cannot uninstall powerchute personal on vista

im having the same problems as previous users. i just installed powerchute personal 2.0 i think from a cd that came with my battery backup, and now that ive downloaded the vista version, i cannot uninstall the old one.

pretty much the same problem as the guy from this thread: Referenced content removed

if someone could email me or post exact instructions on how to uninstall this powerchute version from vista i would really appreciate it. thanks!

I think I need these instructions for Vista 64. I was able to uninstall the software, but I never got back the original battery option. It seems like the APC driver takes precedence over the original Vista driver. Now that I have a new battery device that is not an APC device I can't get it to connect to the machine at all.

I have multiple APC units and multiple machines. The 2008 Server may not have it on there yet, but I would rather not keep asking... The others definitely do. I'm not in the office, so I'm hoping that the year of installation will be sufficient. The install was performed in 2009. I usually download fresh, and not count on the CD's to have the latest version. It is probably some flavor of version 2. It's using JExpress, I believe. First error was pointing to the Jre6 java folder. Once I fixed that to point to jre7, nothing happens when I click uninstall, no error, no action.

Windows 7x64
Windows Vista x32 and x64
Windows Server 2003
Windows Server 2008

I do think a disclaimer in the posted instructions about the dangers of registry manipulation would save everyone some time and grief. Even Microsoft posts registry edit type information in their knowledge base.

Anyway, I mostly need to know how to completely remove the APC drivers, trying to unistall in the device manger does no good. I am having the same issue with trying to uninstall PowerChute 2.0 to replace it with PowerChute 2.1.1. I had a vista system to start with and loaded the original powerchute from a disc. Can someone please send me the instructions/keys that I need.

im having the same problems as previous users. i just installed powerchute personal 2.0 i think from a cd that came with my battery backup, and now that ive downloaded the vista version, i cannot uninstall the old one.

pretty much the same problem as the guy from this thread: Referenced content removed

I just installed Powerchute Personal 2.0 on two XP Pro machines at home.

I need to uninstall, and there is no uninstall option.

Behavior is incredibly flaky. On return from hibernation on one machine this morning, APC systray applet was missing in action, it would not load to systray. The other executable than than the systray applet launches, but most options have vanished, you cannot set shutdown immediately or n minutes before battery dies, because the only option that appears for either is zero minutes.

Seems to be incredibly buggy stuff. I will pry this out of the registry myself if I have to.

I would welcome an explanation as to why there is NO UNINSTALL, not even in Add/Remove programs applet.

Hi,

I did just send you the registry keys. It seems that if that behavior is occuring that there was a good chance of an incomplete install. Let's get that stuff out of the registry and reinstall the software.

As to why it's not in A/R Programs, I cannot tell you. I've never come across that on a complete install.

I'm working on finding a way to get my superiors to Ok posting the Document in the Knowledge Base. I believe the hesitation is because it deals with the Windows Registry.

However, you should have an email with the keys.


And the software isn't responsible for the partial uninstall. There is usually something else conflicting with the uninstall process.

Thanks - That worked, but Power / battery icon check box is grayed out in Properties. I uninstalled the driver and it promptly reinstalled itself after reboot. I guess I need the MS driver back, and I want to avoid a repair. Is there a way around this?
