cannot uninstall powerchute personal on vista

im having the same problems as previous users. i just installed powerchute personal 2.0 i think from a cd that came with my battery backup, and now that ive downloaded the vista version, i cannot uninstall the old one.

pretty much the same problem as the guy from this thread: Referenced content removed

if someone could email me or post exact instructions on how to uninstall this powerchute version from vista i would really appreciate it. thanks!

Oh please, may I too have these instructions to remove Power Chute Personal Edition 2.0 from my machine?

Isn't it beyond belief that customers have to go through this to get rid of software? Have to come here and individually ask for permission/The Keys to remove your software from OUR machines? Does this encourage us to think APC next time we shop?

Disregard sending my the instructions - I solved it myself.

Whatever MORON at APC thought this scheme up should be tossed off a bridge. Lets have every customer email us for Secret Instructions. The dumbest thing I have ever encountered in fifteen years of IT not to mention wasting an hour of my time for no reason at all.

Another couple questions:

Is PowerChute PE Windows 7 certified WHQL

The reason I ask is because I am Win7 UAC prompted every time I click on the tray icon.
I figured I would uninstall and reinstall selecting run as Administrator... however
when I try to run the .msi installer there is no choice to run as Admin.

I find it very hard to understand how APC being the #1 UPS company in the year 2010 can release software without a clean uninstall. Then expect customers to call for uninstall procedures is just plain ludicrous. For years I have been an APC advocate, however, after this fiasco I am truly reconsidering.

PS: Why is it next to impossible to find specs/manuals/info on units sold from SamsClub?

I don't mean to burn your ears, but if you can pass a bit of our frustration to corporate it would be much appreciated. (like they don't know) 😉

replacing a SmartUPS 1200 with a SmartUPS 1500. tried to uninstall PE 2.0 on Windows Server 2003 and have gotten either "APC is not attached" or "not enough disk space" error.

try to install 2.2 patch and it says "PE not installed."

try to reinstall PE and it says "previous edition installed - would you like to uninstall?" - saying yes gets "not enough disk space" error.

want to uninstall and install Business Edition.

I (stupidly) installed powerchute personal edition 2.1 on a SBS 2008 Server. Smarter now, I purchased an SMT-750 ups and want to install powerchute Business edition. However, as with everyone else, I cannot uninstall the personal edition 2.1. Can you please email me the uninstall instructions applicable to a SBS 2008 Server operating system.

I just purchased a new hp touchscreen computer with vista, I managed to install the new software for my APC power protection, but when the computer goes into sleep mode when it awakens again there is a bubble that tells me APC is unable to communicate... then the message goes away and the program is running alright. Is that okay? I am not a computer tech, so I am just asking to make sure the software is working correctly.

I just upgraded my client to a Smart UPS 1500 and it came with PowerChute Business 8.5 but it will not install until I remove the old Powerchute version. I cannot remove this from the server. Please send me instructions on how to manually remove powerchute from the server. Win Server 2003.

This shouldn't be in this forum....but I'll still assist.


Ideally, when your machine goes to Sleep mode it's disabling USB communication, therefore, making the software unable to communicate with the UPS. When using PowerChute, at no point in time should any power saving mode be used, as the software cannot wake the machine to tell it to go into hibernation for safe shutdown purposes.

Trying to uninstall powerchute version 2 to install version 3, will not uninstall (via control panel- says it does but it did not) on Win XP 32 bit. Also took out of start up file (Msconfig).

Please send instuctions. Installed version 3 on Win 7 64 bit with not problems, so want to put on Win XP. Currently a lot of rain here, so want to make certain it is covered.

Fore the record, I installed PowerChute Personal on Windows Server 2003 R2.
I realized that email notification is not supported.
went to uninstall Personal (downloaded business)
Business Edition recognizes the UPS during install then when you goto the admin web interface I get: Device Communications Not Established
is Personal conflicting with Business? or do I have other problems?

Ryan,

There are several factors that could be causing this.

Did you uninstall PCPE before installing PCBE?
What version of PCBE did you install?
When you installed PCBE agent did it automatically detect the UPS?
What is the model and serial number of the UPS?
What is the part number on the comm cable you are using?
Does PCBE detect if the UPS goes on battery?
Are there any firewalls blocking ports?

All this would be helpful in determining a cause.

just an FYI,

i understand where everyone is coming from on having to contact APC for the instructions but APC has come to the decision on not publically posting the keys for the following reasons:

* APC cannot be liable for any damage done to the registry while working with the registry keys provided - even though we can post that disclaimer here with the instructions, APC still does not wish to post it on the site and have it available for users to blame APC for damage to their operating system somehow
* We also want to make sure that before we give out the keys/instructions, they NEED to be given out for the particular issue at hand
i understand we cant please everyone with this but that is the real reasoning behind posting here/emailing APC for the procedure instead of us posting it directly on the website.

I tried to uninstall personal, but when I hit the uninstall button within add/remove software nothing happens.
so yes, I then installed the business version without personal uninstalled.
the business install did recognize the UPS during the install.
the model is a Back-UPS 1500, I believe the install recogniced that it had an LCD screen.
I am using the RJ45-USB cable provided with the UPS.

I would have no problem having to contact APC for specific registry keys
IF: the uninstall worked correctly.

Solution?: publish an uninstall utility

Hi Ryan,

If PCPE was not uninstalled fully before PCBE was installed it could be interfering with the process. I would uninstall PCBE and then contact tech support to manually remove PCPE.

I'm having to assume your UPS is either a BX1500LCD or a BR1500LCD. If this is the case there is a specific cable to use it with PCBE. To obtain the RJ45 - serial cable let tech support know while your on the line and they can send on out for you. Because this is a Back-UPS it will only work with PCBE in simple signaling.
