how to sending total Kwh through calibration pulser module

Hello SE ION expert:

We have a application in BC Hydro using ION8650 sending KYZ pulse output to SCADA RTU device. Now we are facing an issue and need your support:  how to send total Kwh value through calibration pulser module?

Since the calibration pulser module's input register source should be kw, not kwh; but we only have total Kwh in the meter, don't have total Kw.

Is there a way to convert total Kwh to total Kw?

Thanks!

Leo

I discussed this design with SERGIO BERTANI and Anant Patel yesterday. They should be contacting you today.

some things are not clear to me.

it sounds like there are two ION8650 sending KYZ edges via a CalPulser module through digital outputs to two inputs of an external SCADA RTU input accumulator.

Each transition edge sent from the ION meter corresponds to a preset configured quantity of energy.

Energy (kWh) is the integrated power over a period of time. So to compute energy you can multiply the average power over a time interval by the duration...

Exactly what problem are you trying to solve? Do you want each meter to be aware of the other meter's accumulated energy? Are you using software over a communications channel?

Thanks Bojan, could you explain why?

Hi Dan,

I have two ION8650s: meter1 and meter2, each meter sending 5 minuites interval energy to the other meter through KYZ pulse. I am using calibration pulser module to achieve this, link each meter's kw as its input source. This part has already done.

The other part has a issue:

In meter 1, I am adding meter1's kwh (from meter1's power meter module) with meter2's kwh (received from meter 2's calibration pulser module KYZ pulse output), then I need to send this kwh tot to SCADA RTU device through KYZ pulse. But since calibration pulser module's input should be power, not energy. so not sure how to solve this.

1 kW load consumes the same energy in one hour as what 12kW load consumes in 5 minutes.

the quick summary as I understand it is:

-each 8650 will use a CAP module to pulse measured energy to be counted by the other meter (separate channels for del and rec)

-each meter will add the counted pulses of energy to their own measured energy and log with a DRE the 5 minute interval energy (separate channels for del and rec)

-the change in counted pulses each second corresponds to the power measured by the other 8650

-this power is added to each meter's own measured power and sent to the SCADA accumulator via pulses from another CAP module.

Hello Dan,

see my comments below:

-each 8650 will use a CAP module to pulse measured energy to be counted by the other meter (separate channels for del and rec)-------yes

-each meter will add the counted pulses of energy to their own measured energy and log with a DRE the 5 minute interval energy (separate channels for del and rec)------------yes

-the change in counted pulses each second corresponds to the power measured by the other 8650-----------the KYZ pulse corresponds to the energy measured by the other 8650, not power;

-this power is added to each meter's own measured power and sent to the SCADA accumulator via pulses from another CAP module.----------- the energy, not power is added to each meter's own energy, I am trying to convert this added energy to power, and sent to SCADA RTU from CAP module.

Two points to clarify:
1. the *change* in counted pulses each second corresponds to the power measured by the other 8650 (units are kWh/s). Yes, this is also the change in energy each second and equal to the average power over that second.
Assuming the counter module's Scale is configured to convert counted pulses to kWh (scale = kT/1000), the equation to convert pulses-per-second to power (kW) for every second of module operation is:
P [kW] = (counterValue - previousCounterValue) * 3600 [s/h]

2. this power is added to each meter's own measured power and sent to the SCADA accumulator via pulses from another CAlibration Pulser module (the CAP module input must be POWER in units of kW).
The energy is ALSO added to each meter's own energy (Integrator output) and logged in a Data REcorder.
