Temperature Sensor Resistance Charts

Issue Temperature Sensor Resistance Charts Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Operation, Field Devices, Satchwell MicroNet, Satchwell Sigma, TAC IA Series, TAC INET, TAC Vista Environment Temperature Sensors Cause Temperature (°C) to Resistance Charts (ohms). Upgrading the site BMS, but retaining the existing sensors and the sensor resistance values are not known. Resolution The resistance of a sensor at a specific temperature can be downloaded below, there are a number of tables collated from different sources for a number of Schneider Electric sensors and other BMS suppliers.   In EBO, the thermistor selection in the IO module or controller does not represent the thermistor bead type, an example is the Continuum Type I in EBO, but the bead is a Type 3,. The input has a range of -10 to 135 °F (-23.3 to 57.2 °C) with an accuracy of ±1% of span. FTT-10 LONWorks Network Design Rules - LON Wiring Guidelines

Issue Many LonWorks network installation problems can be avoided if the appropriate network design rules are followed when the network is being designed. Product Line TAC IA Series, TAC Vista, Satchwell Sigma Environment I/A Series MicroNet (LON) Controllers Satchwell Sigma MicroNet series LON Controllers Vista Xenta Controllers Cause The I/A Series MicroNet System Engineering Guide (F-26507) was written as a resource of information for the installation of the I/A Series MNL-100, 200 & VAV controllers as well as the Sigma MicroNet 440 and 620 controllers.  The Resolution, below, is a summary of the LON design rules presented in this document. Resolution FTT-10 LON network wiring must be installed using Echelon-approved wire.  The most common type of wire used is described as Category 4  cable.  This wire is normally unshielded stranded twisted-pair 22AWG (0.65mm).  An example of this wire is the W221P or W222P series cable from Connect-Air International (http://www.connect-air.com).  This type of cable is normally available both in plenum rated and non-plenum rated types.  Consult the job specifications to determine if plenum-rated or shielded cable is required. The LON network can be wired using "Free Topology" or "Bus Topology" wiring segments.   1.  BUS Topology Guidelines BUS Topology LonWorks wiring extends from device to device (daisy chain format) with no branches or stubs. A LON-TERM-2 terminator must be installed at each end of the LON bus. When using standard Category 4 LON cable with the recommended terminators, the bus may be up to 4593 feet (1400 meters) in length. When extending LON wire to the MN-Sx sensor base in a bus topology network, the sensor base must be wired as part of the daisy chain and not as a stub connection. 2. FREE Topology Guidelines Free Topology imposes essentially no restrictions on the layout of the network -- some controllers may be wired point to point and others branching from a common point.  The free-topology LON network must be terminated at one point with a LON-TERM-1 terminator. When using standard Category 4 LON cable, the total wire length in a free topology LON network may not exceed 1641 feet (500 meters).  In addition, the longest wire path between any two controllers on a free topology LON network may not exceed 1312 feet (400 meters). 3. Common LON Network Wiring Guidelines LON wiring can not be part of an active bundled telephone trunk even if the telephone trunk is wired with Category 4 wire. Shielded Category 4 wire may be used in high EMI/RFI environments.  The shield must be wired continuously and grounded through a 470 Kohm resistor at one end. LON wiring must not be bundled with or housed in the same conduit as controller I/O and power wiring.  4. LonWorks Network Wiring and Addressing Guidelines When the number of controllers on a LonWorks network exceeds 60, the network must be split into segments with not more than 64 controllers or devices per segment using LonWorks Repeaters or Routers.  When counting the controllers and devices on a LonWorks network segment, a LonWorks Network Interface Device and the repeater itself must be included in the device count in each segment. In a LonWorks network containing repeaters or routers, each LonWorks network segment must be properly terminated, as described above. Domain / Subnet / Node addressing is used when configuring the LON controllers. A LonWorks Subnet consists of a series of LonWorks controllers all configured within the same LON Subnet number. A single LonWorks Subnet can have a maximum of 127 device and controller Node addresses.  This Node address count includes the LonWorks Network Interface, all controllers on the subnet, and repeater and/or router node addresses.  An allowance is typically made for additional addresses to be used by LonWorks tools connected to the Subnet.

