bh500net APC Back-UPS HS 500 username and password problem

I logged into the unit via the web interface with the default username of "apc" and default password of "apc". Used IE of course since Firefox isn't supported.

I went and tried to change the username and password. I used a complicated password that had capital letters and an Exclaimation point "!" in it. And I change the username to "admin". I hit ok and it said are you sure, and I said "yes". Now I can't log in. It is like it scrambled my password. I'm 100% sure I know the password, and since the password box didn't obfuscate it, I know i didn't misstype it when I originally typed it in.

I tried popping the front cover off of the unit and doing a manual reset with a paperclip. I did that while the unit was turned on, with the unit turned off, and even with the unit unplugged. Tried it for 5 seconds like the manual says, even tried for up to 30 seconds. Tried holding it while powering it off, unplugging, and powering on. Nothing works. When I try to log back in with the original username/password of apc/apc, it won't take it.

What can I do? Is this defective and do I need to return the unit to the place of purchase? Is there another way I can reset the password? maybe some other utility I can run?

Hey jplf,

We really sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Try the following login credentials and see if that works fine.

User name: 2040508F902228
Password: 2040508F902228

If this does not work, I recommend you to reset the UPS to factory defaults and then try accessing the UPS. To reset the Back-UPS HS to factory default values, use the UPS Settings button. If the Back-UPS HS does not reset using the software, remove the Battery Cover and insert a small object (about 2 inches in length) into the hole located next to the telephone jack (refer the UPS user manual-Figure 12) for approximately 5 seconds. Note: The telephone jack is provided for factory testing only - do not connect anything to this jack).

I've found your post after I running in the same issue.... 😞
On today I've changed the password using the "." and "!" char and now there are no way to enter in web console.
I've also tried to reset to factory using the software button and hardware button but without any succces.

Can you send me the backdoor password or, if any, an alternative method to regain access to the web console ?
