AP9617 / AP9630 Compatibility

Aside from the obvious physical silk screened panel differences (locating slots, etc.) are the AP9617 and AP9630 swappable?  Has anyone tried swapping them?

I've replaced a number of AP961x with AP9631's in Smart-UPS, Matrix-UPS, and Symmetra RM systems. I think that the AP9630/AP9631 will work in any platform that currently has an AP961x installed, as long as there is a version of the correct app firmware available for the newer card. I'm not familiar with models outside the 3 product lines I listed above.

The reverse is probably not true - there may be products that require the AP9630/AP9631 and won't work with the older AP961x cards.

Good to hear!  I've got an old SU2200, 1999 vintage, with an AP9617 and a newly freed-up AP9630 that I'll stick in there and give it a whirl.  I like the UI on the the newer cards/firmware as well.

Hi Joe,

What Terry mentioned is right, especially for Smart-UPS. The older NMC1 code was ported from that to NMC2 so whatever worked with NMC1 would work with NMC2. The reverse wouldn't be true. Some apps were not ported, like for the 3 phase Silcon UPS that was discontinued before NMC2. The reverse wouldn't necessarily be true of using the older cards with newer UPS models only supported by NMC2 code. You can hot swap the cards too when removing and installing.