Resolution Download the latest version. Browse to Steve Karg's  BACnet Protocol Stack - Browse /bacnet-tools at SourceForge.net Select the version folder Select bacnet-tools-[n.n.n].zip file to download it From the zip file, extract mstpcap.exe Now you can use it via command prompt as described below or install it in C:\Program Files\Wireshark\extcap if want to use with modern Wireshark version.   To capture data follow these steps: Unzip file Open command prompt with window pointing at location of mstpcap.exe file.  For example:  c:\MSTP Tool> Daisy chain RS-485 adapter to trunk or connect Roam I/A to jack on MNB device. Command syntax is as follows:  mstpcap comx baudrate# do not type baudrate just speed. Control C to stop Example: If Using Roam I/A it requires highest baudrate available on the interface. ROAM I/A Serial port mstpcap comx 115200 If using Roam I/A Bluetooth mstpcap comx 76800 If using an RS-485 adapter it will not support 76,800. This is a PC hardware limitation not a software limitation for further information or instructions on how to use baudrate 76,800 consult text file titled mstpcap.txt or Steve Karg's website: http://steve.kargs.net/bacnet/wireshark-and-bacnet-mstp .  Example: mstpcap comx baudrate speed The capture file can be analyzed with WireShark Protocol Analyzer.  WireShark software is available at: http://www.wireshark.org

Hyperterminal on Microsoft Windows Operating Systems

Issue Some Windows OS do not come with Hyperterminal installed. Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Operation, Field Devices, Other, Satchwell MicroNet, Satchwell Sigma, TAC IA Series, TAC INET, TAC Vista Environment Windows Vista Windows 7 Cause Hyperterminal was not included in the Operating System software package. Alternatively, extract the two files from any XP installation and copy them to the new Windows OS. hypertrm.exe default installation is in C:\Program Files\Windows NT hypertrm.dll default installation is in C:\Windows\System32. Alternatively, from a Windows XP CD, both files reside in the i386 directory.

Note:- Telnet operates using the TCP protocol. UDP connectivity cannot be tested using Telnet. Cannot Connect to the Platform on New or Cleaned JACE-8000

Issue On a new JACE-8000, or on one in which the clean-dist or factory restore procedure has been applied, the JACE can be pinged but, you cannot connect to the platform, and the system time's year shows as 2020 or greater.   The following symptomatic messages can be observed in the serial shell via the debug port:  ERROR [01:26:53 01-Jan-2037] [tid = 1] niagarad: policy file verification failed. Policy files may have been tampered with. Cause is: [/opt/niagara/security/policy/java.security failed signing verification]  ERROR [01:26:53 01-Jan-2037] [tid = 1] niagarad: throwable occurred while initializing daemon (java.lang.SecurityException), can not continue  sysmon: niagarad is no longer running  The following symptomatic messages appear in the system logs:  Jan 01 01:26:53 2 11111 0 niagarad: policy file verification failed. Policy files may have been tampered with. Environment I/A Series Jace-8000 Cause This issue is encountered when the RTC clock's date is Wednesday, December 30, 2020, or later.  Resolution Use the debug port to connect to the system shell with PuTTY. See the System Shell section of the JACE-8000 Install and Startup Guide Set the system clock to a date before the year 2020, and then commission the JACE with 4.2 or newer.  The issue is corrected within the fix for the following issue, addressed in Niagara 4.2.36.10:   NCCB-19628: Code signing timestamps checked improperly, verification will fail Jan 1, 2021    We will continue to see the issue on new JACE-8000 as they ship with a 4.1 daemon. This may also occur on a JACE-8000 on which the clean-dist or factory restore procedure has been applied.

Issue The Niagara 4 JACE's platform daemon fails to start making it impossible to login and configure using Workbench tools such as the Commissioning Wizard or Dist File Installer. The error within the serial shell typically indicates ... /proc/boot/ksh: niagarad: cannot execute - No such file or directory. Product Line TAC IA Series Environment Niagara 4 JACE-603 JACE-645 JACE-600E JACE 8000 Cause This can occur as a result of an Incorrect or failed upgrade or improper downgrade without first installing a clean distribution. Resolution Requirements - You will need the following to complete the recovery steps: A terminal emulator such as PuTTY A SFTP client such as FileZilla Serial-Shell cable for your JACE hardware model (specified in the .PDFs below) The Niagara 4 Clean Dist file for your JACE hardware A zip file utility such as 7-Zip The hardware and startup documentation for your JACE model (provided with Niagara 4 installer) Obtain recovery files from the Niagara 4 Clean Dist File for the matching hardware: The clean dist files can be found in your Niagara4 $system_home directory, or in your Niagara 4 image files under the cleanDist directory or in the overlay\cleanDist directory. Once enabled, enter another choice, "sh" (without quotes).  This will give you the "#" or "$" prompt that you need. If you could not enable from the menu in the step above, manually start by issuing the command tsudo syssh_sshcfg at the shell prompt.   If the command fails, issue the syssh_sshcfg command.  If the command fails again, enter the following ... $ cd /sys/bin ... then enter $ ./syssh_sshcfg ... then enter Transfer the n4clean.tar.gz and OS Image Files using SFTP Client Using an SFTP client such as FileZilla, transfer the n4clean.tar.gz file previously extracted for the platform from the clean dist file to the JACE's /zip directory. If the transfer fails with a permissions error, issue the command tsudo chmod 777 /zip at the shell prompt and try it again. Next, transfer the .image file you extracted from the clean dist file to the JACE's /dev/shmem directory. Run osupdate From the login menu prompt, type sh.  This will exit the menu system and enter the shell mode.  At the "#" or "$" shell prompt, issue the command osupdate.  After a short delay, the shell prompt will return. Reboot the JACE Finally, reboot the JACE.  This can be done by issuing the command shutdown hf 0 at the shell prompt.  When the JACE restarts, the unit will automatically process the clean dist file.

