Manage forced variables in a PLC program has been a challenge on the industry for decades. Ideally every plant manager wants a ZERO force policy but in real world this not possible and eventually a force must be put in place to ensure production KPIs. Then the challenge becomes how to manager those forces. The solution to manage forces is to give full transparency by showing the status of forced variables in a SCADA system where operation managers and maintenance managers could see and take the needful action to replace the damaged sensors and then removed the forces in the PLC program. This KB shows an easy way to manage forces through the OPC quality code by displaying it in the supervision system.

Issue EcoStruxure Control Expert doesn't provide Double length real calculation functions. Resolution This library performs Long real calculation using an array type LREAL of 2 Dword, where the long real is coded using IEEE 754 format. The zip file attached contains the library, a FBD section to test the library and a tool allowing to convert the IEEE 754 format (useful to make the test) Be aware that all the controls are not performed when overflow happens, so use the library with care, mainly when you perform type conversions. Issue Architecture using Modicon M580 with PTP protocol (PMEGPS0100) and the solution accuracy Resolution The EcoStruxure architecture and platform is open and interoperable, as noted in this document. The transparency of the Modcion M580 ePAC controller enables multiple architectures without the need for switches while maintaining network transparency. As it is open and transparent, it allows the use of a third-party module from Monaghan (approved) using the PTP protocol to guarantee an accuracy of 1ms for the SOE (Sequence Of Events) digital inputs. How to Enable Native Citect Scada OPC DA Server on EcoStruxure Process Expert? In EcoStruxure Process Expert 2019 (former HDCS) and previous versions the communication between the supervision participant Citect Scada and Modicon PAC controllers are handle by OFS – OPC Factory Server. The OFS is an OPC DA Server which is installed in the same server as the EPE operation server(s). Whenever a third-party software needs to collect data from EPE it can be done by connecting to OFS Server in either primary or standby operation server. This solution using OFS Server as an unique OPC DA Server to interface with other system works fine but some customers standard or customers best practice doesn’t allow other systems to collect data direct from the controllers. These customers prefer third-party software collecting data from the supervision servers. Another motivating force to have an OPC DA server enabled on supervision participant is that some projects could have calculate variables on supervision which does not exist on control project...

All control projects require some level of time synchronization. The time synchronization serves a fundamental role in any network, but it's too often added as an afterthought. However, it can mean the difference between correctly troubleshooting in minutes and returning the production to the desired level or having no idea about what caused production lost. The Network Time Protocol is a client-server protocol and has been widely adopted in all kind of Industries since 1985. It is a low-cost solution that can be easily applied for all EcoStruxure Process Expert architectures.

Issue Schneider Electric provides M580 ePAC and Ethernet modules. Several architectures are already documented. However, the need of customer sometimes is different and requires a specific architecture. In this case, we will have a look on remarks and questions regarding topology and modules characteristics with a special focus to avoid broadcast storms. Resolution From extraction of the EcoStruxure Control Expert Help and “M580 Ethernet Remote IO / Distributed IO Principles and Technologies” document, this article reminds the basic rules of the Ethernet ports of modules and Ethernet cables to connect or not, to avoid broadcast storm. Issue Using Modbus serial communication with third-party equipment requires complex logic to manage priorities and diagnostics. Resolution The General Purpose library (GPL) has powerful functions and only needs a simple configuration for the implementation of this communication. This document shows the implementation of a serial Modbus client and scanner communication, in EcoStruxure Process Expert. The GPL library is also available for EcoStruxure Control expert as a standalone library and the two examples described can be easily reused on this software platform. Issue There are two available solutions to implement time stamping with EcoStruxure Control Expert, both methods are easy to implement and can be selected for use in almost any circumstance. Applicative – A function block is required for third-party SCADA to convert and read the information System – No programming is required (some components are needed) System and Applicative time stamping modes are exclusive in the same EcoStruxure Control Expert application running in the controllers. In this article, we will investigate the System Time Stamping solution. Resolution System Time Stamping provides a consistent SOE (sequence of events), time stamped at the source, to allow the user to analyse the source of abnormal behaviour in a distributed automation system. The SOE is displayed in an alarm summary or SOE page of a client (such as a SCADA). Each source of time stamped event of the SOE is a discrete I/O value change (transition) detected by a time stamping module, this event is then passed through to OFS and straight to the SCADA.
