Issue This document outline some of the user experience with respect to supervision project performance while using EcoStruxure Hybrid DCS. Use cases are like slow page update, alarm / trend & communication errors when dealing with large scale projects. There are multiple factors which effects supervision performance, however, can be finetuned with user experience. Majority of them are covered in this document to address such scenario. Issue There are two available solutions to implement time stamping with EcoStruxure Control Expert, both methods are easy to implement and can be selected for use in almost any circumstance. Applicative – A function block is required for third-party SCADA to convert and read the information System – No programming is required (some components are needed) System and Applicative time stamping modes are exclusive in the same EcoStruxure Control Expert application running in the controllers. In this article, we will investigate the System Time Stamping solution. Resolution System Time Stamping provides a consistent SOE (sequence of events), time stamped at the source, to allow the user to analyse the source of abnormal behaviour in a distributed automation system. The SOE is displayed in an alarm summary or SOE page of a client (such as a SCADA). Each source of time stamped event of the SOE is a discrete I/O value change (transition) detected by a time stamping module, this event is then passed through to OFS and straight to the SCADA. Issue How to configure and implement redundant I/O network using PRP technology within a Modicon M580 High-Availability Architecture? Resolution This article provides a step-by-step guide to configure and implement a Modicon M580 High-availability architecture with a redundant I/O network relying on PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) network technology. Such an architecture includes at least: -two Modicon M580 Redundant CPUs (primary and standby) -one Ethernet Remote I/O drop managed by one or two redundant communication adapter BMECRA31310(H) -two Modicon Managed Switches -two Modicon Redundancy Switches supporting PRP. Issue MQTT, used for IIOT object communication, mainly uses JSON to encode information. This document will show you how EcoStruxure Automation Expert can handle JSON strings. Issue Once a Modicon Edge I/O NTS distributed system is configured using the configurator or the web interface, the next step is to download the configuration into the target hardware. At this stage, there may be input/output modules that are part of the detected hardware using an older firmware version that is not compatible. To overcome this configuration mismatch, an update of the firmware of the existing modules is required. Resolution The purpose of this article is to show how to perform bulk firmware update for input/output modules that are part of a Modicon Edge I/O NTS island using EcoStruxure Automation Device Maintenance. Issue Using Modbus serial communication with third-party equipment requires complex logic to manage priorities and diagnostics. Resolution The General Purpose library (GPL) has powerful functions and only needs a simple configuration for the implementation of this communication. This document shows the implementation of a serial Modbus client and scanner communication, in EcoStruxure Process Expert. The GPL library is also available for EcoStruxure Control expert as a standalone library and the two examples described can be easily reused on this software platform. Issue The Topology Manager Client-Server model, or Client-Server Architecture, is a distributed application framework dividing tasks between servers and clients, which either reside in the same computer system or communicate through an Ethernet network. It simplifies the automation life cycle by managing multi-controllers with a central repository for all project files and providing visibility of the entire system architecture. How do I set up a central repository to store all the system project files and manage multiple controllers? Toplogy Manager Client-Server Architecture Resolution Technically, there’s no limit to the number of clients. There’s only one installation file that installs both EcoStruxure Control Expert and the Topology Manager. Both server and client files are always installed together. Issue With the standard real-time data retrieval from controllers using Node Red or EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert, we must add Modbus addresses to Unity Pro/EcoStruxure Control Expert variables. This increases the deployment time and effort considering that there may be iterations leading to the final variable list. Since Modbus deals natively with bytes, and the Modbus nodes generally provide data in 16-bit numbers (int, word), they must be further converted to 32-bit types using additional nodes or JS functions. Bit extraction from words also need separate nodes. Often WiFi media is used to connect the EcoStruxure Augmented Operator Advisor App on a tablet to the EcoStruxure Augmented Operator Advisor runtime. The WiFi network and/or WiFi devices may not be secure. Hence, these must be placed in an untrusted zone separated from the trusted SCADA+Controller zone by a firewall. Incoming connections from untrusted zones to trusted zones should be avoided. Outgoing connections from the trusted zone to untrusted zones can be allowed and must be monitored. To protect the controller from accidental/malicious Modbus commands, a deep packet inspection firewall (E.g. Tofino) is required. Resolution As a proof-of-concept, this article proposes to write real-time data from CItect SCADA to the EcoStruxure Augmented Operator Advisor Runtime via HTTP/json commands. This approach can mitigate the issues described above. Background Many of us are experienced EcoStruxure Process Expert (formerly EcoStruxure Hybrid DCS) users. With our extensive experience, we normally just jump straight into any new versions of EcoStruxure Hybrid DCS and we are on our way.