How to extract an XIF out of a Lon controller

Issue There may be a situation where the External Interface File (XIF) needs to be extracted out of the controller in order to properly set up the controller in a building automation system.  Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation, TAC IA Series, TAC Vista Environment External Interface File (XIF) NodeUtil Loytec XIF Builder Cause These tools will help with the extraction of an XIF file. An XIF file is used to create a Niagara R2 shadow object, a Niagara G3 LMNL file, LonWorks device template, and a SmartStruxure device template.  Resolution The device manufacturer should provide an XIF, and in most cases, a DRF kit as well. The XIF provided by the manufacturer of the controller should be used first but if issues arise it may be required to extract the file from the controller. There are a number of tools available that will create an XIF, but the DRF kit cannot be created by any tool and must be supplied by the manufacturer. This MUST be provided along with the device. Issue BACnet MS/TP Bus Communication Troubleshooting Checklist Product Line TAC IA Series Environment I/A Series BACnet controllers (MNB-70, MNB-V1, MNB-V2, MNB-300, MNB-1000) on an MS/TP bus. Cause BACnet MS/TP Bus Communication Troubleshooting Checklist Resolution This checklist provides several settings/configurations to review when faced with a communication problem at the controller level. The content was compiled from different resources, summarized, and laid out in an easy-to-use manner so as to provide a quick-reference document. Power Each controller requires 24 VAC from a Class 2 transformer. See the Installation Instructions for each controller, and the MicroNet BACnet Wiring, Networking, and Best Practices Guide, F-27360-7, Chapter 1, “Power Supply Wiring”. Read-Only Flag Use the WorkPlace Tech Commissioning Tool (WPTCT) to check “Device Properties” of the controller. If the status is “Operational, Read-Only”, the input voltage to the controller may be too low. See the MicroNet BACnet Wiring, Networking, and Best Practices Guide, F-27360-7, Chapter 1, “Power Supply Wiring”. Due to the short duration of the low-voltage condition required to set the flag, it is unlikely that you will see it when measuring the input voltage with a digital meter, so check the “Device Properties”, and correct the problem as noted on page 28 of the guide, (reduce transformer loading, reduce wire length between transformer and controller, and /or use wire with higher current rating). Diagnostic LEDs The MNB controllers have onboard diagnostic LEDs that are useful in troubleshooting. See the MicroNet BACnet Wiring, Networking, and Best Practices Guide, F-27360-7, Chapter 3, “Communications Hardware Checkout”, Table: “LED Indications”, for a detailed description of the behavior of the LEDs and their diagnostic uses. Topology It is very helpful to draw the topology of the bus when you start troubleshooting. If there are no repeaters on the bus, the topology must be a daisy-chain, with no tees or stars. MS/TP network wiring to MN-Sx sensors must be run to the sensor, then to the next controller on the bus, in a daisy-chain; no tees or spurs are allowed. Maximum length of a wire segment is 4000 feet. See the MicroNet BACnet Wiring, Networking, and Best Practices Guide, F-27360-7, Chapter 1, “MicroNet MS/TP Network Wiring”, for details on Communications wiring. Repeaters B-LINK-AC-S, Andover Controls MS/TP Repeater B-LINK-AC-F-S, Andover Controls MS/TP Repeater Fiber See the MicroNet BACnet Smoke Control Systems Manual, F-27419, for details on the use of these wire and fiber repeaters with MNB controllers. See F-27419, Chapter 5, “Approved MS/TP Repeaters”, including the wiring example. Maximum Number of Devices The maximum number of MNB controllers depends on the cable used, and the Baud Rate. See the MicroNet BACnet Wiring, Networking, and Best Practices Guide, F-27360-7,Chapter 