Group 1 as well as any other groups that require this access. If  'Security' is grayed out when right clicking on the Continuum icon then the security settings for the user will have to be reset via s SQL query. (Contact PSS for query) However, if using the new v1.93 PIM (Personnel Information Manager) you will not notice this, because you are allowed access. It is only when you use the personnel editor that this is observed.

Is there an Xdriver Error Log?

Issue I can see the XdriverError count but where is the corresponding log? Environment XDriver Cause The xDriver tab indicates the count or errors and the last error but where is the error log? Resolution For 1st generation controllers the last error should be shown in the comm port status. There is no error log. A PE program can be written to map this attribute to an InfinityString to create a log. For 2nd generation controllers (like the NCII) the errorlog function does not work correctly.  The ErrorLogTool.exe must be used to extract this information.

Personnel Distribution failures with message: Error text undefined (TBD) 0x00002001

Issue When trying to distribute personnel to Netcontrollers, about half of them fail with the message: Error text undefined (TBD) 0x00002001 under the Last Error column in the Access Distribution View. Environment CyberStation Access Control Cause Access distributions are failing with the same error message in the access distribution view. Resolution Make sure that there are no access controllers that are offline. If there are, and they cannot be brought back online right away, such as during a site renovation, set them to "Out of Service" until they are able to communicate. If they are no longer to be used then delete them - as CyberStation may be trying to distribute to them. This same error message came up on a different project. It was noted that the personnel that failed to distribute (with this error) had schedules attached to their assigned areas, and the schedules reside in the controller that gives the error. The problem was resolved by reloading all the access controllers one-by-one.   Make sure if there are remote area schedules that network issues are not blocking the controller receiving the personnel distribution from getting to the remote controller that own the area schedule point. You can test this by creating test points in each controller and using a program to import the point, in some cases you will see that the program will give the same 0x00002001 error on compilation which indicates network issues. Work with IT to find out what is blocking comm between the two controllers.

Conversion of controller type in Continuum DB may require saving/restoring System Variables configuration.

Issue When converting controller type in Continuum such as making a CX9900 (NC1) into a CX9680 (NC2) if the System Variable objects contain links such as triggers or alarms and/or configuration edits such as logs etc those links and configuration edits will be lost during the conversion. Environment CyberStation Cause Implementation Resolution Before converting the controller, in the Continuum Explorer click on the System Variables folder and then select ALL the system variable objects on the right pane and export them to a text file. After the conversion is done, import the system variables to restore all triggers/links etc.

Alarms show up in Active Alarm View but do not show up in any Alarms listviews and do not seem to be logging to the Database.

Issue Alarms show up in Active Alarm View but do not show up in any Alarms listviews and do not seem to be logging to the Database. Environment Continuum Cyberstation Cause Enhanced alarm logging does not automatically log intrinsic alarms (Controller Offline alarms). Improper time synchronization between Workstations and field Controllers. Due to this, Listviews were not showing most recent entries as they were being sorted on "TimeStamp" (controller time of the alarm) attribute. Resolution Intrinsic alarms (controller offline alarms) need to have a Workstation setup in the delivery tab of the EventNotification (in the Templates folder). The Workstation needs to have the "Log" box ticked so this alarm to be logged in the database. Normally when using enhanced alarm logging, ticking this box is not required as the enhanced alarm logging takes care of the logging. These intrinsic alarms in the Templates folder are the exceptions to that rule. Confirm the times on your controller and WS are configured properly and showing the same time. Add the TimeOfLog attribute to the AllAlarms listview and change so it sorts on this to see if your alarms have been logged but at a different time. If there are no new entries, then try removing the alarm links to your points (on the alarms tab) and then re-add them and save. Reload the controllers as well.
