Hi there,
I am trying to change the default SMTP port of an ION8650 from the default (161) to a new port to enable emails via a customers SMTP server. I can not find how to achieve this in either ION Reference or the ION8650 manual.
SMTP is not a protocol that can have its port changed in the "Protocols" menu in IONsetup.
Attempting to add a custom port to the end of the SMTP server address per ION Reference does not allow for the change to save as the address can only be saved in the format aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd.
Can anyone advise how to change the SMTP port in an ION8650 meter?

Hi @CamboHeath
As the documentation team has already been notified, the typo will be corrected.
Since an optional port is not allowed for the ION8650, regardless of whether the IP is static or not, a possible workaround is to set up a mail relay that listens on port 25 (which is compatible with the ION8650) and forwards mail to your actual SMTP server on the desired port.

Hi @CamboHeath
The default SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server port number is 25. Port 161, is used by SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), which is used for network management and monitoring. I'm not sure why port 161 is mentioned for the SMTP server in the ION8650 user guide.
As mentioned per each Module's description in ION Reference:
The ION8650 is primarily designed for utility-grade metering and may have limited flexibility where configurations are standardized. Therefore optional port is not allowed for ION8650:

Please note that the document version shown is 03, the latest version is 06 (https://www.se.com/ca/en/download/document/7EN02-0306/) If you use online guide you can see that the Port and name have been corrected (https://product-help.schneider-electric.com/PowerLogic-ION8650/en-us/content/06-communications/ether...)
After talking with developer I confirmed that ION8650 Meter with V4.40.1 firmware does not accept domain names for SMTP server. I have sent a comment to the team that maintains the user guide documents.

Charles

Hi Charles,
Both links you sent through show the default SMTP port as 161. Noting that this is not correct and it should be 25 based on Mehran's comment.
Independent of domain name, if i have a Static IP for a SMTP server is there any way to change the default SMTP port? If not then the ION8650 will not be fit for purpose for this application.
Thankyou.