1, Table, “Approved Cable Types”. The MNB controllers are quarter-load devices, so a maximum of 128 or less are allowed on an MS/TP trunk, depending on the cable used. Addressing Avoid duplicate addresses. See the MicroNet BACnet Wiring, Networking, and Best Practices Guide, F-27360-7, Chapter 1, “Required Configuration”, CAUTION: “Duplicate addresses on an MS/TP network trunk will result in erratic behavior, lost tokens, and disrupted communication. There is no software tool that will identify duplicate addresses on an MS/TP network trunk. Typically, if two controllers are set to the same address, one of the controllers will appear to be missing from the list, and the address shared by the two controllers will intermittently come and go from the list.” Biasing As a requirement of EIA-485 (formerly RS-485) bus topology, an MS/TP network must have a minimum of one set, and a maximum of two sets, of bias resistors in place. The MNB-300, MNB-1000, UNC-520, and ENC-520 have jumpers to enable or disable the bias resistors. See bulletin TB06-09, “RS-485 Bias Resistors and the UNC-520-2 / ENC-520-2”, page 3, for a photo of the bias jumpers on a UNC-520-2. Terminators A 120-Ohm End-of -Line (EOL) resistor is required across the “MS/TP +” and “MS/TP -” terminals at each controller at the end of a wire segment. The MNB-1000 and MNB-300 are equipped with a jumper-selectable end-of-line (EOL) termination resistor. The default position for the EOL jumper is “EOL termination not present.” See the MicroNet BACnet Smoke Control Systems Manual, F-27419, Chapter 5, “Approved MS/TP Repeaters”, Figure titled “UL 864 Listed MS/TP Repeater and Isolation”, Note 4, for an important exception, requiring external EOL for the MNB-300 and MNB-1000, when used on a bus with an approved repeater. If a UNC-520-2, ENC-520, MNB-V1 or MNB-V2 is installed at the end of the trunk, install a discrete 120 Ohm EOL resistor, part number EMSC-546, or equivalent. Cable Use of the proper cable is critical to the communications performance of the networked controllers. See the MicroNet BACnet Wiring, Networking, and Best Practices Guide, F-27360-7,Chapter 1, Table, “Approved Cable Types” for a list of recommended cable types. As shown in the table, cable selection affects both the maximum number of controllers allowed on the trunk, and the maximum baud rate. WorkPlace Tech Interface The MNB-ROAM-IA is the recommended communications converter for connecting WorkPlaceTech, including the WPT Commissioning and Flow Balance Tools, to an MS/TP trunk. It is supported in versions 5.7.1 and later. A converter that had been recommended earlier, the B & B Electronics model USOPTL4, was found not to operate reliably at speeds above 38.4 K baud. (See Direct MS-TP Connection with B & B Electronics Converters (Revised) - TB08-02-02 for details). The MNB-ROAM-IA supports Bluetooth wireless connection between WorkPlace Tech suite and the MS/TP network, for distances up to about 40 feet. One external Bluetooth adapter has been tested and approved - the Belkin USB adapter. (See Supported models of Bluetooth adapters with WorkPlace Tech for details). A problem we have seen with some MNB-ROAM-IAs is when trying to add Bluetooth device, the Bluetooth Wizard identifies it as "Serial Port Device, Unknown: Major(0), Minor(0)" instead of "tac-RoamIA:xxxxxxxx" where xxxxxxx is the serial number. There is no way for WPT to use the ROAM-IA if the computer can’t pair with it. Currently, there is no known solution, other than replacing the device. Divide and Conquer This is a strategy for dividing a bus into smaller sections in order to isolate a controller or section of bus that might be causing communication problems. The general idea is to divide the bus in half, and see if communications are possible from one end to the other end. If not, divide each half again, and continue until the problem(s) are found. Using WireShark to analyse communications on an Ethernet network

