Installing IT Optimize

Download the IT Optimize installation zip file from a location provided by your local technical support team. There are installers for both Linux 64-bit and Windows 64-bit. The DCO or IT Advisor server must have IT Optimize licenses installed. ITO licenses are also rack based, so you need the same amount of ITO licenses as the installed ITA base license. IT Optimize is compatible with DCO 8.x and all versions of IT Advisor 9.x. Installing ITO on Windows IT Optimize Windows Server minimum requirements 2 CPUs 4GB RAM A minimum of 20GB of free disk space on the disk where ITO will be installed Windows 2012, 2012 R2, 2016 and 2019 Windows 2008 and 2008 R2 should still work but are no longer tested and qualified. Instructions Download the IT Optimize installer zip file for windows and place it in a temporary folder on the windows IT Optimize server. Open the folder in which the downloaded zip file was placed and extract the contents of the StruxureWareItOptimizeWithServerAccess-setup-7.5.x.windows.x64.zip file to a temporary folder. Change to the folder to which the zip file was extracted. The folder for ITO 7.5.x will contain the following files. The StruxureWareItOptimize-setup.windows.x64.exe is the installer file which will be executed. DO NOT run any of the other “bat” or “exe” files in this folder as it may lead to unexpected results. ITO_Windows_1_360011650218.png Double-click the StruxureWareItOptimize-setup.windows.x64.exe file and follow the instructions in the wizard to complete installation: Choose the language and click OK. ITO_Windows_2_360011650218.png Click Next > to continue. ITO_Windows_3_360011650218.png Set the installation directory and default port used by DCO or IT Advisor to access the IT Optimize server. Default installation folder is C:\Program Files\Schneider-Electric\ITOptimize Default IT Optimize port is 8090. (This port may need to be opened in Windows firewall to allow connections from DCO or ITA.) ITO_Windows_4_360011650218.png Click Next > to continue. If the IT Optimize server has less than 20GB of free disk space on the target installation directory, then a warning will appear. ITO_Windows_5_360011650218.png Enter the credentials for the Windows user account which will run the IT Optimize service. This user account must be a valid local or domain based Windows user with local administrator rights and the account must belong to the Logon as a Service role. To see how to enable the user to "logon as a service": http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc794944(v=ws.10).aspx) ITO_Windows_6_360011650218.png If a domain-based user account is specified in the above window, the installer will pop-up a window stating it would like to test the user accounts security before proceeding. Follow those directions to complete the test which confirms the domain-based user account has the Logon as a Service privilege. Click Next > to continue. Accept the default port (3306) used by the IT Optimize service to connect to its local database which is also installed. ITO_Windows_7_360011650218.png Click Next > ITO_Windows_8_360011650218.png Click Next > to begin the installation. Wait for the installation to complete. The installation may take several minutes. The IT Optimize installer will also install Intel’s Data Center Manager (DCM) and Virtual KVM software on the ITO server. Their installers are automatically started by the ITO installer. There is no need to try to install either of them yourself. When completed, the popup window will ask whether to start ITO services now. Leave this item checked and click “Finish” to complete installation. ITO_Windows_9_360011650218.png The “Programs and Features” view in Control Panel should now have the following three entries (the versions may differ depending on the IT Optimize