Using the Modbus Tester User Interface within ION Setup
ION Setup V3.0 now has a built-in Modbus Tester interface allowing reading/writing of a device's Modbus registers using the standard Modbus RTU commands.
Commands presently supported are:
Read Input Status (Function code 0x02)
Read Holding Registers (Function code 0x03)
Read Input Registers (Function code 0x04)
Preset Single Register (Function code 0x06)
Preset Multiple Registers (Function code 0x10)
Read General Reference (Function code 0x14)
Read Scattered Registers (Function code 0x64)
Read Device Identification (Function code 0x2B)
Most read functions will display register values only as 16-bit unsigned integers values presently.
To access the tester:
Highlight a device that communicates using Modbus RTU protocol in the network viewer.
Either select from the menu, Tools -> Diagnostics or click on the stethoscope icon on the toolbar.
Click on the Troubleshooting tab and if the device uses Modbus protocol, the first available option should be "Modbus Tester Interface".
Click on the Open button, then select from the droplist the function code you want to perform. Fill out any of the required information and click on the Send button.
