bh500net APC Back-UPS HS 500 username and password problem

I logged into the unit via the web interface with the default username of "apc" and default password of "apc". Used IE of course since Firefox isn't supported.

I went and tried to change the username and password. I used a complicated password that had capital letters and an Exclaimation point "!" in it. And I change the username to "admin". I hit ok and it said are you sure, and I said "yes". Now I can't log in. It is like it scrambled my password. I'm 100% sure I know the password, and since the password box didn't obfuscate it, I know i didn't misstype it when I originally typed it in.

I tried popping the front cover off of the unit and doing a manual reset with a paperclip. I did that while the unit was turned on, with the unit turned off, and even with the unit unplugged. Tried it for 5 seconds like the manual says, even tried for up to 30 seconds. Tried holding it while powering it off, unplugging, and powering on. Nothing works. When I try to log back in with the original username/password of apc/apc, it won't take it.

What can I do? Is this defective and do I need to return the unit to the place of purchase? Is there another way I can reset the password? maybe some other utility I can run?

Hi there. The UID and PWD credentials supplied didn't seem to work. On closer inspection, serial number on the physical unit is 3B0949X30010, however from the web interface it states AB0949830010. Is there a difference? Thanks again.

For The Software Telling You The Serial Is Different Open A New Post or the ui it telling the serial of the network card, And how did u get the s/n from the web ui without the password !!!!!!!!

The APC software is giving me a different UPS Serial, on mine there is an "about" tab and it lets me go on it with out loging in, but if i try and change any settings or run a self test, i have to login and cant

Thanks for the offer - the unit is a BH500INET and the serial number is AB0549242437 Any help on this would be really appreciated as APC's support in Europe either don't know or can't be bothered to retrieve the fix outlined to RangerDave.

I took this up with APC's online chat this afternoon (from the UK site) as they didn't bother to reply to the support request on 11 April. The initial response is outlined in my previous post. When this didn't work, I contacted them again via chat and after 20 minutes of no response and finally a disconnect from them at 5pm UK time, I gave up.

It's not really the kind of support I expected from a company like APC (having specified and used APC products in data centers), and it really lets them down in terms of corporate image. If they only want to support corporate customers it would be more honest to say so up front.

Could we have an official response from APC about these ongoing flaws with the HS 500? Is there a revision model that we can be offered as an upgrade? Strangely this model appears now to have been removed from the UK APC site, with nothing equivalent to replace it. Allowing browser access using 1990's browsers only is ridiculous. I cannot get Safari, Firefox, Opera etc to work at all.