release). ITO_Windows_10_360011650218.png Verify the installation and connectivity. To confirm the IT Optimize services are running, open a browser on the IT Optimize server and try to browse to https://localhost:8090 If the IT Optimize services are running, the following logon window should appear. You can logon using apc/apc credentials. ITO_Windows_11_360011650218.png To access the above logon from a system external to the IT Optimize server, you may need to add port 8090 as an allowed incoming TCP port in windows firewall. This port is used by DCO and/or IT Advisor for IT Optimize integrations. Installing ITO on Linux IT Optimize Linux minimum server requirements 2 CPUs 4GB RAM A minimum of 20GB of free disk space on the disk where ITO will be installed CentOS 7.x and RedHat 7.x are supported. Most other Linux OS’s will work but the below prerequisites and firewall commands may change. Prerequisite Linux modules lsb unzip net-tools # yum install lsb unzip net-tools Instructions Download the IT Optimize installer tar.gz file for Linux and place it in a temporary folder on the IT Optimize server, like /var/tmp. Log on to the ITO server. Change to the folder where the downloaded tar.gz file was placed and extract the contents of StruxureWareItOptimizeWithServerAccess-setup-7.5.x.linux.x64.tar.gz. DO NOT run any of the “.sh” files in this folder as it may lead to unexpected results. # tar xvzf StruxureWareItOptimizeWithServerAccess-setup-7.5.x.linux.x64.tar.gz # ls -lt total 1902480 -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 970393722 Apr 24 11:37 StruxureWareItOptimizeWithServerAccess-setup-7.5.x.linux.x64.tar.gz -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root      6501 Nov 27 18:56 intel_vGateway_install64.sh -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root      7881 Nov 27 18:56 intel_install64.sh -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root       563 Oct 16  2018 install_dcm.sh -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root       325 Oct 16  2018 install_vGateway.sh -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 181723501 Oct 16  2018 Intel(R)_Virtual_Gateway64_1_4.tar.gz -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 301674987 Oct 16  2018 StruxureWareItOptimize-setup.linux.x64.bin -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 172810387 Oct 16  2018 Intel(R)_Data_Center_Manager64_upgrade_4_2.tar.gz -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 149356963 Oct 16  2018 Intel(R)_Data_Center_Manager64_upgrade_4_1.tar.gz -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 172138128 Oct 16  2018 Intel(R)_Data_Center_Manager64_4_2.tar.gz Change the permissions on the ITO installer and shell files to be executable. If this step is skipped the Intel DCM products will not be installed. Go to the temp folder in which the ITO installer zip was extracted. # chmod 755 *.bin *.sh Run the IT Optimize installer and answer the installer questions as needed. # ./StruxureWareItOptimize-setup.linux.x64.bin Once completed, it may be necessary to open port 8090 on the ITO server if the Linux firewall is active. To verify whether the firewall is running, run the command firewall-cmd –state to see if it returns running. # firewall-cmd --state running Verify which firewall zone is active # firewall-cmd  --get-active-zones public      interfaces: ens192 Add port 8090 to the running and permanent firewall rules. Substitute the proper "active" firewall zone if "public" is not correct. Also substitute "8090" with the customized port id if this port number was changed during ITO installation. # firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=8090/tcp # firewall-cmd --zone=public --permanent --add-port=8090/tcp  You should be able to access to the ITO server by browsing to https://<ITO-Server-IP>:8090/

