Using ION Setup to collect ION logged data for SPM/ION EEM

In instances where automated (either direct or via modem) communication channels between the SPM server and the remote device isn't available, ION Setup can be used on a laptop by field personnel to retreive logged data to be imported into the SPM database.

Using customized ION Setup Assistants, users can easily collect the data and send the files to the SPM server which is configured to import the XML data files into the SQL database.

Contact the Schneider Services group for exact details on configuration of the ETL service and myself for the specialized ION Setup assistants.

Here is the procedure on how to incorporate SPM data collection into an existing Setup Assistant:

  • While viewing a device in ION Setup, exit the setup assistant or any data display and go to the Network Viewer.  Right click on the device you wish add views and bring up the Device Properties.  Click on the Display tab and make note of the Template Type and the highlighted Template Options.

  • Now using Windows Explorer, go to the ION Setup folder when it was installed (usually C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\ION Setup) and then into the TABLES sub-folder.  You will now see a large list of folders, one of which should match the Template Type that was listed for your device and then inside that folder you'll see other folders (which will match the list of Template Options) and then go into the highlighted Template option folder.

  • Now using Notepad, go open the QUICKION.CFG located in the folder and near the top of the file you’ll see something along the lines of:

[SetupInfo]

SetupScreens=1

Screen1=Setup Assistant

[Setup Assistant]

AssistantText=Welcome to the Setup Assistant! The following dialogs guide you through device setup. Select from the left which setup you wish to perform or press the Next button to cycle through all of the different setups.

AssistantCount=26

Assistant1=Template

Assistant2=Basic Setup

...

  • Increase the number to the right of the AssistantCount line (ex. Above you would change AssistantCount=27) and go to the last line of that section where you would insert a new entry similar to the following:

Assistant27=Data Collection

  • Now proceed to the bottom of the file and insert the following lines at the bottom of the file (the following entries work for ION75xx/76xx and may require some slight modifications for other ION devices):

[Data Collection]

TabCount=1

Tab1=Data Collection

Tab1Type=10

Tab1Text=Allows you to collect recorder information to transfer to an ION Enterprise system.

Tab1Buttons=1

Tab1Button1Label=Collect

Tab1Button1=0,16

Tab1DefaultFileName=0x1345

Tab1Logs=3

Tab1Log1=Events,1,0x93

Tab1Log2=All Data Recorders,1,0x84

Tab1Log3=Waveforms,1,0x85

  • Save the file and bring up the Setup Assistant again and it should now have a new listed option for Data Collection which you’ll be able to download Events, Data Recorders and/or Waveforms into a single XML file.

Hi Jairo,

     You should speak to Tom Stevenson (tom.stevenson@ca.schneider-election.com) about the ETL for the SPM.  He'll can point you to an available developer that can help you.

So I'm assuming this is an ETL routine, and also only applies to tabular data, and not PQ waveform data?

The actual waveform captures can be stored using a base64 encoded XML format into the file which ETL can import data (similar to how MeterM@il data can be imported into the SPM database).

The Custom setup assistant provides options which allow the user to upload Events, Waveforms and Data Recorder logs into an ION Enterprise XML format (which requires ETL to be setup on the SPM side to import the file in).

I've posted in the original post instructions on how to incorporate the ability to generate XML files for SPM data collection.  You'll still need to configure ETL to setup SPM to allow the importing of the data files into the database.

Kyle/Tom, can you post the ETL configuration required to import this into SPM? Thanks.

Hi All,

Are these documents available? I need to shift data from one DB to another (PME to PME)

Thanks

Thanks Brad,

I've had a look through this and also trying different options with the ETL tool. I can only export my PME data into an HTML file (can't seem to get it in csv) and see how to load an HTML file into my new database. I've tried manually altering the html file into csv but ETL doesn't seem to like this.

You should be able to export from one PME system in csv via the ETL then import that csv via the ETL into the other PME. Perhaps or Kyle can provide more specific documentation around this.

Hi Alister - I will get in touch with you shortly and go through the PME to PME scenario.  You can go from one PME to another directly.  I'll help you with CSV too, if that's still needed.

really nice,

when done i will test the option for the ion 8000 family.

this is most used by the brazillian utilities.

there is a way to custom the xml schema generated by the ION SETUP?

best regards,

The latest ION Setup on Box already has the Data Collection feature available for the ION8650 models but the other models (8300/8400/8500/8600/8800) will still need the custom assistant changes.  There is no way to customize the XML schema as it is designed to import the information in via ETL which expects the schema in the expected format.  You should be able to copy the changes from the 8650 setup assistant to the others however.
