How does the SNMP agent in TAC Xenta Server work and what are the limitations?

Issue Can I send live data over SNMP? How many trap pages can I define? Environment Xenta Servers Xenta 511, 527, 555, 701, 711, 721, 731 Cause All Xenta Servers (except Xenta 913 and Xenta 527-NPR) have a built in SNMP agent. However, the SNMP protocol in them cannot handle sending live data over SNMP. It can only send alarms along with specific fields of those alarms.   Resolution The Xenta Server supports SNMP version 1 and SNMP Traps. It can only be used to send SNMP and not to receive. The first step to setting up SNMP is to create alarms in XBuilder and link the points to the alarms that are to be monitored. Then, the filters used by the SNMP traps should be defined. This is done using SNMP trap pages. SNMP Trap Page The SNMP trap page is where you define a set of rules in Xbuilder of when to send a trap to the SNMP manager. This includes severity of the alarm or a wildcard string based on the address of the point.  In XBuilder you can create up to 10 SNMP trap pages, which will give you possibilities to define 10 different alarm filters. An SNMP trap page is created by right-clicking a folder in the System pane of XBuilder and then selecting New > Page > SNMP Trap Page. (It is recommended that a separate folder be created for SNMP trap pages and that this folder be restricted to only system administrators.) Once the SNMP trap page has been created it is then configured by right-clicking on the SNMP trap page object and selecting SetupSNMP Trap Filter.   SNMP Field Configuration The SNMP field configuration is where you define what 8 pieces of data will be sent to the SNMP manager (due to the UDP limit of 8 fields). That data consists of things like date/time, type, address, priority, description, etc. The SNMP field configuration is accessed by clicking on the Tools menu and selecting SNMP Field Configuration.     For more information on SNMP in Xenta Servers please see the TAC Xenta Server - TAC Networks Technical Manual, section 16. Note: SNMP is only supported by Xenta Server devices and is not supported by TAC Vista.

Guidelines for using large numbers in Access Control

Issue Are there any documented guidelines for using large number in Access Control? Product Line TAC INET Environment I/NET Site Cause Are there any documented guidelines for using large number in Access Control? Resolution Begin by referencing TCON 300. All SLIs and DPUs must use I/NET Seven revision 1.x (or later) compatible binary software. All DPUs must have DIP switch 7 set to ON. Within a single tenant, you can assign a large key/card number directly to an individual, or translate the number using the Key/Card Translation table, but not both (i.e., you cannot have duplicate key/card numbers or individual numbers within a single tenant). Use compatible EPROMs in the DPUs Note: If you directly assign a key/card to an individual, and later translate the same key/card for another individual, only the translated key/card will be operational within I/NET. Door selection is not possible in Tenant editor

Issue Error: "Tenant X individuals for door LLSSPPBB DO exceeds 24,000" when attempting to select additional doors within Tenant Editor Product Line TAC INET Environment I/NET Seven 2.15 and above DPU / SCU Firmware 3.23 and below Cause SCU / DPU firmware revision 3.3 and lower only supports 24,000 individuals per door, even though the I/NET Software (I/NET Seven 2.15 and above) allows you to allocate 32,000 per tenant.  This is why it is important to maintain consistency between I/NET Software Revisions and Hardware firmware. The I/NET Seven 2.xx Compatibility Matrix lists this information. Resolution To allow the controllers to support more than 24,000 individuals per door the firmware in the DPU / SCU must be at revision 3.24 or above. This firmware is included with I/NET Seven Revision 2.15 or above. Although TAC I/NET supports up to 32,000 individuals per tenant, the model type and revision date of a tenant's door controllers will ultimately determine how many individuals will be supported. The following table shows the capacity of various door controllers. For any door controller with revision 2.2x or later firmware, you would have to define multiple tenants in order to reach the door controller’s maximum storage capacity. Firmware Revision Door Controller Maximum Number of Individuals 2.1x and earlier  DPU7910, DPU7920 Up to 24,000 per door 2.2x to 3.23 DPU7910, DPU7920 without DPU48K Up to 48,000 per controller   DPU7910, DPU7920 with DPU48K Up to 48,000 per door 1 3.24 and later DPU7920 with DPU48K, SCU 1284 Up to 64,000 per door 1   1 Typically, the total number of individuals for a selected door cannot exceed 32,000. However, if one of the two doors controlled by a DPU is not being used (that is, no individuals are assigned to the door), you can assign up to 64,000 individuals to the door that is being used. This also requires the use of more than one tenant since no single tenant can have more than 32,000 individuals.  Refer to TCON300-06/11 Chapter 9-62 for further information.

Direct Connect Xenta 527-NPR or 527 Web Server through I/NET

Issue Direct Connect Xenta 527-NPR or 527 Web Server through I/NET Environment I/NET site Cause Direct Connect a Xenta 527-NPR or 527 Web Server through I/NET Resolution Are you using a Xenta 527-NPR or 527 Web Server and want to direct connect to it through I/NET and not having any luck? There are a couple of things that you need to set up in the unit for serial communication to I/NET through Port A (RS 232). The Xenta 527 NPR is set at factory default (RS232 Port A). The following steps should get you through this: Start I/Net and create a profile for the NPR (Net Plus Router) in I/O Server, then make this active. Verify that you have the correct cable to hook up from the serial port of the PC to Port A (RS 232) on the unit. (L1: RJ45 to RJ45 part # 0-073-0817). Connect them together. At this time you will need to start X Builder, if you don’t have it already, then you need to download it from the Exchange Extranet. The path is TAC Vista > Engineering Tools > TAC XBuilder > TAC XBuilder 1.5 (or latest revision). Download this to the PC. Start XBuilder through Programs > TAC > TAC Tool > XBuilder. Once started, select File\ New Project\(Project Name)\Location (default)\Project Template (select 527 Project), call it 527 NPR or whatever makes sense to you. At the settings Editor, just hit the OK button. Once the Editor comes up, in the Network frame, expand the TAC_Xenta_527. Right Click on the RS232-485A selection, click on Add then select I/NET. If you click on the TAC_Xenta_527, you will see all the settings that you have originally set up through Hyper Terminal or you can put those in at this time. Now select the Generate Icon or press F10 to generate the file. In the bottom of your project you would see a message that says Xbuilder – 0 error(s), 0 warning (s). This indicates that your project is now complete without errors. Now select the Rocket Ship Icon or press F11 to transfer the file to the unit. Once completed, restart or cycle power on the 527. Go to I/Net\Edit\Host Computer\Network Configuration and your 527 will show up in the Link Summary. At this time you can save the link, penetrate it and save the controllers etc. the old fashioned way. At this time you should be able to work on your system through a direct connect on a Xenta 527 NPR/Webserver unit.