Configuring IT Optimize server integration

Configure user credentials to allow EcoStruxure IT Advisor on-premise to communicate with the IT Optimize server and receive device data and alarms. Set up the server connection in IT Advisor. Select System Setup > External System Configuration. Click Add server, and select IT Optimize server as the server type. Type the IT Optimize server information, host name and IP address. Click Test to test the connection. You can integrate with multiple IT Optimize servers. The Polling interval option is a setting relevant for data on the IT Optimize server only. It defines how often the IT Optimize server requests CPU utilization data from the devices. There is no setting defining how often IT Advisor requests data from the IT Optimize server. These are predefined: power and CPU utilization data every 10 seconds; new or changes to devices every 60 seconds. ITA_external_system_ITO_cascade_360011539637.png Workaround for ITO failed discovery of the IT Advisor server WARNING! This operation will reduce security on the Data Center Operation server. On the Data Center Operation server, to work around the security restrictions preventing ITO discovery: Log on to the server with an SSH client. For example, use PuTTY. You can download it from here. Type the command  sudo sed -i -e "s/^#%sudo/%sudo/g" /etc/sudoers.d/itodiscovery  and click Enter. If you reinstall or upgrade the server, you must perform the above procedure again.

Configuring IT asset discovery

Configure IT asset discovery to allow scanning of the external system's network subnets to continuously monitor changes in the power and CPU utilization of the running servers. These values will be available in IT Advisor. In Planning > Device Association, right-click an IT Optimize server in the Unassociated Devices pane and select Configure Discovery, or double-click a server in the ITO Discoveries view (in 7.3.5, Server Discoveries view). Follow the steps in the wizard to configure the subnets one by one. Specify the network range properties: Type a subnet name and the IP range. Specify the protocols and credentials for accessing the data on the servers. Recommended protocols: WMI for discovery of Windows systems VMware for discovery of ESXi/VMware Guests SNMP for discovery of blade chassis configurations, Linux and Unix systems SSH for discovery of Linux IPMI Choose whether to run a discovery immediately or schedule a discovery either at a specified date and time or repeatedly at a specified interval. ITO_discoveritassets_1_360011776177.png You can also access the discovery configuration by clicking Discoveries: 0 in the status bar. If accessed from here rather than right-clicking a server, you must specify which server to configure the subnets as the first step. You can use the reported power and CPU utilization values to find and manage underutilized servers. WMI Recommended protocol for discovery of Windows systems Requires Windows account credentials with local administrator rights on all discovered windows servers. In multi-domain environments, the account will also require the "Distributed COM Users" group. Specification of a domain-based user is optional but recommended to simplify deployment. SNMP Recommended protocol for discovery of Blade Chassis configurations. SNMP is also used to poll Linux and Unix systems. SNMP V1 and V2 are supported. SNMP V3 is supported from version 7.3.6. Discovery requires a read-only SNMP community name, typically public. VMware ESX/ESXi Recommended protocol for discovery of VMware ESX servers and their guests Uses VMware's vSphere APIs to discover ESX hosts. The user account can be configured on the ESX host using VMware's Infrastructure or vSphere client. The account must be local to the ESX server and it must at least have the "read-only" permission. The account does not require shell access to the ESX server. Discovery of VMware Servers through Virtual Center is currently not supported. If "Discover Guests" is selected, any VMware guests on the ESX server will also be discovered and polled. SSH Recommended protocol for discovery of Linux and Unix servers Supports discovery of Linux and Unix systems using SSH V2 protocol. SSH V1 is not supported. Discovery of Linux servers requires "root-like" access to several commands, so use of the "root" account or a non-root user with "root-like" access is recommended. IT Optimize also supports the use of "sudo" to allow root-access to the specific commands. Discovery of Solaris, HPUX, and AIX is also supported if you deploy a script called "viriditylisthw". Root access is not required on Solaris and AIX to run the script, but it is required on HPUX. More... Polling is completed on all Linux and Unix servers using SNMP with a read-only community string. This means the SNMP protocol must be enabled for Linux/Unix client discoveries. IPMI Required for discovery of servers to enable power capping. (Communication through UDP port 623. For further information, see the Intel documentation).

Configuring HPUX, Solaris, and AIX discovery

HP-UX, Solaris, and AIX discovery requires using a script. The current implementation of the SSH interface is not familiar with those operating systems out of box. On the IT Optimize server, open the IT Optimize installation folder. Default location:  c:\program files\SchneiderElectric\ITOptimize . Open the  bin/scripts  sub-folder. In the folder, you see a set of scripts, one for each Unix type (see screenshot). Copy the  viriditylisthw.HP-UX  script to the  /usr/local/bin  folder on your target HP-UX client(s). Rename the script once it has been placed in the  /usr/local/bin  folder to  viriditylisthw , removing the .HP-UX extension. Change permissions on the script to allow execution on the Unix host, i.e.  chmod 755 viriditylisthw . Re-run the SSH discovery of the host(s). The SSH discovery interface will look for that script in  /usr/local/bin  and will execute it if found. Note: This script is ONLY used for discovery, not polling. The  viriditylisthw  script is a shell script and nothing is hidden. Run the script from the command line. You should see server information written to the screen in an xml-like format. The script looks for the HP-UX diagnostic utilities as well. If these tools are not present, some information might not be returned.
