Diagnostics

Commander CDiggin Commander
‎2024-03-11 08:49 AM

This section describes the diagnostic tests you can perform on your UPS.

NOTE: You cannot remotely perform diagnostic tests on your UPS if you do not have an active Standard or Advanced plan. For more information, see SmartConnect Subscriptions.

NOTE: SmartConnect must be enabled ‘with Control’ for Run New Test and Play features to work properly. This also applies for other features such as remote firmware upgrade installation and reboot on Advanced plan. Find out how to adjust SmartConnect Control settings.

Diagnostic
Description
UPS Self Test
A UPS self test checks the condition of your device’s battery and the internal components used to operate the device in battery mode. The Last Test Result page displays the result and timestamp of the most recently completed UPS self test.

Click Run New Test to initiate a self test diagnostic. The Test Steps page displays the progress of the self test diagnostic – Starting, Pending, and In Progress.

When complete, the Test Result page displays the result of the self test. If the self test could not be initiated via the Web Portal, an error message is displayed. NOTE: It may take up to 4 minutes for the result to display in the Web Portal.

Self Test Results:
  • Aborted: The self test ended prematurely. For example, the UPS device was manually powered off during the self test.
  • Unsuccessful: There is an issue with your UPS device. The Replace Battery and/or UPS Fault (Error Code) active events may be triggered.
  • Passed: No issues were found with the UPS device’s battery or internal components used to operate the device in battery mode.
  • Refused: The self test could not be completed as the UPS did not meet the running conditions. Ensure that:
– the UPS device is powered on, i.e. the UPS Output Power Turned Off active event is not displayed in the Web Portal
– the UPS battery is connected, i.e the Battery Disconnected active event is not displayed in the Web Portal
– the UPS device’s controlled outlet group(s) is (are) powered on, if applicable
–the UPS device’s battery is sufficiently charged
– active events related to an Unsuccessful self test result
– the UPS battery is not overheating
– the UPS is not overloaded
Audible Alarm
The audible alarm is used to physically locate your UPS device. Sounding the alarm causes the device to beep for a few seconds. Click the Play button to initiate the audible alarm.

If the Run New Test and Play buttons are disabled in the Web Portal, ensure that SmartConnect access is enabled on your Smart-UPS. This can be manually enabled via the UPS device’s LCD screen. For more information, consult your UPS manual. Your UPS manual can be viewed in the Documents section in the UPS Status page.

Once initiated, a diagnostic test will continue to run in the background until it has completed. Navigating away from the Diagnostics section or the UPS Status page will not interrupt the self test or audible alarm.