Issue General use of the Wireshark program. Product Line Access Expert, Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Expert, EcoStruxure Building Operation, Pelco, Satchwell MicroNet, Satchwell Sigma, TAC IA Series, TAC INET, TAC Vista Environment Ethernet Networks Cause General Information on using WireShark. Resolution Wireshark is an Ethernet packet analysis programme, Which can be downloaded from: Latest version available from Wireshark Locally stored version 1.0.9 Installing Wireshark If necessary, unzip the WireShark executable file to a suitable location on the PC/Laptop you wish the programme to be installed on. Run the executable file and follow the on-screen instructions. Rules for capturing LAN traffic using Wireshark: Do not use a switch or router to connect the LAN capture PC to the network as these will filter important network activity that you will need to see. You will want to capture everything that is passing over the network at the point of concern. Usually, this means tapping into the ethernet at the Controller or controllers, that is having an issue. midBit-Technologies-LLC-10-100 is an example of a device that can be used to easily tap into the network to take the capture. The monitoring PC must see all traffic from the controller's point of view. The monitoring PC can be connected in either two ways: Connected to the network at the controller The customers IT department can mirror all the network traffic from the controllers port to another port the PC can be connected to. If connected to the network at the controllers, the connection must be made through a true ethernet hub. A hub will not selectively filter important network traffic as a switch or a router will do. More information on what a "true ethernet hub" can be found at http://wiki.wireshark.org/HubReference There are however some switches that feature port mirroring, please see How to Configure a NETGEAR Prosafe Plus Switch for Mirroring. If connected to a mirrored port, the port must mirror 100% of the network traffic to and from the controller. No filtering should be done. Once a complete capture file has been obtained it can be filtered after the fact using WireShark or EtherReal. Using Wireshark Run WireShark Start a trace by choosing the "Capture" menu and then select "Interfaces" Choose the appropriate interface. Generally, this can be identified by its IP Address, but if not, then the packets increasing are an indication. Press the "Start" button. The trace will start and will be similar to the following screenshot. After an appropriate time, the trace can be stopped by selecting "Capture" menu and "Stop" To save the capture file, choose "File" menu and "Save As".

EH Series Humidity Sensors

Issue The specifications and setup details of the EH series humidity sensors. Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Operation, Field Devices, TAC IA Series, TAC INET, TAC Vista Environment Humidity Sensor Cause The EH Series Room, Duct and Outside humidity sensors are a universal Relative Humidity transmitter that can be powered with either a +15 to 36 Vdc or 24 Vac supply voltage. The EH series sensors are designed with a field selectable 4-20 mA, 0-5 Vdc, or 0-10 Vdc output signal that is equivalent to 0 to 100% RH. The EH Series is used in building automation system, humidity chambers, and OEM applications and is compatible with Vista, Continuum, I/Net, I/A, and SmartStruxure systems. Issue When should end-of-line (EoL) terminating resistors be installed on a BACnet/MSTP network? Product Line TAC IA Series Environment BACnet/MSTP network Cause Knowing where to implement the termination helps reduce signal reflections, which might cause issues in the system. Resolution Resistors of 120 ohm value must be installed at each end of a MSTP (or RS-485) trunk segment. They help reduce signal reflections and RF interference. Failure to install end-of-line resistors may result in intermittent communications.

Message "Unable to load WorkPlace Tech Ribbon for Visio" is displayed when attempting to open WorkPlace Tech

Issue The following Popup window is displayed when attempting to open WorkPlace Tech. WPTech Unable to load WorkPlace Tech Ribbon for Visio. There was a problem loading the WorkPlace Tech Fluent Ribbon for Visio, therefore, it will be unavailable. Product Line TAC IA Series Environment Visio 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019 WorkPlace Tech Tool release 5.8 or later Cause If Visio crashes when a third-party ribbon bar function is in use, Visio may lockout that ribbon bar, believing that something on that ribbon bar caused Visio to crash.  In this case, a menu function, selected from the WorkPlace Tech (WPT) ribbon bar was being processed at the time Visio crashed, therefore Visio locked out the WorkPlace Tech ribbon bar. This is a system protection mechanism built into the ribbon bar handler in all Microsoft Office applications including Visio.   Resolution To re-enable the WorkPlace Tech ribbon bar, perform the following steps: Open Visio.  NOTE: Open Visio, not WorkPlace Tech. Select Options from the File menu. From the menu in the Visio Options window, select Add-ins At the bottom of the window, you will see a field that says 'Manage:' with a selection box after it, select 'Disabled Items' and then click the [Go] button. In the 'Disabled Items' window, select 'WorkPlaceTech.VisioRibbon' then click the [Enable] button. Close the open Visio windows and sub-windows. After closing Visio, the WorkPlace Tech ribbon bar will be available in WorkPlace Tech.
