When displaying the VEO group with XPSI rev. 4.1 Terminal Mode, the data becomes progressively garbled after about 90 seconds.

Issue When accessing the VEO group of an LCM or GCM with XPSI revision 4.1 Terminal Mode, the data is displayed normally for about 90 seconds before it starts to become garbled. The problem begins at the top line of the display and progresses from the top down, one line at a time.   The arrow keys are not operable, cannot move the cursor to select attributes. Environment XPSI rev 4.1, Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista Pro, Network 8000 GCM, Network 8000 LCM Cause Unknown Resolution A work-around is to use a different terminal emulator instead of XPSI revision 4.1; possible alternatives are HyperTerminal or PuTTy.  PuTTY.exe can be downloaded at http://www.putty.org/.  Select putty.exe for Windows on Intel x86.

Alarms in UNC are not archiving to the Enterprise Server

Issue Alarms in UNC are not archiving to the Enterprise Server. Environment I/A Series R2 Universal Network Controller (UNC) and Enterprise Server Cause The UNC station and Enterprise Server station has their NotificationService 'archiveMode' property set to 'archive_disabled'. This is the default selection and it prevents notification from happening. Resolution Change the default settings in the UNC station and Enterprise Server:  Set the UNC station's NotificationService 'archiveMode' to 'archive_remote'. Set the Enterprise Server station's NotificationService 'archiveMode' to 'archive_local'. (The “archive_local” selection is valid only if the station is running the DatabaseService) The following have to be also correct in order for alarms archiving to happen: AddressBook entries should be properly setup in the Enterprise Server and UNC stations. Refer to Page 1-15 and 1-16 of the Niagara Standard Programming Reference for further information.  Supervisor checkbox in the UNC's NotificationService 'alarmArchiveAddress' property should be checked. NotificationClass(s) in the NotificationService container in both the UNC station and the Enterprise Server station have to be the same.

BACnet Setpoint Objects vs. Setpoint Priority Objects

Issue Is there a limit to the number of read/writes available for a BACnet Setpoint object? Environment WorkPlace Tech versions 5.1 and later Cause Not applicable Resolution The BACnet Setpoint object (analog or binary) is used for writing setpoint values to a controller, where it is stored in EEPROM. Observe normal precautions to avoid frequent writes to EEPROM. Excessive writes (typically greater than 100,000) can greatly shorten the life of the EEPROM and adversely affect its reliability. The BACnet Setpoint Priority object (analog or binary) represents a Value BACnet object type, of which the data is read-write accessible. This object can be used to write data to the controller. The Setpoint Priority object provides access to temporarily stored application values, usually setpoints or setup values, that are stored in RAM.  These setpoint values can be monitored and changed via BACnet communications, using the BACnet priority array.  When written from WP Tech, the default value is written to the priority array “relinquish default” location. Only this default value is stored in EEPROM. For more information, refer to the WorkPlace Tech Tool Engineering Guide Supplement (F-27356)

How to create a local administrator log on in Windows

Issue Continuum 1.9x and above will not install correctly on a PC / Laptop that is on a domain, One example: When trying to run the Continuum Database Initialization program the following error message may pop up: You must have local NT administrative privileges to run this application. Environment Windows OS 7 8 10 Continuum 1.9x 2.x Inet SQL 2005 SQL 2008 SQL 2012 Cause Microsoft has introduced the use of a higher level of security in the install of their SQL database software SQL 2005 / SQL 2008 / SQL 2012. When you install Continuum you need to make sure you are logged onto the PC / Laptop as a local administrator, in the case of a lot of a corporate networks, you are most likely logged on as ether a restricted user or a domain administrator, these logons do not have the privileges you need to install an SQL database. Resolution Step by step guide to creating a local administrator user on your PC / Laptop Go to "Start" then "Control Panel" in Windows (Windows 7 and above, top right corner change "view by" to "small icons" this will show all icons) Go to "Administrative Tools" Go to "Computer Management" / "Local Users and Groups" In users, right click on the right panel and add new user Fill in the user name and password, un-tick user must change password Tick password never expires then ok it Now go back into control panel and click on "User Accounts" Click on the name you just created, this will open the properties screen (Windows 7 and above click on "Manage user accounts") Click on "Group Membership" then select others, and highlight administrators (Windows 7 and above double click on name you created, click "group membership" click "other" then in the drop down select "Administrator") Apply this and then ok it. G3 ASD (tacAsd) driver setup basics.

