I have installed vMA 5 on an ESXi 5 host. I installed PCNS 3 with the patch that replaced the install_en.sh and added the uninstall.
To test to make sure the machine will shut down. I use the vMA console and go to:
/opt/APC/PowerChute/group1/bin/ and run sudo ./shutdown.pl
I get:
Can't load '/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/libvmatargetlib_perl.so' for module vmatargetlib_perl: libtypes.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory at /usr/lib/perl5/5.10.0/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/DynaLoader.pm line 203.
at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/VMware/VmaTargetLib.pm line 10.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/VMware/VIFPLib.pm line 9.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/VMware/VIFPLib.pm line 9.
Compilation failed in require at ./shutdownhost.pl line 17.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at ./shutdownhost.pl line 17.
My next problem is I can't get to the web ui of the host, which I believe is a firewall issue and will tackle that once I know the PCNS is working.
Thanks for any help!
-Steve

how to do this is in the knowledge base. search for FA159765 in http://www.apc.com/site/support/index.cfm/faq/ and refer to the section titled: How to verify communication ports are open in the vMA and how to add host servers to the server list

To verify PCNS is running run the command
sudo /etc/init.d/PowerChute status
If PCNS is running the system will return “PowerChute is running…”
If it is not running you can start it by typing
sudo /etc/init.d/PowerChute start
To test shutdown
1. CD to /opt/APC/PowerChute/group1 dir
2. run sudo bin/shutdown

Thanks for that! I got "PowerChute is running..."
Then I used the shutdown command you gave and it shutdown the host!
When I turned the host back on, I went to the logs of one of the VMs (Server 2008). It says that the previous shutdown was unexpected. Shouldn't the host shutdown the VMs first?

OK, thanks again to "i picKed a winna" and this link:
Linkie
I clicked over to this link: Linkie
And configured my automatic shutdown from there...
On my 2 Windows VMs, I altered the poweroff-vm-default.bat file and added "shutdown /s /f" to the end of the file and saved. Then when I did the "bin/shutdown" command it gracefully shutdown the VMs...
Still working on the web ui...

My next issue is with the web ui for the vm host. I disabled the firewall, and got a "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".
I added the attached apc.xml file to the /etc/vmware/firewall folder. Then I refreshed by using "esxcli network firewall refresh". When I go the security profile screen of the vm host using the vsphere client, I can see the APC id listed and it is checked. I tried the web ui again but got the same result.
the apc.xml file is:
