Issue
Schneider Electric provides common Ethernet/IP communication feature on M340 and M580.
In typical robotic application where a robot arms quickly exchanges tools to switch tasks, it takes about 10 seconds for the communication to be connected in common Ethernet/IP.
The robot can disconnect and reconnect on the fly a new tool without stopping the manufacturing process.
EtherNet/IP QuickConnect technology enables EtherNet/IP devices to quickly power up and connect an EtherNet/IP network and start I/O cyclic data exchange in less than 500ms.
Performance Requirements
The time to establish a connection depends on the end device :
- An EtherNet/IP QuickConnect device powers up in ≤ 300 ms (power on)
- An EtherNet/IP controller and network infrastructure establishes connection in ≤ 200 ms (scanner on)
Even if by the current design of the NOC modules (M340 and M580) QuickConnect feature is not implemented, this article will explain how to setup and manage QuickConnect devices.