Issue Provides additional setup information for the G3 ASD (tacAsd) driver implementation. Environment G3 ASD (tacAsd) driver (all revisions) Cause None Resolution G3 ASD (tacAsd) driver setup basics ...   Monitor properties Ping Enabled = true Ping Frequency = 5m change to 1m Alarm On Failure = true Startup Alarm Delay = 5m The baud rate sync properties is the mechanism that synchronizes the baud rates for the ASD bus. Upon reset, ASD devices initialize to 1200 baud and it is this mechanism that locates those devices and sets the baud rate to 19.2K or 9.6K (if PEMs are used on the bus). These values are part of the ASD specification and should not be changed. Last Time Sync is the last time a successful sync occurred Baud Rate Sync Time = 1m Baud Rate Set Timeout = 0.2s Baud Rate Set Repeat = 1 Baud Rate Change Millis = 800 Total Devices indicates the total number of devices active. Total Down indicates the total number of down devices. Scan Time indicates the total time to poll through the list if devices. The ASD communications protocol is designed to exchange most data between the host (ENC) and device with one transaction. This means that typical data (e.g. EMS, etc.) is written to the device as part of the request and response data (e.g. Window, Output, Diagnostics, etc.) in one transaction. In this case, the scan time is 6.9 seconds for 33 devices or approximately 4.5 devices per second. Tuning Policies (Default Policy) Min Write Time = 0 Max Write Time = 0 Write On Start = false Write On Up = false Write On Enabled = false Stale Time = 0 Note: The stale time actually involves the proxy point objects. The polling mechanism still continues and the internal point information is still updated. The driver does not implement the interaction between the point updates and proxy point stale. The values should be left at their default settings. Poll Scheduler Poll Enabled = true Fast Rate = 5s (defaults to 1s) Normal Rate = 10s (defaults to 5s) Slow Rate = 30s (defaults to 30s) Typically set the Normal Rate based upon the rules specified in the R2 documentation or (Normal Rate seconds = Number of devices / 3.5). For example, a network with 33 devices would be set to (33 / 3.5 = 10 seconds). As indicated earlier, the driver inherits the basic driver properties and mechanisms. G3 implements a complex poll scheduling mechanism that automatically determines and continually adjusts the poll list to achieve the most efficient polling. Retry Count The retry is only used in the event that a response from an ASD device is not received.  This value defaults to 1 and can be increased if needed to a maximum of 3 if devices are unable to respond to the initial message and one subsequent retry,  Devices that do not respond to the initial message may indicate a potential issue with the ASD bus. Response Timeout This is the amount of time the driver will wait for a response to a request before retrying the request.  This value defaults to 2 seconds and should not be changed. Inter Message Delay This value defaults to 0 seconds and should not be changed.

XPSI will not operate (tunnel) when both the IbsAsd and the Vserial services are simultaneously installed in the station's database.

Issue The station’s database indicates a “successful” start, however, the error message “Service Unavailable – Service disabled in remote station” is seen when attempting to tunnel with XPSI.  See I/A Series Enhanced ASD Driver - Release Notes for more information on this issue. Environment I/A Series (Niagara) R2 station, with VSerial service and ibsAsd service installed. XPSI 4.1 or newer. Cause The vserial and IbsAsd services use common tunnel software components, and having both services enabled at the same time causes conflicts in registering the services. Resolution The resolution to this issue requires that the I/A Series (Niagara) R2 station be running the ibsAsd 2.302.516b.v1 jar file, or later. In a station where communications with ASD controllers, and the ability to tunnel into the ASD bus with XPSI are both required, delete the vserial service and reboot the UNC.   In stations where both the ibsAsd service and the vserial service are required (not simultaneously), see the TAC I/A Series Enhanced ASD Driver Engineering Guide, F-27429-3, Appendix B, “Tunneling Example”, pp 123 – 130 for an application that will allow only one or the other service to run at a time, and prevent the conflict between them. This document and the I/A Series Enhanced ASD Driver - Release Notes are included with the I/A Series (Niagara) R2 software release R2.301.522 and newer documentation.

Issue When a Binary Input object is configured as a pulse counter, what happens when the time between pulses is longer than the interval specified in the “Pulse Input, Minimum Rate”? For example, the MNB-1000’s Fast Pulse Input, Minimum Rate  = 1 pulse per 4 minutes; what if 20 minutes pass between pulses? Environment MNL- controllers (MNL-5Rxxx, MNL-10Rxxx, MNL-15Rxxx, MNL-20Rxxx, MNL-800) MNB - controllers (MNB-70, MNB-300, MNB-1000, MNB-V1, MNB-V2) Cause Some meters transmit output pulses at a rate slower than the specified Minimum Rate of the controller. Resolution In the Binary Input object, the input is integrated over the time period, and the resulting calculated value is the object’s Output. If there is no pulse to count, the Output = 0 (no pulses, no measured output calculated over that time period), but the Count output will still be correct. Refer to the current Specifications Data Sheet for the controller for details on the Minimum Pulse Rate.

What is the procedure for redisplaying the WorkPlace Tech Tool stencils (Visio Shape Sheets) after accidentally or intentionally closing them?

Issue When using the I/A Series WorkPlace Tech Tool software to engineer an application for the I/A Series LON or BACnet controllers, the Visio Shape Sheets (stencils) containing the application drawing objects may be accidentally or intentionally closed.  Due to the names of the Visio Shape Sheet files containing the WPT stencils, it is very difficult to reopen the proper series of shape sheets without repeated trial-and-error.   When upgrading an application drawing from WPT 4.0 to WPT 5.7 or WPT 5.8, this same issue may occur.  Use this procedure to reattach the proper stencils to the upgraded application file. Environment I/A Series WorkPlace Tech Tool software version 4.0.0 or newer. Cause The names of the Visio Shape Sheet (Stencil) files for the WorkPlace Tech Tool are not self-explanatory, making it nearly impossible to manually select and reattach the correct stencils to the current application file.   Resolution Open the WPT Hardware Wizard, either from the Application Menu or by Right-Clicking on the drawing, and then click the Hardware Wizard [Finish] button.  The WPT Hardware Wizard will use the information pertaining to the selected controller type, model and version to insure that the application is configured properly and the necessary drawing stencils are available, redisplaying them on the left edge of the drawing
