what will meter do when a data is full?

Hi all:

I got a problem asked by enduser that what will meter do when a value is full?

Like when kwh is reach its full value, will it restart from 0 or it will stop at full?

I'm using PM5350 in this case. but i wonder what all meter will do?

PM2000,PM5000,PM8000 and ION9000 is our main series of meter.

Thanks if any one has answer.

Hello @Ray_Chang_EPEC ,

This is a loaded question. There are many answered depending on the meter, and settings inside the meter. I do not know the PM5000 series but the PM8000 and ION9000 I can speak to.

For the PM8000 and ION9000, there are integrator modules that are used to calculate energy. Inside these modules is a setup register called rollover value. If you look at the ION Reference guide (https://www.se.com/ca/en/download/document/7EN02-0290/) you will see that this module will determine if/when a meter will rollover. The default value for most integrator modules is 10,000,000. The module itself can go to a much higher value however uses 32 bit floating point and the larger the number the less precise the number (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-precision_floating-point_format). 10,000,000 is an easy round number that will still give 1 kwh precision.

If the roll over value is not set, the maximum number that the meter could give is the maximum for the IEEE754 32-bit floating point number.

Regards,

Charles

Hi @Ray_Chang_EPEC

PM5000 series rollover energy = 9.223 x10^18 Wh
Rollover means the value that the KWH reach before resetting to zero.

Regards,

Ramasamy N

@Charles_Murison Thanks for answer.

I'm still looking for PM5000's.

Can you help find someone that maybe know about PM5000's answer?

Hello @Ramasamy_N ,

Can you confirm the behavior of the PM5000 series meters when energy values accumulate, does the meter ever roll over?

Regards,

Charles

Hello @Ray_Chang_EPEC

PM5350 does not support on board data log feature.

PM2130, PM2230 - supports on board data log the mode will be "circular" (first in first out) by default.

The PM533x, PM534x, PM55xx supports on board data log and user can configure the mode as "circular" (first in first out) or "Fill and hold" options.

Regards,

Ramasamy N

@Charles_Murison Thanks for your helping.

Hi @Ramasamy_N

Thanks for the answer. Now i understand,

One more is so when PM5350's kwh is full it will just stop there?

Cause our enduser is using a lot of value of kwh.

They would like to know what they should do when it''s close to full.

Manaully reset or?  What's your suggustion?

Many Thanks!
