Disturbance Direction Detection DDD

DDD is available on the ION8650, ION7650 and the new PM8000.

Disturbance Direction Detection (DDD): A Real-Time Power Quality Analysis Feature
Discover how the PowerLogic metering feature disturbance direction detection (DDD) can determine if a voltage disturbance occurred upstream or downstream of the meter, including utility side or facility side, to help pinpoint the source of the power quality problem and minimize downtime.

Hi Grant,

Yes, DDD indicators on the PSO one-line would be great.

I recommend using the new Labs area to suggest this idea so others in the community can vote on it. Marketing will use this area to help influence and prioritize their backlog for future releases of the product lines.

Best regards,

Andrew

This is an amazing feature and a big part of our selling the high end meters.

However - there is a hole in the reporting on this in that there are no default Power Quality Reports in PME which actually list this feature. The Power Quality Report only lists the disturbances and magnitudes. It is my understanding that the only way to get this information is in Vista/WebReach diagrams. Is this right?

Hi James,

While it is a Vista diagram, you might be interested in this post:

Yes, great for Vista/Diagrams! What about Power Quality Reports? It's exposed nowhere that I know of in the Power Quality Report tables which list the disturbance statistics. we have discussed this before.

Hi James - I am sharing this post with Michel Grando and Mathew Losey who are working on our power quality solution for industry now.

Correct re: reports - we have the TVD that Dana Davidson posted which displays DDD info on a single line.  Also , we recently posted a Labs video on smart notifications which included an insight whether utility side disturbances are increasing in a 30 day window.  Not getting much feedback so far on that video, so we would love the Azzo perspective when convenient!

Cheers Tom

Hi James - I just chatted with Michel/Mathew.  There is a Power Quality Analysis report in the forthcoming PQ module with this info.

Cheers

Tom

That's great! Hopefully it will be a module we can also add to non-Industry edition PMEs as well.

Anyone able to point me to technical detail of how our implementation of DDD works?  Thanks!

Just interested because of my background in this area.  I suspect our solution applies only where there is no local generation present.

Hi Graham,

I would assume that the metering team would be able to provide this detail, however as mention by Dana above there is a TVD that shows our implementation and representation of DDD within PME:

Thanks Matt.  Impressive STN by Dana Davidson!  I will have a read and also look at the latest ION Reference Guide.

James:

Greetings from the Midwest (Here at Votaw). I agree we have been beating this DDD drum for what 3-4 years now? We have known about Tom's TVD's for about a year now (in the one line diagram), cannot vouch for the Power Quality Report function. Votaw has always wanted Schneider to implement in software out of the box. I do hear that PME 9.0 will support DDD natively out of the shoot (I'm hoping it is and not just rumor).

But I have communicated this to Matthew Curry, Dan Wall, Mark Walters, Rham and anyone in the group, so it appears they are finally migrating that way (rumor has it). It's a great tool that we exploit on the Power side of the business, in building management systems? I cannot say.

If anyone can exploit that you surely can, I'm hopeful with others pushing this we can get this in PME 9.0.

Also, is there a way to incorporate DDD into PSO+AR?  or is it tied to PME diagrams only?

Regards

Grant

PME diagrams only.

Not currently possible in PSO one-lines.

Hi,

Does anyone know from which firmware version DDD is available and operational on the ION7650's?

I have a customer with a few ION7650's but can only go below firmware v400, but I cannot find when DDD was available from.

Regards

Mark

Please note that V37x firmware is the -04 and before hardware equivalent to some of the V4xx firmware for hardware version -05. As for the direct question I am not 100% sure when this was added.

Charles

From the FAQ's https://www.se.com/ca/en/faqs/FA328667/

I see that DDD was added in V350 in Dec 2007.
