Making Changes to I/O Server

Issue Making changes to I/O Server with out logging into I/Net or I/Net Configuration Environment All versions of I/Net Seven prior to 2.40 Cause Without login on to I/Net or the Configuration Editor, changes can be made to the system and accepted. Resolution When I/Net is launched it authenticates the user thus allowing the changes, however, if the user does not log on, the buttons that require this authentication are all grayed out., So it may look like changes can be made but notice that the OK button does not become available, so no changes will be saved in version 2.40 and above.

A Niagara R2 station with a LON integration, running on a laptop, will not communicate with controllers connected via an Echelon USB-LON adapter.

Issue A jobsite does not have a UNC.  A laptop running a Niagara R2 station with the LonWorks Service is used to manage the peer-to-peer LON bindings.  In admin tool, the station says it is running but the MNL controllers are not communicating. Environment Niagara R2 Cause The same laptop is installed with WorkPlace Tech and it is configured for LON communications using the same adapter as the Niagara station. A conflict exists with these two programs trying to use the same adapter for LON communications.  In most cases, the adapter is assigned an address of LON1. Resolution Close WorkPlace Tech or re-configure the communications setup so that LON1 is not used. Re-start the Niagara station.  LON1 will now be available to the station.  To confirm this, look for the following lines in the standard output window: LON Card Resetting!! LON Card reset complete!! Opened lonworks LON1 >>> Lon Driver opened!

The Response Speed is very slow when Add Points in 3rd Party OPC Client from Vista OPC Server for the 1st time

Issue When adding points in 3 rd party OPC client from Vista OPC server for the 1 st time, the response speed is very slow. For example, for about 1000 points, there will be about 20 minutes to finish the 1 st time insertion. The LTA is Xenta server. Environment Vista OPC Server Xenta Server Cause A Xenta server can only read maximum 10 to 15 values per second on the Lonworks side. And for Vista OPC server, it will poll all the points for their values from controller when these points are added in 3 rd party OPC client for the first time. So the communication load will be very high for this process, especially for huge amount of points added simultaneously, which exceeds the LonWorks communication capability of Xenta server. Resolution To solve this issue, the OPC server computer can be disconnected from the LonWorks network first. Then add these points in OPC client when the OPC server is offline. The speed will increase greatly. Then connect the OPC server to the LonWorks network, and the fresh interval of the first will also be very quick.

Random "'Bit count not supported by system" access events reported.

Issue Valid card swipes sometimes successfully unlock the door and other times result in invalid attempts with the message "Bit count not supported by system" Environment CyberStation ACX7xx CX9900 CX9702 CX9680 ACX5740 ACX5720 Cause Random bit count not supported by system events typically indicate that the signal from the card swipe at the reader got corrupted on its way to the panel, this happens on very long runs (reader is too far from panel) or due to wiring issues and/or electrical noise interfering with the signal. Resolution Make sure the max distance from reader to panel has not been exceeded. (A Wiegand signal repeater may be used) Make sure the reader wire conforms to the specs in the controller's installation guide. Eliminate any source of electrical noise that may be interfering with the card swipe signal on its way to the panel.

How to test an Infinet bus using a volt meter.

Issue What voltage should be seen across conductors on an Infinet bus? Environment Infinet RS-485 Cause Communication issues on RS-485 bus. Resolution  Measuring Ground Potential Signal Potential refers to the horizontal plane along which signals are sent and received with respect to ground.  RS-485 requires that all devices communicating with each other be at a reasonable ground potential. Measuring the ground potential of any Infinet controller Use a voltmeter to measure between the earth ground connection (for power) and the Infinet shield connection.   Measuring the ground difference between the Infinet controller and the ground at the InfiLink or CX/NetController (shield grounding point). Set the multi meter to measure AC voltage; measure and record the AC voltage (ACV) between + and -. A reading higher than 2-3 volts indicates a grounding problem. Set the multi meter to measure DC voltage; measure and record the DC voltage (DCV) between +and -. A reading higher than 2 to 3V on either voltage indicates a grounding problem. Calculate the combined voltage using the following formula. (1.4 X ACV) + DCV = Combined Voltage. If the combined voltage is greater than 7 a grounding problem exists
