Why does my ION Setup run so slow now?
I've recently been getting reports of the newest versions of ION Setup having some performance issues to the point where its taking minutes sometimes just to click around and have information load up on the screen. I've managed to track the issue down to the fact that ION Setup is now splitting files between non-writeable location (typically C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\ION Setup) and a user writeable location (ex. C:\ProgramData\Schneider Electric). However, the latest corporate anti-virus software now come with process monitoring file access which examine every file access (which ION Setup does alot of) and unless the AV settings are properly configured, this has a huge impact on performance.
Rebooting the PC into Windows Safe Mode and running ION Setup to see if performance returns to normal (thus not having the anti-virus software load) is an indication of this issue being present. An easy fix is to have IT to configure the exclusion of both the C:\Program FIles and %APPDATA% plus all their sub-folders (or specifically do the ION Setup ones if they are not comfortable doing that).
