cannot uninstall powerchute personal on vista

im having the same problems as previous users. i just installed powerchute personal 2.0 i think from a cd that came with my battery backup, and now that ive downloaded the vista version, i cannot uninstall the old one.

pretty much the same problem as the guy from this thread: Referenced content removed

if someone could email me or post exact instructions on how to uninstall this powerchute version from vista i would really appreciate it. thanks!

    I have a self-built desktop, with WIN XP PRO SP3. The APC unit failed and was disconnected. I turned off the start link, rebooted and when I tried to uninstall the program in Control Panel, it told me that

the "....\ctor.dll" could not be installed and that the process would fail. I have ripped out programs previously, that refused to be deleted, and they went away quietly. I'm not feeling the same way about this one.

Would you be able to send me an appropiate set of uninstall directions, to guide me forward, so that when I purchase my next APC Backup system, I won't have a problem installing it's monitoring system. I've

Same problem here on Win Server 2008, instructions on removal would be appreciated so i can install the Vista version which i presume would work better 🙂

I have the exact same problem, funny that Vista upgrade advisor didn't show any problems with the PowerChute software when upgrading from XP Pro to Vista.

I am going to post the instructions, since so many people have requested them. This should allow all customers that legitimately need the registry keys for an uninstall to get them quickly. I feel that you, our customers, have the right to access this information in a convenient fashion and will make the right decisions when choosing to use it. However I must make the following clear:

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE IS MEANT TO ONLY BE USED BY INDIVIDUALS COMFORTABLE WITH WINDOWS REGISTRY EDITOR., AND WHO CANNOT UNINSTALL OUR SOFTWARE USING NORMAL MEANS. IF YOU DO NOT FEEL 100% CONFIDENT IN MOVING THROUGH THE STEPS BELOW AFTER READING THEM, DO NOT PROCEED. PLEASE CALL APC TECH SUPPORT AT 1-800-800-4272.*

BE AWARE THAT IMPROPER USE OF THE REGISTRY EDITOR CAN PREVENT OPERATING SYSTEM BOOT, OPERATION, AND RENDER OTHER PROGRAMS USELESS. USE CAUTION WHEN FOLLOWING THE MANUAL UNINSTALL PROCEDURE!!*

Please note that some registry keys may be missing from your list. If this is the case, please skip those entries entirely and do NOT delete a value that "looks" like one of ours. If the uninstall is not successful or you have a question about a registry key, please call APC tech support for further help. APC will not be liable for damage caused by improper use of the registry editor, and APC will not support customization of registry keys or procedures not outlined in the steps below.+

You will want to kill the apcsystray.exe and mainserve.exe processes if running before you do the following steps:
1. From the installation directory in Explorer (e.g. C:\Program Files\APC\APC PowerChute Personal Edition) remove the entire contents from the first 'APC' down, that is assuming you used the default path and you do not have any other APC products installed.

2. In the Registry (open by going to Start->Run->type 'regedit')
a. go to the 'My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\APC' key. If you do not have any other APC products installed delete the entire APC key, otherwise just delete the APC PowerChute Personal Edition key.
b. go to the 'My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall' and then search for PowerChute Personal Edition. This should return a key with the following contents:
DisplayName
LogFile
UninstallString.

Please remove these strings. You will not be able to remove the entire key as it is write protected by InstallShield. *Note: Keep a track on the 'name of the string', if should be something like {5A0C892E-FD1C-4203-941E-0956AED20A6A}, but this will be depend on what InstallShield assign to it.

3. In Explorer go to C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information and look for the string that stores our infomation, it will be the same as that in the registry. (e.g. 5A0C892E-FD1C-4203-941E-0956AED20A6A). You will need to remove this directory also.

Edit:If we find more registry keys that are relevant to the manual uninstall process we will post them here. In the meantime, please only report these keys, or call APC Tech Support. Proceeding with the deletion of keys that aren't listed will be unsupported and APC will not be liable for, or support/troubleshoot any damage caused by such an action.

time_paradox, try using the Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the application.  If this wouldn't work then follow the guide that I have sent you.
