AVEVA Plant SCADA: Date Picker with Calendar Genie

Issue Historically, picking a date in Citect has always been achieved using the Microsoft Date and Time Picker Control 6.0 Active X object that comes along with most Windows installation. However, as time progresses on, this Active X is no longer as popular as it used to be. Often, projects which uses the Active X, which are migrated from older systems into a new Windows 10 or above environment will fail on Compile. And installing the Active X is often difficult because it may require installing a whole bunch of un-related software just to get it. And many times, even with the Active X already in the environment, the project still does not Compile, or fail to run properly. Resolution There is an alternative to using Date and Time Picker Control 6.0 Active X and this article is to introduce how to use the Calendar Genie in lib_controls Library to do that. It will involve the implementation of a Callback Function, and this article explains how this is to be created and used.     Disclaimer The views and opinions expressed in this article are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of Schneider Electric.

Lexium Cobot - Palletizing Application Instruction

Issue You're targeting a palletizing application or an application where you have evenly spaced action points (e.g. drilling in material working) and don't want to teach all points separately. Resolution The Pallet application instruction offers an interface to easily teach endpoints and distributes points in between evenly, based on the instruction setup. The instruction helps setup the action points and encapsulates instructions to be performed at each waypoint. EcoStruxure Control Expert - Maximize Programming Efficiency with POU

Issue The IEC 61131-3 not only describes the PLC programming languages themselves, but also offers comprehensive concepts and guidelines for creating PLC projects. Defined in IEC 61131 standard, a Program Organization Unit (POU) provides a modular and hierarchical way of structuring programs that makes it easier to develop, debug, and maintain industrial control programs. How will this concept be used to organize and structure industrial control programs? Resolution In this document the term POU is used for programming elements in general that can contain IEC code, such as methods, properties, interfaces etc. The term Program Organization Unit (POU) is used for all programming objects (programs, function blocks, functions, etc.) which are used to create a controller application.   Disclaimer The views and opinions expressed in this article are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of Schneider Electric.

KB - System Time Stamping Solution without Programming

Issue There are two available solutions to implement time stamping with EcoStruxure Control Expert, both methods are easy to implement and can be selected for use in almost any circumstance. Applicative – A function block is required for third-party SCADA to convert and read the information System – No programming is required (some components are needed) System and Applicative time stamping modes are exclusive in the same EcoStruxure Control Expert application running in the controllers. In this article, we will investigate the System Time Stamping solution. Resolution System Time Stamping provides a consistent SOE (sequence of events), time stamped at the source, to allow the user to analyse the source of abnormal behaviour in a distributed automation system. The SOE is displayed in an alarm summary or SOE page of a client (such as a SCADA). Each source of time stamped event of the SOE is a discrete I/O value change (transition) detected by a time stamping module, this event is then passed through to OFS and straight to the SCADA. How to Determine the Optimal CPU Performance for Modicon M580 Safety

Issue The Modicon M580 Safety controller can execute single task and multi-task applications. Unlike a single task application which only executes the MAST task, a multi-task application defines the priority of each task. When a task is running, it can be interrupted by another task with a higher relative priority. For example, when a periodic task is scheduled to execute its code, it would interrupt a lower priority task, but would wait until the completion of a higher priority task. Resolution For optimal CPU performance, Schneider Electric recommends that the total percentage of CPU bandwidth consumed by an application not exceed 80%. Users will need to determine the CPU bandwidth and fine tune to adjust the tasks period for an optimal CPU performance. Disclaimer The views and opinions expressed in this article are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of Schneider Electric.
