I’ve noticed that the weather information in the app is always different to other sources of weather such as the BBC and Met Office. Currently, the app shows the temperature in my location as -4 degrees. However, the BBC, Met Office and local weather station are displaying the temperature as 1 degree.

Yes, I saw that - but it doesn't actually say where the data comes from...
But in any case, does Wiser make any use of it (other than displaying it in the app) ❓

Wiser uses the weather information for the smart modes and insight+.

The API doesn't return any weather related data - implying it's making no use of it.
Mine is certainly not making use of it for 'smart modes' (because it's been firewalled from the Internet for two months).

In your case then you will not get any potential benefits from the smart modes or insights. If I look on my Wiser Home app I can see the weather is used for Eco mode, Comfort Mode, Heating Prediction and How the weather affects the heating. The weather is also displayed on the Heat Reports.

Comfort Mode is certainly doing its thing (all set for 09:00 in their schedules):-
Since it is a non-modulating Oil boiler, weather compensation wouldn't be appropriate anyway.

Hi Phil
Schneider support have said that.......
"Eco Mode does have weather compensation rolled into it, but it is not the main function of Eco Mode.
The primary function of Eco Mode is turn the boiler off early, and allow thermal inertia to carry the system up to the scheduled set-point. For example, if a room is climbing to 20c, the boiler may shut off at 18c and then the remaining heat in the system will carry it up to set-point. These small periods of time where the boiler switches off will gradually collate over time and generate energy expenditure savings."
They have sent more detailed information regarding ECO mode and Away mode if anyone is interested.

Interestingly, I see my system doing that, despite Eco Mode being off!
Depending on the room in question, it really doesn't work very well. (My Oil Boiler and Pump run from the same feed from the motorised valve. So if Wiser turns off the zone valve, the boiler and pump both stop. Relying on the residual heat from the tiny radiator in the downstairs loo, is never going to achieve much - I observed it trying (and failing) to do this, earlier today).

Always interested - knowledge is power 😀
