Battery life problem.
I live in Samoa where obtaining specific brands of new batteries is a logistic nightmare.
Three years ago I replaced my Smart UPS 1500 internal battery with two lead acid 35 AH 12 V batteries. I used heavy dutey wires, solder for joins and used the original fuse between the two batteries. This worked well and extended the battery run time modestly to about 45 mins. Recently, a problem has developed where it states that I have 5 min of battery time only. Assuming that the batteries had died, I went out and got two new ones, this time 40 AH, and connected them. The problem has remained. The computer drains about 17-20%.
I have tried to recalibrate but the system cancels this before it is completed. I have tried pulling the power plug and it only lasts a few minutes with the percentage charge dropping instantly from 100% to about 1% the moment it goes onto battery.
Clearly, it has worked previously with the external batteries and something new has happened.
UPS Model Smart-UPS 1500
Firmware Revision 601.1.I
Manufacture Date 28 June 2001
Serial Number AS0126231073
