What is the Actual SCU Power Requirement and Battery Life

Issue What is the Actual SCU Power Requirement and Battery Life expectancy Environment I/NET site with Access Control Cause SCU Power Requirement information SCU Battery Life information Resolution The current power ratings listed in TCON312 & TCON313 are the indicate maximum power consumption for Agency markings and recommended transformer sizing. All of the SCU models all have the same supply circuits. All three models can deliver up to approx 1.2 amps of 13.6V, and .2A of 5V, along with the onboard 3.3V logic load. The SCU1200 and SCU1280 provide two terminal blocks (TB4 & TB5) which can deliver 13.6V and 5V power out to miscellaneous sensor/detector loads. The SCU1200 and SCU1280 also support an external a lead acid battery backup. When this battery is discharged, application of AC power can call for maximum power from the 13.6V supply with the onboard supply limiting 13.6V to the battery and external load to currents up to approx 1.2 amps. Even if you are not using the external power for sensor/detector power, the battery can pull maximum power during recharge. If you are NOT using an external battery backup, and you are NOT using the external 13.6v connection (on TB4 & TB5), and you are NOT using the external 5V connection (on TB4 & TB5), then you could assume a reduced 24VAC power consumption as follows. For the SCU1200, the 24VAC power input would be approximately .1A (2.4VA). For the SCU1280, the 24VAC power input would vary from about .1A with no relays on, up to approx .3A (7.2VA) with all 8 relay outputs energized. SCU Battery information: SCU1284 NiMh Battery Life The Varta battery datasheet lists the life expectancy for trickle charge applications (which is what the SCU uses) as 6 years (at temp of 20C) and 3 years (at temp of 45C) So in typical access control environment we should be around 25C so around the 6 year expectation would be appropriate. Also, the end of life is frequently interpreted as reaching ½ capacity on a NiMh battery, so it still has memory retention, even at end of life.

What is required to configure controllers to use the wireless network adaptors?

Issue What is required to configure controllers to use the wireless network adaptors? Environment Wireless Infinet CX 9680 (Netcontroller II) bCX 9640 (bCX1-INF) i2xxx controllers Wireless MSTP bCX 4040 (bCX1-BACnet) b3xxx controllers Cause Require more information on how to enable Continuum controller subnet to use wireless communications instead of wired communications. Resolution To setup and enable wireless Infinet or MSTP networks, you will require two things: 1. Firmware There is separate Wireless Firmware that needs to be loaded into the i2xxx and b3xxx controllers to enable wireless communications. The Netcontroller II or bCX1 controller do not have a separate wireless version of the Firmware. FW -> Ecobuildings   2. Wireless Adapters You will need to attach wireless adapters to each controller including the master and change the commport to wireless mode. (Note: bCX or NC2 controllers only; wireless has not been enabled in the ACX57xx controllers at this time.) For further information see the Wireless documentation at the link on ExchangeOnline below. What is a Smoke Control System supposed to do?

Issue What is a Smoke Control System supposed to do? (TCON 231, Designing a Smoke Control System) Environment Smoke Control System Buildings Management System Cause In the event of a fire, the most immediate danger is most often the smoke. Building controls can play a big part in a fire safety system by manipulating building pressures to control the migration of smoke and give inhabitants valuable extra time to escape. Resolution A Smoke Control System should meet one or more of the following Objectives: Maintain a tenable environment along the evacuation routes Control and reduce the migration of smoke from the fire zone into other areas Reduce deaths and injuries from smoke Reduce property loss from smoke damage Aid the effort of fire-fighters

What hardware can be used to replace the 7900 DPU Series?

Issue What is the replacement hardware for the 7900 Series security devices, DPU 7910, DPU 7920, DIO 7940 and DIU 7930. Environment Series 7900 DPUs. DPU 7910, DPU7920, DIU 7930 and DIO 7940.   I/NET Seven. Cause Series 7900 door controller units are no longer available.  Replacement Hardware is the SCU 1200 Series. Resolution  Below is a table showing the comparison and replacement hardware for the 7900 Series controllers.   Series 7900 Replacement I/NET Seven Host Software Network Designation MCU Type Device Type DPU 7910 SCU 1284 DPU SCU 1284 DPU 7920 SCU 1284 DPU SCU 1284 DIO 7940 SCU 1280 DIO SCU 1280 DIU 7930 SCU 1200 DIU SCU 1200   Notes:  To use the full input capacity of the SCU series, (12 DI), you must use the device in a double-address mode. When typically using them as a replacement for 7900 series the existing addressing usually restricts the use to single address mode. Refer to TCON312 for further information. Also be aware of I/NET system Compatibility, download TCON312 (Overview section) for further detail.  Regardless of which version of TAC I/NET software you use, you must load SLIs with updated software in order to properly communicate with the SCU.
