How can I Implement a Protected Engineering Link for Modicon M340

Issue With the shift towards a data-centered world and highly networked industrial environments, modern Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) have become a potential target for cyber-attacks. The attack vectors have evolved due to the adoption of a connected operational model, providing hackers with new methods for manipulating, interrupting, or disrupting PLC operations in all industries and on all platforms. The purpose of this article is to guide you in setting up a protected connection between EcoStruxure Control Expert and the Modicon M340 controller. Understand the impact on Modicon M340's performance when the Protected Engineering Link is activated. Resolution A secure authentication method is implemented to secure and encrypt the connection for Modicon M340 reservations, ensuring a protected engineering/programming connection to the Modicon M340 CPU. Disclaimer The views and opinions expressed in this article are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of Schneider Electric.

How to Hide Labels at startup in Supervision Project of EcoStruxure Process Expert?

In some complex projects the supervision pages are very crowded, and labels can overlap other objects and for the operator is not convenient to have to hide the labels at every supervision startup.   This article explains a very convenient way to customize the supervision project to hide labels at startup and still allowing the operator to show the labels again during the runtime if needed.

EcoStruxure Automation Expert - Using the HMI Log File to Debug or Track Changes

Issue For traceability reasons, it is sometimes necessary to time-stamp modifications made by the operator on the HMI and the controller's actions. The archiving function is one possibility. Another lighter option is to use the HMI log file. This function can be accessed directly from the HMI, using a few C# functions to record events. It can also be used to debug C# code to display messages or values, without having to use the debugging tool (Visual Studio) or the message boxes that require acknowledgement. Resolution The aim of this document is to provide the information required to use the HMI log file. EcoStruxure Machine Expert - How to send Email to Gmail Account using the 2-Step Verification

Issue Due to the discontinuation of support for less secure apps and user Google Accounts, an application thatutilizes the SendEmail and ReceiveEmail functions is no longer operational. To maintaining account security, Google no longer endorses the use of third-party applications or devices that require users to sign into their Google Account login with their username and password. Allowing sing-ins from less secure applications can increase the risk of hackers gaining access to your account. Blocking sing-ins from such applications is a measure that can help keep your account secure Resolution App passwords aren’t recommended and are unnecessary in most cases. To help keep your account secure, use “Sign in with Google” to connect apps to your Google Account. An app password is a 16-digit password that gives a less secure app or device permission to access your Google Account Disclaimer The views and opinions expressed in this article are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of Schneider Electric.

EcoStruxure Control Expert - How to Manage Device DTMs within Topology Manager

Issue Automation devices with their DTM are typically managed by EcoStruxure™ Control Expert Classic from the DTM Browser at each controller's level. In a multiple controllers system architecture, users must manage the device configuration information individually from each of its *.STU file. Resolution With Topology Manager functionality, all automation Devices (with DTMs) can be managed very easily at the Topology Manager system level. This makes the device configuration independent from *.STU file. Moving away from the traditional EcoStruxure™ Control Expert Classic using the DTM Browser of each controller's level.   This article will show you how Topology Manager handles Device DTMs and their I/O profiles.
