Issue Customers would like to monitor the power supply modules of the Modicon M580 controller and observe whether they function correctly. Resolution The Modicon X80 Redundant Power Supply module beside providing power supply module redundancy coming from different power sources, it can also provide users monitoring and diagnostics information. Issue References are widely used in programming, especially to efficiently pass large or mutable data as arguments to procedures, or to share such data among various uses. A reference may point to a variable or record that contains references to other data. This idea is the basis of indirect addressing and of many linked data structures, such as linked lists. Resolution There are many advantages of using variables reference over pointer variables (like in C++ programming) such as: A reference variable does not consume any extra memory. It has the same memory address as the variable it refers to. While a pointer needs extra space for itself. In order to access the value of the referenced variable using pointer, we need to use a dereferencing operator whereas we can do the same using reference variable without any dereferencing method. Reference variables are cleaner and modish as compared to the pointers; they can also be used while passing in the function as arguments, known as call by references. Issue To configure and establish an EtherNet/IP communication between an M580 controller and an Edge I/O NTS island, the I/O system's EDS file needs to be imported into Control Expert EDS library. However, Control Expert V16.2 offers a seemless integration using the EtherNet/IP built-in DTM for Edge I/O NTS. Resolution This article provides a step-by-step guide to configure and integrate a Modicon Edge I/O NTS island in an M580 standalone architecture using the EtherNet/IP built-in DTM (Device Type Manager) in EcoStruxure Control Expert. Issue The EmailHandling library implements function blocks to send and receive emails with the controller application support secure and unsecure communication with an email server. Since it is not recommended to use unsecure communication over public networks and above all over the internet. Furthermore, the most popular public email servers do not support unsecure communication. Therefore, a direct communication between the M241/M251 controller and the public email server is not possible. Resolution To address this issue, the recommended third-party tool to use is stunnel. Stunnel is a proxy designed to add TLS encryption functionality to existing clients (controllers) and servers (public email) without any changes in the program’s code. Stunnel uses the OpenSSL library for cryptography, so it supports whatever cryptographic algorithms are compiled into the library. Issue DC Bus Sharing is a good option to share and to save energy in a multiple axis application instead of burning energy in a ballast resistor.During deceleration a motor acts as a generator and this regenerated kinetic energy is saved in the integrated capacitors and if it is too much burned in the internal or external capacitors.A common DC Bus is useful, for example, if one axis is accelerating and one is decelerating.
