How to get the Filemaster name?

Issue How do I get the Filemaster name? Environment I/NET network Cause Tech support recommends you use the static IP address of the computer you will be using as a Filemaster. Resolution To find the IP address of a computer: Right click on Network Neighborhood and scroll down to Properties. Under the Configuration tab you will see TCP/IP, double click it. IP address will be the active tab. Within it, you will see "Specify an IP address." The top address will be your IP address. Write down this number and type it in to the Filemaster name.

I/NET host will not save the controller's database and navigation

Issue I/NET host will not save the controller’s database and navigation. I/NET seems slow. An hourglass appears for a few moments, but no new (or updated) “SAV” file is generated. Environment I/NET Site Cause The NETCON file is probably corrupted. Resolution Shut down I/NET. NETCON is in the “DATA” folder in I/NET. It is recommended to remove the file; but don’t delete it until you know you won’t need the old information. Restart I/NET, then save each layer of the new NETCON architecture. Don’t forget to complete this process for the sub-LAN controllers and any access-control doors too.

Then re-launch a report, you should be prompted for a password. Re-enter the password (if you have forgotten the password call Product Support for assistance). Once the report launches close and re-check the auto logon box in the host configuration editor. If this does not work check the following: Check the character length of your computer name. If it exceeds fifteen (15) characters this may be causing your problem. How to: Right mouse click on My Computer Select properties, System Properties window will appear. Select the Network Identification tab "Full computer name:" will be listed. Count "all" the characters. If you exceed the 15-character limit you will have to rename your computer. Caution: If your computer is a member of a Domain and you do not have Administrative rights to add and remove PC's from the domain, DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME, contact your IT Administrator for assistance. How to: From the Network Identification Tab select Properties. The Identification Changes window will appear. Under computer name you will be able to change the length or the name of the PC. ISDN communication with I/NET

Issue Can ISDN be used to communicate to I/NET? Environment I/NET Site Cause Can ISDN be used to communicate to I/NET? Resolution I/NET is not designed to be compatible with the typical adapter of ISDN. ISDN, which stands for Integrated Services Digital Network, is a digital phone service that was popular a few years ago as an alternative to dial-up connections. ISDN allows data to be sent about twice as fast as a conventional phone line - up to 128Kbps (kilobits per second) rather than 56Kbps. As an added plus, a single ISDN line can be split into two separate channels, so you can carry on a voice conversation while your computer is connected to the Internet. It sounds great, but the catch is that it’s expensive. An ISDN connection doesn’t require a modem. Instead, you use a special ISDN Adapter, which may cost hundreds of dollars. In addition, you have to pay the Phone Company to install the ISDN line, and you pay a monthly fee for the line. On top of that, you may be billed by the minute for usage. With the spread of low-cost cable modem access in many areas and the cost of DSL access coming down, ISDN is fast becoming a thing of the past It was a good idea for its time, but its time has passed.

DPUs stopped letting people through doors after upgrading the site from I/NET 2000 to the latest revision of I/NET Seven

Issue DPUs stopped letting people through doors after upgrading the site from I/NET 2000 to the latest revision of I/NET Seven Environment I/NET site with Access Control Cause DPUs stopped letting people through doors after upgrading the site from I/NET 2000 to the latest revision of I/NET Seven Resolution Using Dbcreate, select “Verify existing database” and start the process. You will probably find errors or differences listed at the end of the verification check. (This probably caused the crash.) Using Dbcreate, select “Upgrade database” and start the process. Force I/NET Seven to upgrade the system. (The upgrade will attempt to repair the differences.) Once again, “Verify existing database” the database using Dbcreate. There should be “0” (zero) differences. If there are no differences, then the database is ready to be used in I/NET Seven.

Can an I/NET system communicate across ethernet routers which use Network Address Translation (NATing)?

Issue Can an I/NET system communicate across ethernet routers which use Network Address Translation (NATing)? Environment I/NET Site Cause Can an I/NET system communicate across ethernet routers which use Network Address Translation (NATing)? Resolution In general, I/NET works best if we are able to pass an unadulterated packet of information from one host/NPR on the ethernet to another...and back again. Network Address Translation in a commercial router does just that; translates the address of a packet coming into the router to one of several devices that reside on the other side of it. I/NET workstations can successfully deal with NATing or spoofing because they utilize commercially available network drivers which do the communication for us. Under most circumstances, the NPRs can NOT because they have a limited set of network drivers which does not accommodate NAT....or DHCP for that matter. There are generally four different implementations of NAT. Static, Dynamic, Overloaded and Overlapped. The NPR will only stand a chance at working in a Static NAT implementation, but we do not recommend it. If you must install NPRs on such a network, call Product Support for assistance.
